Covid

Did you feel crap after either the first or second covid vaccine? (MNHQ please don't move this thread!)

I did post in the Covid section but only had one reply.
I figured there will be much more NHS and other workers in chat that would have had the vaccination.

Plenty of my colleagues have had the first vaccination, only two so far have had the second and both said it wiped them out the second time. Fever, chills etc.

Someone replied on the thread I posted in the covid section to say she felt like that on the first but fine on the second.

My first is on Friday, I just wondered how others fared?

(The flu vaccine made me feel shite for a week. Like walking through mud all day.)

@SugarbabyMilly

There is someone on a Facebook thread about vaccines saying loads of older people have died from it. And that it hasn’t had all the testing that it was supposed to. Is there any way to refute this? If enough people don’t have it then the programme won’t work and we’ll have years of quarantine.

God, these people really do test my patience. If I see something like this on FB and have an idle moment I might post a link to a fact checking site (because if it's on FB it's usually arrived there from some other route with no way of verifying it), but usually I just sigh and move on...

*@Sparklingbrook* Groundhog Day? Have there been loads of threads in chat asking about side effects? I haven't seen any. But I do spend more time in AIBU then chat. And as I said in my OP, I tried the coronavirus forum first!

I have most topics hidden, but there was a long running thread yesterday about vaccine side effects-would have to check which topic it was posted under.

It's good to have all the CV threads in the CV topic because if people want to they can hide the whole topic. But when threads pop up in Chat and AIBU they still have to see them when they are trying to avoid if that makes sense.

The using of Chat/AIBU 'for traffic' just seems to be the thing at the moment.

I had the AstraZeneca one first thing yesterday, and not even the merest hint of a side effect - not even a sore arm.

It might be that you didn't get many replies as there is already a long thread on side effects, maybe everyone who has has the vaccine is over on that one.

I've been working at the East London Vaccination Centre at Westfield in Stratford. Got the AstraZeneca vaccine on Monday. I had a sore arm yesterday that went away with an Ibuprofen..no other problems.

Had pfizer first jab in mid december when it first came out. Felt fine in terms of feeling ill/ tired flu etc. I did feel like I was having severe anxiety though - fast heartbeat and headaches. Did have a very dead arm for 3 days.

What was weird was what happened around day 5-7. I woke up with a completely water logged puffy face - as if I had gone to sleep crying my eyes out. My colleagues said I looked like I had been punched. Took over a week to go down and still have flair ups around the eyes occasionally - today was a bad day in one of my eyes - one month later.

I also had the jab site reinflame at about 2 weeks. Went all red rash and itchy which spread to my other arm, stomach, legs, back. It kept coming and going for a week starting with the site and quickly spreading to the rest of my body.

I researched about this and its apparently quite common for vaccines adminstered in muscles to have a delayed reaction like this as they are leached into the body.

I think I may be slightly allergic to it. One of the compounds (PEG) in the pfizer is apparently also found in cosmetics and other medicines - which a lot of ppl already have antibodies for. So reading about it I think thats what it was.

I was in two minds about the second vaccine but then it was cancelled and I thought that is fate. I wont be getting it now.

Dont regret getting the first though. It wasnt too bad and I am sure my weird puffy eye will settle down eventually.

There seems to be a clear pattern of older people not reacting much (presumably due to a less active immune system) and younger people having a rough time for 24-48 hours.

I am 30 so that makes sense.

I have just been doing more research and I was on twice daily medication for 3 months which were PEG heavy around 2 years ago.

Sounds likely you had an allergic reaction of some sort, yes. I hope it settles down for you soon. Flowers

Most of my colleagues have had their first jab ( not NHS staff ) none of them knowingly have had COVID in the past. Worst effect for most of them was headaches, sore arm feeling a bit off, one colleague who is CEV did have a bad reaction and had to be hospitalised for a day, her GP had warned her she might react (due to one of her medical conditions it’s not a straightforward allergy ) but that on balance she should have the vaccine as she could be extremely unwell if she caught COVID. The reaction settled down after a couple of days. She now has a big decision to make about getting the 2nd jab. I’m getting my first jab on Saturday I have no worries

I've had a sore arm for 3 days so far. I'm pretty sure I haven't had covid.

100 of my colleagues have had it. None had any symptoms other than sore arm, feeling a bit unwell, a few had a temperature.

NHS Trust - we were told reactions seem to be worse in younger people. Older people are not experiencingcside effects so much.

I had the jab. But started my period the day after.
So I was feeling a bit crap. But if I hadn't had the jab no worse than usual. I was taking paracetamol regularly as I normally do when I start my period.
Apart from this. My arm was a bit sore. And I was a bit tired for about 5 days. Nothing else.
Not sure how I would have felt if I hadn't started my period, but I feel pretty crap for the first 2 days of my period normally anyway.

NHS worker here, only came out of isolation on Sunday after testing positive for covid. Had first vaccine yesterday and I’ve woken up today feeling exactly the same as I did when I first started feeling ill with what turned out to be covid. Very achy, headache, fever and feeling generally shit. I know it’s not COVID before anyone thinks that is what I’m suggesting, but I don’t feel great. Hoping it won’t last long.

You’re not meant to get the vaccine for a month after testing positive.

I searched for a thread like this to see how long this will last. I had my 1st Pfizer yesterday afternoon, since this morning temp up (to 38.5) and chills, aches, took paracetamol and felt better. Working from home today thank goodness as it returned when paracetamol wore off, managed work okay though and now I am going to bed for a sleep after 2 more paracetamol.

I had covid in March/April including hospital stay, this feels like the start of covid did but without the brain fog, the runs or the breathing problems. It's just like a bit of a chill, bit tired. Nothing major just a temperature really and paracetamol works!

I am happy to have a reaction actually as I feel it means my immune system is working properly Smile

I have a long busy day at work tomorrow so I am hoping this is away by then!

Good luck all!

Had first dose of AstraZeneca yesterday and was really unwell last night. Cant remember the last time I had such a bad fever - teeth chattering, shaking all over, aches everywhere. Took wearing 3 layers, a hot water bottle, a hot toddy and an hour in bed, plus paracetamol before I could get warm. No fever today but still a bit achey and feel wiped out. And arm hurts too!

I know a few people who had no side effects at all.

He had chills and high fever ( over 39 degrees) extremely achey etc but felt better the next day.
It’s still better than getting covid.
