For the last 5 years Ds2 has been a Special Constable with the Met, Last weekend they went out in order to arrest a man who had broken his non molestation order (taken out by his ex-partner)
As they went to detain him he laughed and said "you shouldn't touch me I have covid"
Yes all three police who were in attendance have tested positive now, and he only gets a fine for breaking the non-mol order!

I would see prison officers as priority along with carers, nhs and well above supermarket workers. Covid is still ripping through prisons.

and long Covid affects many younger people who may not be seen as at risk - we should be kept safe.

Even with the vaccination, the risks of Long covid are still unknown/not reported after all you can still get the virus.

If the attending officers had been vaccinated, but still not used basic protection they could have still got the virus, just milder.

I am astonished that police officers haven't been prioritised for the vaccine. Regardless of whether someone had covid or not, if a police presence is needed then it's needed, if close contact is needed to detain someone it's needed and these officers are at risk! Shocking.

Hope your son recovers soon OP Thanks

What protection did they have and what precautions did they take to avoid getting infected?

By the nature of their job, the police cannot socially distance all the time. Else how would they be able to apprehend and arrest a danger to society like this member of the public? Not everyone the police must deal with wear masks - beyond that, some are more than happy to spit on police officers or cough at them. Masks don’t provide immunity, so there’s nothing the police can do to completely avoid getting infected - aside from cease working if that’s what you’d prefer

Many police officers where I live wear masks, and even face shields.
