For the last 5 years Ds2 has been a Special Constable with the Met, Last weekend they went out in order to arrest a man who had broken his non molestation order (taken out by his ex-partner)
As they went to detain him he laughed and said "you shouldn't touch me I have covid"
Yes all three police who were in attendance have tested positive now, and he only gets a fine for breaking the non-mol order!
And

OP posts:

@StatisticalSense

And yet teachers still think they should be prioritised over police for the vaccine.

I have seen many many posts and online petitions saying teachers should be vaccinated in line with nhs workers and care workers hence above the police

Of course it's not every teachers opinion but it's plenty of teachers" opinion and to eye roll about it isn't correct

Personally I think both groups, and prison staff and other key workers should come after the over 50s and before the rest of the population, if not slightly higher

Yes. I'm astounded at how shit some people are, and am immensely grateful to the police who deal with them - even at risk to their own wellbeing during a pandemic.

Glad they look set to be in the top tier of occupational priority for vaccine, ebbed though that comes too late for your DS

I hope it proves to be a mild case

My DH is in this line of work and most people I've spoken to aren't aware the police aren't prioritised.

How awful! I feel your anger. My DH works in gas and electricity and had gone to several houses where people have booked him to do non emergency work, and then they cough 20 mins into him being there and say 'oh I am awaiting a test result. But it's probably not covid'. A few people have had arguments with him because he wears a mask! Some people are so self centred

I don't know any teachers who think this?! Why even mention teachers statistical.

Sorry OP that is awful. It should be a hate crime & in all honesty if one of them gets really ill he needs to be charged with knowingly infecting someone which could potentially lead to serious health problems.

Virtually every post I have seen on vaccination has somebody saying teachers ought to be top priority. Right from when the list first came out
The poster was just pointing out the balance of that profession compared to others

So sorry for your son and his colleagues OP, hope they will be OK. So grateful for all the emergency services who put themselves at risk every day.

Sorry this happened to your ds. The man should be sanctioned heavily

What a nasty post. Both jobs are at risk and should be prioritised along with other exposed professions like they are doing in France after age 50+. No need to sow divisions that don't exist

Statisticalsense has now managed to get her objectional statement repeated multiple times while posters refute it, sometimes in bold.
Every time it's repeated, it becomes more memorable to those reading it.

Op, I'm sorry about your son. One of our clients is a police officer and has been punched in the face, kicked, spat at and generally abused. Sadly, I don't have to worry about confidentiality in posting that, it's so commonplace Sad
Disgusting how some members of the public behave.
I hope he and his colleagues recover quickly.

I’m a teacher and I don’t know anyone who thinks this. We think we should all get it. And certainly over other groups like NHS admin who have been at home since last March.

@StatisticalSense I’m a teacher and I don’t think this.

Instead of ‘and yet teachers think’, maybe try ‘and yet some people think’. I believe that there are quite a lot of people asking for this who aren’t necessarily teachers.

OP I’m so sorry for your DS, I hope he recovers well. I absolutely think that police should be receiving the vaccine as soon as possible.

Completely agree @peak2021.

My sister is a teacher and she doesn’t think she should be vaccinated before anyone.
IMO the police haven’t had the protection they’ve needed for a long time especially for the money they get.
The abuse I’ve read about that police and shop staff have gone through over covid is shocking!
DP works in a supermarket and a lot of them have been spat on or at or verbally abused it’s sheer madness.
@HazelBite I hope your son and his Colleagues don’t suffer with it too much and are better soon.

@StatisticalSense - Teacher have really gone above and beyond in this pandemic.

They absolutely should be in a priority group. Teachers and police are not enemies on opposing sides. I hate this kind of lazy, chucking another section of society under the bus as a debating technique.

What is your agenda exactly? What are you trying to deflect away from?

Police encounter things like this on a daily, if not hourly basis. Spat at and the person has Hep B/C, bitten, assaulted.

Covid is just another thing added into the equation now... it’s rubbish OP- but as police it’s what they have to deal with

Yeah I thought you could get fined £1000 for not self-isolating (and that's first offence).
Hope your son recovers soon

Given that the man concerned was in breach of a court order, it doesn't sound as if the prospect of further convictions would necessarily bother him.

Dh and I are both police although as I work in the control room i only come into contact with others. He's frontline.

It's lucky for the country that the Police Federation haven't made the same stand as the NUT.

I imagine the OPs DS was in contact with him fir some time - transporting to custody and booking in. Lucky custody staff having to deal with him overnight

The thing is, even if you fined this guy, he wouldn't pay it, and no-one follows up. My DH is a Police Officer. He was attacked by a scumbag and that person was ordered to pay £200 (which my DH would get). He didn't pay and nothing more was done.

In my view the Police and Teachers should be vaccinated as priority. I work for myself from home, and I will get my vaccine before my DH (he's just under 50, I am 51), and before my DD who is a Teacher.

I’m so sorry OP, that’s crap. And imagine all the further chains of transmission it’s caused

For what it’s worth, I think all key workers who have to face members of the public should be prioritised for vaccines, incl social workers / prison staff / transport staff etc

Police officer assaults are treated as part of the job. There’s very little punishment for it.

There is a petition to get officers vaccinated
