Why is Matt Hancock not 7 day testing?

Cocopogo · 19/01/2021 21:55

Why does he get to stay home and isolate when the rest of us who have been in contact with someone who tested positive have to go to work and test every day for 7 days and carry on regardless and risk our colleagues and families?

OP posts:
PrivateHall · 19/01/2021 21:57

Huh? First I have heard of what you are describing Shock

BorisJohnsonMicrowavesHisBacon · 19/01/2021 22:00

Never heard of people testing for 7 days on the trot 😕 are you in England?

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 19/01/2021 22:02

That's not what happens at my work.

Is this something to do with teachers?

Bunnybigears · 19/01/2021 22:02

Whose 'the rest of us' because I have never heard of anyone doing what you describe?

starrynight19 · 19/01/2021 22:02

Yes this is what is proposed to happen in schools with the new testing system.
Agree op why doesn’t he do this for himself and his family.

triceratops12 · 19/01/2021 22:03

Never heard of this

Throwaway99 · 19/01/2021 22:05

Where is 7 day testing happening? I've never heard of it.

Bunnybigears · 19/01/2021 22:07

this is what is proposed to happen in schools with the new testing system.

So it isn't actually happening anywhere at the moment and isn't actually a current procedure he can follow but you are wondering why he isnt following it? Hmm

Kendodd · 19/01/2021 22:13

I bet he didn't even get a notification. I reckon hes just saying he did so that people might think their shit t&t works.

And can we just compare how brilliant the NHS have been at rolling out the vaccine, it's both fast and efficient. Now compare that to the shambles Boris's mates have made with their billion pound contracts for track and trace, PPE etc.

Yes as most schools are open these tests are being used on staff and kw / vulnerable students. Rolling out to primary staff this next week.
mrshoho · 19/01/2021 22:19

Yes satisfactory enough for our children and teachers to do this ridiculous 7 day testing crap but nowhere else!

Calmandmeasured1 · 19/01/2021 22:20

The rest of us do not have to do that. A family member was recently pinged by T&T app and told to isolate for 10 days ending at 23:59 hours on 10th day, due to having been in contact with someone Covid-positive. They then became symptomatic and so had to test. Test was positive and 10 days isolation at home recommenced from the date their symptoms started. They are wfh anyway (as is Matt Hancock).

I don't know why you think "the rest of us" have to test every day for 7 days and carry on working. That is not correct.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 19/01/2021 22:21

7 day testing crap may not be happening after all! Thank god for that, it was a very bad idea.

You are making yourself sound as stupid as the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers now.

I personally know people who have received isolation notifications from NHS T&T and there have been posts on MN stating so too. Sounds like it is working to me.
T&T have texted my relative daily and also have telephoned twice and they were comforted by this.

Littleposh · 19/01/2021 22:53

I think carers and maybe other healthcare staff have to do this or they would be off work almost all the time but never heard of it in other jobs.

Certainly not the rules in our office which is isolate as track and trace tells you or get a test if you have symptoms

vodkaredbullgirl · 19/01/2021 22:57

Work in care, tested weekly.

motherrunner · 20/01/2021 05:47

Agree it’s so hypocritical.

I have never been ‘off sick’ in the whole of my teaching career but if a student I teach tests positive or a colleague does then I will stay home and if I’m forced to go into school then I will go to my GP.

It’s disgusting how schools seem to be ‘exempt’ from any measures other workplaces have in place and please don’t tell me I have masks, 2m because I don’t and my school isn’t unique in this.

To now face the face that contacts of positives will not be isolating is downright dangerous.

It is happening in all secondary schools right now if a member of staff has been in contact with a positive case.
Zofloramummy · 20/01/2021 05:58

Actually not all secondaries, I’m in Wales and currently isolating for a t&t app notification. We haven’t been given any lateral flow tests yet but they are coming ‘imminently’ apparently.

Redrivershore · 20/01/2021 06:40

Why would he do this anyway if he can wfh, surely that would be for those that have to go out to work.

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 20/01/2021 06:43

This is happening in many secondary schools at the moment.

SansaSnark · 20/01/2021 06:56

It is happening in secondary schools now. If you are using key worker provision, would you be happy with this for your child?

Bear in mind that the tests only about 60% accurate as well!

unchienandalusia · 20/01/2021 07:36

Because he can work from home?

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 20/01/2021 07:37

I work in a school and a lot of staff are concerned by this idea.
However, most of us cannot do the weekly testing as we all had positive covid tests in November and December and it’s not recommended you retest for 90days. Therefore if someone in our bubble tests positive does that mean we have to isolate at home for 10 or do the 7 day testing?
It’s a ridiculous plan anyway, I really hope it gets scrapped

Redrivershore · 20/01/2021 07:41

Anyone that can wfh would do the same as Matt Hancock, it's not exclusive to him.
