Had first Pfizer vaccine, now highly anxious

Someone give my head a wobble please. I’ve been very privileged and received the Pfizer vaccine first thing this morning. Now I am so unbelievably stressed and anxious about side effects/illness/future health. I know there’s little point to this as they can’t take it back out but my goodness it’s making me so anxious.

Go and watch the BBC Panorama programme about the development of the Oxford Vaccine- it's not the one you've had obvs but hopefully it will remind you about just how amazing that little shot of magic in your arm is, and all the hard work that has gone into getting it there. And they are mostly women!! It's amazing stuff. Hope you continue to feel ok.

Heybeendyingtomeetyou · 17/01/2021 21:35

I had mine a few weeks ago. I didn’t even have a sore arm but I had a banging headache and felt utterly exhausted for a few days -as did all my colleagues-then we were all absolutely fine.
You will be okay op.

CosmicComfort · 17/01/2021 21:37

I had it 2 weeks ago, sore arm but nothing else.

Fortuitous timing as now have covid outbreak on my ward and have spent most of the last week working with the covid patients. I know I’m not immune but my LFT tests have been negative and I feel well and my husband has no symptoms so I am keeping everything crossed I stay well and I don’t get it.

We are really fortunate to have access to the vaccine so early, hopefully you will feel better about it as days go by.

Skade · 17/01/2021 21:40

I had mine on Friday afternoon and two hours later my grandad died from Covid, so I feel extra lucky to have had it but also gutted that he was a week off getting it in his care home but caught the virus instead. It really brought it home to me how lucky I am to have been offered it. I felt fluey Saturday afternoon and went to bed at 4pm but better today and energy is back.

PondDipper · 17/01/2021 21:45

Another highly anxious person here Blush I’ve had the Pfizer and after reading about the horrific Covid threads/stories, I’m feeling very grateful. This is a GOOD thing OP. We are privileged Smile

fitflopqueen · 17/01/2021 21:50

hope you have a restful night, I had my first Pfizer last thursday morning, sore arm, Friday morning felt achy so did a big walk, felt awful with headache, nausea etc at lunchtime - . Cleared by teatime and fine since. Try not to worry.

PalaminoPower · 17/01/2021 21:51

Thank you everyone. I am really happy. Honestly! I happily have the flu in every year without a second thought. It’s just a lot to process I guess, living with the stress of it for so long and finally seeing a way out.

And I do tend to think the worse always and do need regularly reminding that good things can happen and don’t need offsetting with a disaster!

Sorry, cut to the end to ask: if you have the flu jab every year without a second thought, don't you think you might be investing emotion, rather than science into how you 'feel' about this, because it's All Over Everything?!

I prevaricated about the Pfizer I because I didn't really relish knowing that I was likely to feel unwell (though I thought that before having it!).

But the elements of a bit of work-based coercion and the knowledge there are people out there who'd trample their granny (although not necessarily for good, scientific, but rather- emotional reasons, to be offered this) despite that I'm pissed off that the three-week Dose 2 is actually 3 months ... I went ahead.

Rough weekend, in bad all of one day, feeling better now.

Job done.

I've a) done my bit, and b) was able to do it via this jab.

AKissAndASmile · 17/01/2021 22:01

@Miljea
What?!

CrochetToTheMoon · 17/01/2021 22:04

I’ve been very lucky to have both of my vaccines and other than a few days of feeling very tired, headachey and having a sore arm I was grand. I’m the same every year after my flu vaccine too. Try not to worry OP Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/01/2021 22:06

@RoseFence, nutmilk is their vegan chocolate. They sell it in flakes for the velvetiser and it tastes like praline. I’m allergic to dairy and vegan chocolate is usually dark so it’s nice to have something creamy for a change.

I’m grating a bar of Waitrose Belgian 54% cocoa dark chocolate now I’ve run out of nutmilk flakes so I’ll try that tomorrow after work.

When the pandemics over and I can go to Aldi again I’ll try their 85% cocoa chocolate in it to. I’m doing this in the name of science and I hope you all appreciate my research.

I imagine there is more emotion than anything. I’m actually hugely trusting of science and facts and clever people hence happily trotting along for it this morning. It was the thinking about dropping dead on the spot after that got me all anxious.Grin

Glad you didn't! Nor did I!

Hope you didn't feel too rough! Pretty much wrote off my weekend! 😂

What, what? What don't you understand?

Carolofthebellies · 17/01/2021 22:12

We are privileged OP and this is a safe vaccine

It's too soon to say that this vaccine is safe.

Nonamesavail · 17/01/2021 22:12

Op i totally understand. When I did my 10min wait in the room I was convinced I wouldn't come out. Its just emotion and anxiety.

Frazzled2207 · 17/01/2021 22:14

you're very very lucky!
I know three people have had it. Two totally fine just a bit of a sore arm .
The third person felt a bit unwell for about a day - slightly feverish and ended up getting a covid test (negative). But within 48 hours was totally fine.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 17/01/2021 22:20

Had mine Thursday, felt like I had been given a dead arm Friday. Put myself to bed Saturday afternoon as I couldn't get warm, every joint ached and was so tired. Even got up and did a covid test as I was convinced that was what it was. Was negative. Felt absolutely fine Sunday morning and sore arm gone.
I'm not worried at all. Work in a surge centre, never have been worried. We are extremely lucky to have had it.

QualityRoads · 17/01/2021 22:27

Just trust the reports of people you actually know who have had it. I know several now and none of them have had any problems.

Icequeen01 · 17/01/2021 22:28

My 81 year old mum has had both of her Pfizer jabs. She has had no side effects other than a sore arm.

I'm so thankful she has had them but worried sick too. I had to take her in the car for her 2nd jab last Saturday. On Thursday I tested positive. I am praying that the first dose gave her enough immunity if I was contagious on the day I took her 😢

AKissAndASmile · 17/01/2021 22:38

@Icequeen01
The vaccine wouldn't have given her immunity if you have given it to her, but I don't think you would have given it to her given the timescale.

This might help

Icequeen01 · 17/01/2021 22:52

I hope you are right @AKissAndASmile I just can't believe how rubbish the timing was. I read somewhere that you are contagious about 3 days before you start showing symptoms in which case that would probably have been the Monday and I didn't have contact with her after the Sunday. We have been so careful I could weep.

I think if we get through to next Saturday and she is still ok we will be out of the woods.

RoseFence · 17/01/2021 22:59

@Fluffycloudland77 thank you! That sound delicious.
