Had first Pfizer vaccine, now highly anxious

Someone give my head a wobble please. I’ve been very privileged and received the Pfizer vaccine first thing this morning. Now I am so unbelievably stressed and anxious about side effects/illness/future health. I know there’s little point to this as they can’t take it back out but my goodness it’s making me so anxious.

I will keep telling myself that any side effects are instant. Then I only need to worry for a couple of days.

Rather than the rest of my life!

This thread is worrying. Its brilliant you have had the vaccine @PalaminoPower and others. But it doesn't stop you getting covid, although hopefully less severe. Please still be very careful. Theres a thread on active about this.

Didyousaynutella · 17/01/2021 19:27

Had mine this week. The day after it I had a very sore arm, through the day i got a bit light headed and shivery and felt like I was coming down with something. By the time I got home from work I had a temp and was shivery and shaky and had aching limbs. Couldn’t lift my arm above my head. Went to bed feeling very sorry for myself. Woke up the next day feeling fab. Just a bit of a sore arm for a few more days.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/01/2021 19:33

Of course, everyone that has had the vaccine should still be taking the steps we all should be. Immunity takes time to establish and a single dose is most likely to prevent serious illness. It may still be possible to be infected and to transmit to others.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/01/2021 19:35

You lucky lucky bastard.

Now put down the internet.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/01/2021 19:35

We know that it doesn't stop us getting covid, but less severe.

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/01/2021 19:41

My husband has had both doses of Pfizer. He felt rough for a day after the second one but fine after that. I don't know how long I'll have to wait for mine but it can't come soon enough.

Oblomov20 · 17/01/2021 19:42

What we you actually anxious about? Specifically?
You haven't said.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/01/2021 19:42

The BMJ is one decent source of information, if you want to look things up

Suzi888 · 17/01/2021 20:06

@AKissAndASmile

Understandable, OP, but we're all in the same boat. If it does turn out there are long term side effects we only did the best we could with the information we had at the time. I tell myself that in any situation where I have regrets Smile
^^this. No one knows what the long term side effects are, but I don’t think we have a choice. At least you won’t be alone, hopefully there won’t be any long term side effects.
TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/01/2021 20:11

Hi OP! I had my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on 16th December and I'm still here with no bad side effects to report! I had an achey arm for a day or two after but nothing else. Obviously other's will have different experiences to me, but there are many more who will also have next to no side effects. Well done on having your vaccine and playing your part in getting us back to eventual normality!

PandemicPalava · 17/01/2021 20:15

My Nan had it Friday and feels fine

PalaminoPower · 17/01/2021 20:19

@Oblomov20

Just all the stuff!

Randomly dropping dead mostly. Yes I know it’s ridiculous. I’m avoiding all vaccine reading anyway. It’s done now and I know I’m incredibly lucky and I am so grateful. And I feel absolutely fine too. It’s just silly anxiety which I know is silly but also triggers that flight response and makes me want to run for the hills away from nothing in particular except my overthinking! My brain is complicated but I can generally talk myself round. I’m currently stopping myself from writing letters to my children to be opened on my untimely demise. Told you I tend to overthink!

WhydoesItAlwaysRainMe · 17/01/2021 20:41

I had mine last week and felt like this after (I made a post but it got deleted).
I'm still anxious now about it so will have a read through this thread.

PalaminoPower · 17/01/2021 20:42

Why did it get deleted?

OP posts:
FippertyGibbett · 17/01/2021 20:45

If I had the choice I’d have the Pfizer. You are very lucky.
I know 3 people who have had it. One had a slight temp, the others nothing.

RoseFence · 17/01/2021 20:56

@Fluffycloudland77

I felt poorly for a few hours so I had a hotel Chocolat nutmilk from the velvetiser.

Any excuse.

Mhm that sounds lush. What kind of nut milk and coco do you use and how do you prepare this in the velvetiser? I've seen all the xmas posts on the velvetiser and have been tempted but cant quite picture how this works and if it makes a mess or the velvetiser is tricky to clean.
Nonamesavail · 17/01/2021 21:06

I had mine today too. We are doing the best thing.

Nonamesavail · 17/01/2021 21:07

I totally understand by the way. I overthink too...but we did the best we could which was to have it x

Unicant · 17/01/2021 21:09

My husband had it a few days ago.. had a sore arm and a mild temp for the rest of that day but is completely fine now. We went on an 8 mile walk yesterday hes in top health lol...
All of his team had it (NHS) and they were all fine except for one who had a temp, ached and was dizzy for about 24hrs... but she is also fine now
I really wouldn't worry yourself you will be fine!

tittysprinkles · 17/01/2021 21:12

I had mine today too. I feel quite excited that this is the beginning of the end and I have played a small part in bringing this pandemic to an end. Not worried about long term side effects.

I'm a GP and have never seen a patient with problems related to vaccination not sure why this would be any different?

Nonamesavail · 17/01/2021 21:16

I am more worried about long covid

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 17/01/2021 21:18

I had mine 2 weeks ago and had a slightly tender arm for a couple of days, a very mild headache the day after and felt rather tired/emotional on day 3 (rather like PMS but it wasn't)
Agree the key is not to overthink it. My only worry now is when will I get my second one!

Littlebird1234 · 17/01/2021 21:25

I had the same feeling too OP. I’m BF so that’s also added to my irrational fears. But my logical risk assessment was that covid poses me (and my family) the bigger risk right now. And the long term effects of covid could clearly be quite significant. So I think as someone else said this is all probably quite normal in an unsettling world and not helped but access to so much fake news/mis-informed speculation etc.
