Anyone in London area?

OP posts:
Sunplanetearth8 · 16/01/2021 21:51

Oh, and lots of queues outside Sainsbury’s etc!

TallTowerFan · 16/01/2021 21:51

It's as you would expect. Cold , rainy , most people are following rules carefully. Lots are wearing masks in the street.

In my building people are waiting patiently to use the lift as we've been advised not to share it with anyone outside of our household.

Solasum · 16/01/2021 21:53

St James’s park was quite busy early. Many more people around than in the first lockdown.

HeronLanyon · 16/01/2021 21:55

I’m very central. Only been out once maybe twice a week and then not far at all. Honestly my area is extremely quiet. Can hear police and ambulances. Food deliveries and delivery vans generally. At night it becomes obvious my immediate area appears around half populated. Think a lot are elsewhere maybe bubbling. Lots of support of neighbours going on here. Shared food deliveries etc. Local infant school appears busy. Far fewer sea gulls from the river than usual I’ve thought directly linked to cafes and restaurants being shut ? Haven’t seen/heard local squares’ foxes for a bit either. Nice not to be woken by bottle pick ups from local places but that’s a very bittersweet benefit. The hum of the city is quiet. Feels quiet like a Sunday from decades ago.

bigchris · 16/01/2021 21:55

Surprising the parks are busier when first wave was a weird heatwave and now all it does is rain

RememberSelfCompassion · 16/01/2021 21:55

So sorry ICUnurse. It nust be so hard to be seekng what you do at work and then see/read about people continuing as normal.

Its strange how the media first time round was all full of the horror from the wards and shocking scenes in other countries and right now that doesn't seem to be as prevalent. I am still shocked so many are in school.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 16/01/2021 21:57

No snow which is annoying as the app said 100% snow yesterday and there was none ☹️

But I’m guessing that’s not what you meant

HeronLanyon · 16/01/2021 22:00

I’m furious about the no snow ! Dug out my warm boots and was gonna go for first (masked) longer walk for ages.

Dogmalysis · 16/01/2021 22:05

Another health care professional. It is hell and getting worse, worse than April. It is also nothing like the first lockdown when people actually stayed at home.

Lanzo · 16/01/2021 22:06

@StillGoingToWork

If you mean is there someone with a bell shouting "Bring Out Your Dead!" in the street I think you might be disappointed. Grin

Wilkolampshade · 16/01/2021 22:08

Why?

Elephant4 · 16/01/2021 22:10

Weirdly normal

There was snow here this morning, then rain, so nice sludgy, cold slop underfoot.

It is very cold now.

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 16/01/2021 22:12

Why don’t you switch on the news, it about the only place that gets reported on ever Wink

SlopesOff · 16/01/2021 22:13

I decided against my once weekly venture outside but was informed that some of the supermarkets had long queues and most didn't.

Still people taking walks, people that normally don't ever pass the house, only during lockdowns. More dog walks than ever before, more dogs than before but hardly any in the rescue centre.

peacockfeather11 · 16/01/2021 22:16

Definitely more people out - you would never think we were in a lockdown. Park was busy,

Camdenish · 16/01/2021 22:16

People are wearing masks in the street unlike last lockdown. The parks are stupidly busy at 3.30pm and everyone leaves an hour later at dusk. This seems dangerous but as it’s the only time of day the kids can go out I understand it. Sometimes there are whole schools of children in the park and they all have to walk home in the same direction.
Last time one family that I knew of on my street had COVID. This time it’s every third house. Last time the cough was awful but this time people are complaining more about stomach issues.

EgSk · 16/01/2021 22:18

Rainy ! I’ve noticed more people wearing face masks while out walking . My husband had to go to the grocery store ( a big Tesco ) as we ran out of food before our next delivery and he said it was surprisingly quiet. No idea if it was just our area ( south west London ) or he got lucky.

rosetylersbiggun · 16/01/2021 22:18

Pretty busy, especially the parks. The tubes are sometimes so crowded! Not pre-Covid crowded but crowded enough that you sometimes have people sitting on both sides of you.

Definitely more mask wearing, and more mask wearing outdoors.

user2021 · 16/01/2021 22:18

Live Zone 1/2 border, loads of people walking around the park, bored out of their fucking minds. Playgrounds very busy with stressed parents desperate for their young DC to burn off some energy (I include myself in this category).

Roads quite busy.

Very wet and rainy.

MajesticWhine · 16/01/2021 22:20

Parks are very busy and muddy. Lots of people out and about. People are not afraid. More masks being worn outside though.

Fizzgigg · 16/01/2021 22:22

It's been so much busier this lockdown! We go there every day and the paths are incredibly busy. Fortunately very few people venturing into the very muddy grass so we, in our wellies, have it to ourselves
crocsonmyfeet · 16/01/2021 22:25

On the streets? Normal, pretty quiet, not much traffic. People wearing masks in shops and on public transport. Non-essential shops closed.

In the London hospital I work in? Hell. Overwhelmed with patients, so much death. Elderly parents and adult children admitted together, elderly husbands and wives dying on the same ward. Pretty much having to ration care, ITU at 300% capacity and climbing and it's not enough. Surgeons/paediatric doctors/dental nurses helping out on the wards and in ITU. No staff, no beds, not enough oxygen.

AcornAutumn · 16/01/2021 22:27

In what way?

Everyone is very bored. I have to use the Tube to do care visits for mum, it's very quiet.

Supermarket queues are full of bored people.

Local greengrocer and chip shop staff told me a lot of people lost jobs in December? And they've heard lots of talk about people who can't pay the next month's rent. There is a lot of that in my block of flats too.

Economic situation a desperate worry for most of us I expect. There's always long queues outside banks during the day too. A lot of them need to see a member of staff to explain and ask for help I guess.

Pretty dire.

Youngatheart00 · 16/01/2021 22:28

It’s grim but I suspect most of the country is. The case rates are starting to gradually reduce where I am but still over 1000/100k.

Cold, rainy, dull.
