Vaccination Celebration Thread - 15 Jan 2020 onwards

Now that the vaccination roll out is underway, I find myself singing these words in my head, to the tune of the old pop song "Celebrate" by Kool and the Gang...

*Vaccinate those arms - come on!
Celebrate the news - come on!

There's a party going on right here
A vaccination, for everyone this year
So put your arms out, and come on through
We're gonna vaccinate, all the day through

Come on now - vaccination!
We're gonna vaccinate and save some lives
It's time for celebration!
Let's all celebrate hope of good times*

MIL is having her first jab tomorrow. Smile Once she has received her 2nd jab, we will wait 10 days or so before having her over for a vaccinatiin celebration dinner! Smile

So far, just over 3.2 million people in the UK have received their first jabs, and around half a million have received their second jabs. (I will try to attach a link below, so people can see the latest stats.) The vaccine numbers will rise sharply as more GP and pharmacy hubs start to become involved, so everything looks very positive on the vaccine front.

There are still thousands of people ill and dying of Covid, and I don't mean to demean the reality of the suffering that is still going on, but this thread is intended to be a positive thread for people to track and discuss the rising vaccination numbers, as a way to focus on the hope of better times ahead.

Great news about vaccines but you shouldn’t have your MIL over for a celebration dinner Hmm as that’s totally irresponsible and illegal.

WhydoesItAlwaysRainMe · 15/01/2021 18:17

Love this GrinGrin
Had mine last week Smile

Defenbaker · 15/01/2021 18:17

@BBCONEANDTWO Thanks BBC! I can't sing, but I know someone who plays guitar and has a YT channel, so maybe I will ask him if he'd like to have a go at doing a parody of the song on his channel. Smile

Biscuit
Defenbaker · 15/01/2021 18:23

@Crumpetycrump MIL lives alone and is part of our bubble, so we figure that once she has received both jabs, and waited for the recommended time for the vaccine to build her immunity, she will be as safe as she's ever going to be. We won't be throwing a party for 100 people, it will just be the 3 of us, and we will have windows open and keep our distance, we won't be hugging her or sitting close to her. She has been shielding for 10 months and has been very low at times, so we want to have her over for dinner when she feels safe.

@Rosehip10 Not sure why the biscuit? I'm not suggesting that anyone throws a big party - that would be totally irresponsible! I've adapted the original songs lyrics to imply the party atmosphere that people might experience, once they and their loved ones have been jabbed twice and might start to mix again - in small numbers, carefully.

@WhydoesItAlwaysRainMe yay! I had mine last week too- NHS staff!

Good for you
@Rosehip10
!! It's really something to celebrate! We live overseas and have all been vaccinated and can't wait until our folks in the UK are - and for when it's safer to to come 'home' to see, hug and kiss everyone!

Never, ever let anyone piss on your parade and enjoy finally getting your family back together!! Here's hoping everyone else does soon too!

Anothermother3 · 15/01/2021 18:39

Mine is tomorrow it feels like such a positive

Defenbaker · 15/01/2021 19:13

Good luck @Anothermother3 I hope it goes well for you. MIL is a bit nervous about the risk of people queueing too close together, but hopefully it will be organised in a way to avoid that happening.

@neondragonfly Lucky you - where do you live? I read that Israel and Bahrain have done well with their vaccinations - are you in one of those countries?

@ScrumpyBetty and @WhydoesItAlwaysRainMe Congrats! Where do you live?

I really do think vaccines are our way out of this. Things aren't great right now (understatement!) but it seems we are on the road out. All those who spent 8 months predicting that there would never be a vaccine ("sorry!") are now busy speaking darkly of 'new variants'. But there are grounds for (cautious) optimism, and that's more than can be said for nearly a year at this point. I'll take that.

MarcelineMissouri · 15/01/2021 19:21

Both my in laws have had their first jabs and they are 75 and 76!!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/01/2021 19:21

I like your style Grin

CorpusCallosum · 15/01/2021 19:23

I'm getting jabbed tomorrow!!! 🥳

TravellingSpoon · 15/01/2021 19:27

I had my first one yesterday. My Nan has had both of hers.

Iliketeaagain · 15/01/2021 19:43

I booked mine for about 10 days time (nhs staff). Was really surprised that I burst in to happy tears when I got the booking confirmation. I mean I'll be glad to get it, but I didn't realise just how glad!

ScrumpyBetty · 15/01/2021 19:45

@Defenbaker Somerset

Layladylay234 · 15/01/2021 19:47

My 75 year old shielding dad got his appt today for next Sat. My mum's going to ask if they'll do her too when she takes him. You don't ask,you don't get....

PuzzledObserver · 15/01/2021 19:48

I’m loving seeing those numbers going up - we have already vaccinated over 6% of adults, yay!!

Wales, where my Mum lives, is a bit behind England, and she hasn’t heard yet, but her GP practice says they only got a small amount this week. Expecting much more next week, hoping she will get her date then.

My own urgency (group 6) has reduced since I’ve now had the lurgy. I’ve probably got about as much immunity now as from having a jab, so my personal anxiety is much diminished. Rooting for the rest of the country, the lives saved, the long Covid misery avoided and the eventual return to normal interactions.

Defenbaker · 15/01/2021 19:52

@ScrumpyBetty Ah, that explains your username! Smile

@Iliketeaagain burst into happy tears I'm not surprised, the relief must be immense for NHS staff receiving their jabs. Smile

So many happy people sharing their good news... the light at the end of the tunnel seems brighter today.

@Defenbaker I’m not worried about the queue because my colleagues dutifully queued in the rain this week as they were ensuring social distancing was adhered to. They were a bit damp and cold but said there was quite a positive atmosphere. I’d rather it wasn’t a train ride to the hospital. I’m being silly and convincing myself I’m going to get covid en route but obviously I’ll be really sensible. I need to go and do more home visits soon and I’m so pleased things are moving forward with vaccinating people.

Defenbaker · 15/01/2021 20:08

Hopefully the train won't be too crowded, on a Saturday. Good luck for tomorow @Anothermother3 .
