Vaccination Celebration Thread - 15 Jan 2020 onwards

Now that the vaccination roll out is underway, I find myself singing these words in my head, to the tune of the old pop song "Celebrate" by Kool and the Gang...

*Vaccinate those arms - come on!
Celebrate the news - come on!

There's a party going on right here
A vaccination, for everyone this year
So put your arms out, and come on through
We're gonna vaccinate, all the day through

Come on now - vaccination!
We're gonna vaccinate and save some lives
It's time for celebration!
Let's all celebrate hope of good times*

MIL is having her first jab tomorrow. Smile Once she has received her 2nd jab, we will wait 10 days or so before having her over for a vaccinatiin celebration dinner! Smile

So far, just over 3.2 million people in the UK have received their first jabs, and around half a million have received their second jabs. (I will try to attach a link below, so people can see the latest stats.) The vaccine numbers will rise sharply as more GP and pharmacy hubs start to become involved, so everything looks very positive on the vaccine front.

There are still thousands of people ill and dying of Covid, and I don't mean to demean the reality of the suffering that is still going on, but this thread is intended to be a positive thread for people to track and discuss the rising vaccination numbers, as a way to focus on the hope of better times ahead.

Latest figure for 1st vaccination is 3,559,179, and MIL is 1 of the lucky recipients. Smile Everything was very well organised and the whole thing was sorted in 25 minutes, which included 15 mins after the jab, for monitoring. She received a card stating that she had received the Pfizer vaccine, and that she would receive her 2nd jab in 21 to 28 days, but no second appt was given. I guess the cards were printed before the policy changed about the 2nd jab, but I hope she won't have to wait the whole 12 weeks for it. Never mind, the Pfizer jab had slightly better results in trials, so it's good the elderly are getting it.

DH knows a couple of people in their 70s who have also received the vaccine, so things seem to be moving at a good pace now.

Oh good to hear. I had mine too. Quiet and very organised. Feels like things are moving in the right direction. Hope your MIL gets her second dose soon! Mine is booked for the beginning of April so it is quite a gap but maybe that will change if they get more.

I've just had my first Pfizer jab! (front line worker). Feel so grateful. No sore arm yet! Only had it three hours ago though. They booked my second there and then, for 10 weeks time.

Brilliant news @busface999 - a well deserved perk of your job. Smile MIL was a bit disappointed they didn't give her a date for the 2nd appt there and then, but I suspect they might be waiting on another delivery before they make further appts, because apparently it's all a bit sporadic with the Pfizer vaccine. 3 months is a long time to wait when you've been virtually housebound for 9 months, but with the high case numbers it's understandable that they are concentrating on first jabs for now.

Excellent thread! We need some more positivity!

I posted this on the good news thread yesterday-
I reckon by this time next week we will have vaccinated around 6m people. Which is the entire top two groups and accounts for 68% of deaths.

Brighter days are ahead! (Makes me want to listen to “here comes the sun” by the Beatles) Smile

@Wherediditgo Great song choice. ☺

The way things are going there will soon be 10% of the UK population vaccinated. Also, several million people who have recovered from the virus itself, so the combined effect is a sizeable chunk of the UK. This summer is looking so much more hopeful now.

I agree. Won’t be long now!

Around 5 million people have received their first vaccine jabs now, and 65 more vaccination centres opened today in the UK.

On South Today they featured some people who had volunteered to work for St Johns Ambulance Service, to vaccinate people. They showed a couple of the volunteers giving their first jabs... they were nervous but did well. I would like to be part of the vaccination effort, but will wait until I've had my jab, as I feel that it would be quite a risky environment for someone of my age (59). I admire people who are taking the risk, but people in my age group are less likely to fight off the virus easily so I'm being cautious [cowardly].
