Pretty insensitive. Some people on here have lost loved ones. Most people ignored your comment which you deserve

Isn't their population around 5x ours though? So not that bad. Presumably because they have lots of areas with much lower population density?

Thanks mrsshelton

i've not had an eye on the US figures so not sure if they are in line with previous. caught a bit on the news earlier how its rife over there

DogInATent · 14/01/2021 23:49

937 deaths already recorde as having occured on the 11th.

So we've probably reached 1,000 deaths/day some time in the last three days. That's a tragic milestone and we haven't yet seen the peak of deaths relating to the christmas period.

Its sad...I would say the peak will be the end of Jan maybe? About 4 weeks from the most reported cases?

Given the very late data release last night, the Covid Messenger site wasnt updated till the early hours of this morning.

You can get the latest cases and rates per 100K updated with last nights (very late) govt data release on the www.covidmessenger.com homepage.

hettyhooverdoover · 15/01/2021 07:35

So the amount of cases recorded of covid in the last 24hrs show a drop in every age group except the over 80s. Which says to me that Covid is still spreading like wildfire through the carehomes :-(

I was surprised at the rise in over 80s as I thought they would be less likely to be going out but i didnt factor in care homes

Frazzled2207 · 15/01/2021 09:17

Government has said everyone in care homes should be vaccinated by the end of January. I’m hoping that sometime in feb we’ll see stats start to drop for that age group (they have already in Israel who are on the ball with the vaccine)

Crumpetycrump · 15/01/2021 09:32

Great to see lots more green on the Covid messenger website Smile. Thanks @littleowl1

Flev · 15/01/2021 09:45

Part of the difficulty with care homes is that they can't come in and vaccinate when there is an outbreak- and unfortunately the delay in getting it out to the care homes has meant a growth in the number of homes with outbreaks.

I’m addition to care homes, It’ll be hospital transmission in that age group too and from carers having to look after those still at home. Which is why the suggestion of that age group being ‘shielded’ whilst every one else goes back to their lives would never work. They’re possibly the age group least likely to be able to control their risk.

Yes, absolutely.

Looking back it seems we haven't had a higher peak this time for in the day death recording (as opposed to reported). It seems pretty similar to peak. That may rise though.
DogInATent · 16/01/2021 09:55

@itsgettingweird - the peak is less important than the area under the graph. But, the peak will clearly be higher this time around. This second wave is much worse than the first.

998 deaths currently recorded for the 11th so that will go over 1,000 with today's update. There was only one day in the first wave that exceeded 1,000 deaths (8th April, 1,072) and this time around we've reached that milestone still on an upward trajectory with warnings that the worst weeks are still to come (hospitalisations, ICU and deaths lagging the case rate).

There's a risk we may see another uptick in cases when people decide it's safe to visit granny "because she's had the jab" - I don't think there's enough awareness of how vaccintions work (we need to stop being proud of failing science at school) and people are too stupidly-desperate to get back to "normal".

DogInATent · 16/01/2021 09:58

I think a lot of people re looking at the wrong graph, the one to pay attention to is not the one on the news or in the papers it's this one:

Deaths within 28 days of positive test by date of death
coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/deaths#card-deaths_within_28_days_of_positive_test_by_date_of_death
