Anyone else becoming irritated by STAY HOME

Lemons1571 · 14/01/2021 09:02

It’s starting to do my head in. We are all At Home. Haven’t left since Sunday. Apart from DH who is a keyworker so no choice. Haven’t even ventured near the mud sodden garden. How much more can we STAY HOME? Are we doing it wrong? Perhaps I should shriek any time someone goes within a foot of the front door. And putting the bin out - forget it!

Yet the media still keep on, Stay Home Stay Home Stay Home, accompanied by endless clips of makeshift ITU’s in children’s wards. Wtf do they want? Us all to lock ourselves in the under stairs cupboard?

Am beginning to think if the messaging carries on like this, everyone will reach fatigue point and switch off from it all. Ok I know I’m being a mardy cow and unreasonable, but does anyone else feel like this?

If the government gave a shit about saving the nhs, perhaps they should have funded it properly in the first place.

For the PP talking about travelling to work, that's something else that needs addressing surely? More people were able to wfh last time, why cant the employers allow the same this time when transmissions and deaths are higher? Looks like Scotland has the right idea on this.

Because some things just didn't work last time. In some cases working from home meant things simply not getting done because they can't be done effectively from home.

Lots of industries closed altogether last time, factories, warehouses, some shops and online retailers didn't even provide deliveries, plenty of takeaways round here made the decision to close even though they weren't forced to. They lost a lot of business.

All of that isn't happening now.

I don't get what people don't get.

MrsHusky · 14/01/2021 12:57

i definitely have fatigue.

sick of it being mentioned on every show, every fucking night, the news, the one show, panorama, every radio broadcast, the fucking 'government broadcast' of whitty wittering on.

I think all of us who are complying are probably sick of hearing it, i know i am.

Lemons1571 · 14/01/2021 13:01

I also have a suspicion that down the line somewhere we’ll all be made fools of again. Remember back in May, how Silly we all were to not read the guidance about how you are special if you have children and couldn’t possibly be expected to follow the guidance? How we could have travelled hundreds of miles with symptoms and that was ok as it was “specific and limited”? We were all made to feel stupid not to realise this loophole and act on it. Makes me resent the Stay Home government shrieking even more.

But footballers are hardly providing an essential/key service with their job are they?!

I think the wider picture with footballers especially, is that a minority of them seem not to think that Covid rules apply to them eg having big parties over Christmas & then posting them all over SM!

Yes I don't hold footballers in much high regard, especially in the context of Covid

CountessFrog · 14/01/2021 13:07

I’m mightily tired of it. I’ve stayed the fuck at home since March. I’m not stupid. I’m also vaccinated.

Last night I went to marks and Spencer at 9pm because I couldnt stay at home any longer. It was empty, so I doubt I caught or transmitted a virus to anyone.

Did get some nice cheese.

I’m at home again now.

A lot of people still working aren't providing absolutely essential services. There does come a point though where every job is key in relation to the economy.
Xerochrysum · 14/01/2021 13:13

I was watching the news from my native country. It's scary. They announced state of emergency in certain major cities. People who is quite ill with covid are not able to be admitted and on the waiting list. They were also saying some non covid related ambulance patients were rejected from multiple hospitals since they are overwhelmed. (Hospital system is different, we have many small hospitals as well as big ones.)
I don't find the reminder annoying at all, tbh.

borntohula · 14/01/2021 13:16

I've just read that 'some people locally have reported that despite being extra vigilant and careful the virus has still found its way into their homes.'

Sooo, what's the point in even trying anymore? That's how I feel anyway.

Cam77 · 14/01/2021 13:17

Personally think when all said and done, the biggest factor behind the hugely different outcomes in Asia and the West (generally speaking) is simply compliance. In the UK for instance probably 80-90% comply pretty well, but thats still 10 million who don't give a shit and spread it eveywhere. In many of the Asian countries that 10/20% is probably less than 3%....the greater willingness to sacrifice for one's elders and the greater good, greater respect for types of authority. Would make all the difference.

MsFannySqueers · 14/01/2021 13:20

I agree with you OP and Recycledblonde you have explained the situation in a nutshell. To address the OP’s point regarding repetitive messaging. In the olden days I was a specialist support teacher mentoring student teachers in how they could address behavioural issues within their classrooms. Time and time again some teachers would endlessly rant at the whole class regarding behaviour.
Guess what ? It just became background noise to the children. This is what the government are doing to the public constantly berating the vast majority of people who are doing their best to comply. Individuals whose behaviour is believed to be a problem should be targeted and the behaviour addressed by the authorities. I am beyond admiration for anyone working on an ICU ward but I agree with PP’s that the constant misery fest of news reporting from hospitals is counter productive, with the public even beginning to ‘switch off’ from those awful scenes.

WeatherwaxOn · 14/01/2021 13:23

@TwigTheWonderKid

I don't think the announcements are personally aimed at you, I suspect it's more they are targeted at the people who aren't staying at home...

Though do agree with your point re NHS

But if they're not staying at home, they might not be seeing the adverts...
FreakinFrankNFurter · 14/01/2021 13:24

Perhaps the government should send letters to all employers telling them they should be letting their employees work from home when their job can be done from home

My DH would stay most days if his boss wasn’t such a dick

Phineyj · 14/01/2021 13:28

Cam77 yes and lots and lots more police of various types per head, of course.

rookiemere · 14/01/2021 13:28

@MsFannySqueers I try to be upstairs reading my cheery book by the time the news comes on, if I'm not - DH likes to watch it - then I will go up if they start showing hospital scenes.

My life is depressing enough, I can only cope with the ongoing restrictions by compartmentalising. Before the new variant I had a bit of hope, and was cautiously optimistic about the future, now I can only focus on each day as it comes.

We're all weary and the compliant continue to be compliant. Stop haranguing us and focus on businesses that are forcing people to come int work, people with a positive result not isolating and big breaks of the rules like house parties.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 14/01/2021 13:29

I drove past an out of town retail park on the way home from Sainsbury's last week and there were an awful lot of cars about considering we were supposed to only be going out for essentials. Smyths toys, Next and Argos all still doing click and collect and had massive queues at each. 🤔

StCharlotte · 14/01/2021 13:32

I stay at home.

My neighbour who tested positive last weekend has just sauntered past.

Ask him.

BonnesVacances · 14/01/2021 13:33

@TheGreatWave They are all going to work as the road and driveways are as empty during the day as they have always been. Work which in March they were able to do at home, but now seemingly can't. Most likely because their employers won't let them or the lockdown rules are too generous this time.

What it does highlight though is that the Stay at Home missive only applies to some, while everyone else gets to leave the house to go to work because they have more important jobs termed Critical or Essential. I don't as I'm a full time carer for my DD so I have to stay at home every day, and watch all my neighbours doing the opposite. And wonder if how we are ever going to get a handle on this shitshow?

Cornettoninja · 14/01/2021 13:39

@MrsFrisbyMouse fair enough - I think your post stood out to me because I’m guilty of this I’m afraid, no bad intentions just a very busy internal voice!

I walked past my neighbour and her dc the other day on the way home from work and it took a while for me to register her and say hello back, even then I was a bit brusque and it could have come across judgey/rude. I really wasn’t, I just had an internal to do list running through my head (and an imaginary argument with my boss!Grin)

Could you recommend a cheery book? I too need this. Can't face the news anymore! Sorry to derail

Agree. Wish there was an agree button !
MrsFrisbyMouse · 14/01/2021 13:45

@Cornettoninja

Smile I know. I often have a similar face, or just lost in thought with furrowed brow. In my kinder less irritated moments I think most people are just trying to get through their day, and don't give a rats are about what I am up to!

Cornettoninja · 14/01/2021 13:45

Re: working from home, there were actually a lot of employers in March that closed that didn’t need to according to the directives at the time. Myself and DP have talked before about how this probably did us all a favour case number wise but I think the government probably don’t actually recognise this.

CruCru · 14/01/2021 13:47

I haven’t heard of footballers having big parties - I can believe that some have. I don’t like football but I do have a lot of sympathy for professional sportspeople right now. This is their only chance to do their jobs - in a couple of years at least a few will be too old and past their peak. For that reason, I am okay with keeping professional sports going.

But yes, I can’t bear “STAY HOME”.

Cornettoninja · 14/01/2021 13:48

@Missushbb hitchhikers guide to the galaxy?

XenoBitch · 14/01/2021 13:51

I get pissed off when you ask on FB (or even MN) something about if a particular shop is open or similar, and you get a reply saying "stay the fuck at home".
I asked on a local FB group if the car park in a local country park was open... most people were very helpful and said it was (cafe is too so bonus Smile). Got some cowbag telling me to stay the fuck at home. Thanks love, but not what I was asking and not a necessary comment to make. She then said I am to blame for the pandemic.
Same pisses me off when someone asks about the best place to get a full English breakfast and some every so helpful twat says make one at home.
