Vaccinations

For those of us who are in the category of people who will be vaccinated last and not until the autumn - there is no guarantee that the vaccine stops transmission. Therefore we will be relying on those who are vaccinated and won't have concerns about catching it to stay at home and keep the rest of us safe. Tables turned. Will they? Won't they?

@Littlewhitedove2

But it only offers up to 90% and we actually don’t know how/if it will cover other strains and variants

And they can still be vaccinated and a carrier

user7778 · 13/01/2021 18:29
@user7778 Then they’ll be vaccinated won’t they? Confused
Yes, but my FFS was for the continuation of the ridiculous (and frankly bullshit) narrative that only retired people are are in the priority categories

I get that you are scared but it's not helpful

CrackersDontMatter · 13/01/2021 18:42

I have been vaccinated, because of my job. I have had Covid as well but I'm not sure that is relevant now I've had the jab. Anyway I am following the rules and will continue to do so. The only difference the vaccination has made to the logistics of our family life is that now I am the one who goes out for the food shopping or to pick up meds etc. In terms of transmission, it's also safest for other people for me to be the one who goes out as I am tested three times a week.

I don't suddenly feel invincible and I'm still worried about my family getting ill. Nor would I put anyone else at risk.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/01/2021 18:49

You completely don’t get what I’m saying and are twisting things so I’ll leave you to it. Elderly people and vulnerable people aren’t the only ones getting sick, they aren’t the only ones who should be protected, they aren’t the only ones who are scared. Dh and I are both key workers with secondary school aged children. At high risk but not high enough it seems.

FallenSky · 13/01/2021 18:58

Really odd way to phrase this. Like the elderly and vulnerable act as one and the same for the non vulnerable. People who follow the rules will follow them. People who don't, won't. Same as right now. Once I've had my vaccine I will continue to do as I'm asked just like I have for the past 10 months. Can't speak for anyone else but I certainly don't feel, as a CEV person, that I owe anything to those healthier than me. I've done everything I could to lower my own risk and that of those I'm in contact with. Just like the majority of the country.

middleager · 13/01/2021 19:26

You have a point OP. I'm 48, BMI 30 and have kids at school, work etc.
I'm more concerned about Long Covid. One of my teens had Covid and it wasn't a walk in the park. Plus with new strains, I don't feel confident about the future for groups like me who fall just short of 50 and are overweight/unhealthy.

My ILs have had the vaccine and FIL is already talking about going on holiday!

GhostPepperTears · 13/01/2021 20:10

"They" rarely behave like a single hive mind controlled mass. Some people will follow rules, some will not.

Like some pp, I am CEV in a household where others are not - we will all get vaccines at different times. I'll continue to follow rules and do my best to keep myself, my loved ones and everyone else safe.

ragged · 13/01/2021 20:21

Doesn't matter what folk say on this thread... there are going to be constant stories in news media in next year of people saying "But I've had the vaccine!" as reasons why they don't need to socially distance any more. It'll be the next wave of weird inequalities... of course the vaccine won't take in some folk & then there will be wave of panic "How did I catch covid after I had the vaccine, why did no one warn me!" or even "The vaccine is fake! The govt lied to me about the vaccine protecting me!" etc.

Predictable...

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 13/01/2021 20:40

Some of you still don't get it? They won't just lift all restrictions in one go once the first priority vaccines are done.
And you can still limit your own risk if pubs open and you think its too risky don't go.
People getting vaccine will still have to follow any rules in place .

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 13/01/2021 20:41

@ragged well I would hope by next year we won't be having to still SD
Still .

Well last summer lots of people who didn’t feel particularly at risk went on holiday. What’s the difference?

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 20:48

I'm extremely clinically vulnerable, I'm hardly planning a post vaccine party. I'm looking forward to doing everything everyone else was able to do across the pandemic. Right now, I'd like to pick up my own meds from the pharmacy instead of waiting for a delivery - rock and roll!

middleager · 13/01/2021 20:51

Because international travel for the purpose of a holiday during a pandemic is not essential nor helpful to reducing the spread. But we know that already, right?

Just because you're not at risk, doesn't mean it's OK to go does it?

GintyMcGinty · 13/01/2021 20:55

Once the vulnerable are vaccinated and stop dying and needing hospitalisation then we can all get ion with life.

For most people it will just be a short grotty illness and it will become something we don't worry about.

PinkTonic · 13/01/2021 20:57

I personally think that travel during a pandemic is insane but that didn’t stop those who didn’t personally feel at particular risk from doing it anyway. I don’t see what difference it makes whether someone’s risk is reduced by youth and health or vaccine status that’s all. If you were on here bashing all those who were flying off to Spain and Greece last summer fair enough.

People, like me, who are overweight, have had nearly a year to lose weight and get healthier.
