Vaccinations

For those of us who are in the category of people who will be vaccinated last and not until the autumn - there is no guarantee that the vaccine stops transmission. Therefore we will be relying on those who are vaccinated and won't have concerns about catching it to stay at home and keep the rest of us safe. Tables turned. Will they? Won't they?

@BonnesVacances

What do you mean 'tables turned'? Confused

My DD is CV and we haven't been able to go out safely since March because of the folks not wearing masks, social distancing properly etc and our government failing to get a proper handle on Test and trace.

I mean we've been told to stay at home to protect the elderly, vulnerable etc, when they've been vaccinated, presumably they will be told to stay at home to protect others who haven't yet been vaccinated.

"Protect" you from what is likely to be a mild illness? And even if you were to get a more severe case, once the most at risk have been vaccinated there will be hospital beds available to treat you.

You're being ridiculous and I suspect you know it.

Jenasaurus · 13/01/2021 16:32

I am booked in to have my vaccination on Friday, and I will continue to SD and WFH, follow the guidelines to ensure transmission is reduced. I dont want anyone to catch this as a result of my behaviour so will continue as I am.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2021 16:35

It’s all to do with hospital pressure. Not cases

Not any more it's not - at least, not to the doom-mongers. Apparently, everyone's got to stay home as long as there's a chance of even one person being infected

Incredible really ...

MaxNormal · 13/01/2021 16:38

Yeah, who gives a fk about the 25% of people currently in hospital that are under 55, many of them previously fit and healthy

There will be a lot more capacity to treat them.

MaxNormal · 13/01/2021 16:41

presumably they will be told to stay at home to protect others who haven't yet been vaccinated.

No, once they've been vaccinated no-one will need to stay at home as they are the cohort who mostly wind up hospitalised due to catching it.
Under 18s aren't being vaccinated at all, do you want us to all stay in in case a couple of them wind up in hospital too?

GirlCrush · 13/01/2021 16:42

so the vaccinated will be allowed out swamping the shops again?

will they still be required to wear masks?

Ridiculous? I'm just working out future scenarios and how people might respond when only sections of the population are vaccinated. As a society we're quite divided over lockdown, whether schools should be open or closed, brexit etc. Just wondering whether this will also divide us. I don't have a fixed opinion (yet) so I'm not sure how I can be ridiculous.

I hope not because they won’t need to?? The unvaccinated won’t be at risk of being seriously ill?
MaxNormal · 13/01/2021 16:44

Restrictions will be lifted based on hospitalisation levels and will apply across the board. OP you know this, you're being disingenious.

LetsCombatRacism · 13/01/2021 16:45

Mmmm. So they won't care about me in a couple of months. Should I care about them now?

That’s a truly worrying mindset

Yes I know this, my question is will people comply??? Will having a vaccination change people's behaviour and make them decide to be less compliant??? Maybe, maybe not.

Eh??? What???? Er, no, just no. And would you say we're a happy, united society all with one mindset and agree on everything covid related? HmmConfused I'm just asking whether we will face further problems with the vaccine rollout. It's a legitimate question!

My dh has just received his latest sheilding letter telling him that he will be vaccinated before mid February and that even when he's fully vaccinated he must continue to shield so no he won't be swamping the shops.

Porseb · 13/01/2021 17:10

The current advice for those vaccinated is still to follow the rules on masks, social distancing and staying at home.

If you read the JCVI's reasoning for the priority vaccination groups, it's all about preventing death.

Death from Covid is highest among the 80 and older age group and those in care homes.

Vaccinating them first should bring down the death rates.

m0therofdragons · 13/01/2021 17:41

Had my vaccine the week they released it in December. I’m still working (NHS) but otherwise I’m staying home and following all the guidance. I haven’t seen my parents since the summer due to a child having to isolate over Christmas because of year group bubble.

All the way through we have been more careful than the rules allowed and we will continue after vaccination to do so for as long as necessary.

Like most households we will not be vaccinated at the same time, and some of us won't be vaccinated at all. It's likely that the over 18s won't have all had their second jab until Christmas.

The threads about "Everyone vulnerable will be vaccinated in a month and so it's over then isn't it?!" are giving me brain ache. It must be wilful stupidity at this point.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 13/01/2021 18:11

I can't believe people are still posting things like this ? No one is allowed out still and when restrictions are lifted they will be for all , if you don't feel comfortable going out still then don't .
Everyone seems to have a reason why they deserve the vaccine more than the next person, data shows elderly people are more likely to die or need hospital admission or cev etc
Where is anyone getting 25% are in hospital under 55 with no health conditions ???

The OP has a point though. All year it’s been drummed into us by the media that anyone is at risk, it’s Russian roulette for young people and long covid is dangerous.

user7778 · 13/01/2021 18:19

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

Of course not. The young work force are dispensable vs the old and vulnerable.

I feel totally and utterly let down. I’m not allowed to fear for my life so long as we vaccinate the 70+ everyone else can fend for themselves. It’s awful.

Yes, none of the vulnerable are young or working. FFS
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/01/2021 18:23

@user7778 Then they’ll be vaccinated won’t they? Confused
