Will they ban Meeting one person for Excercise?

The area i takee my daily walk isnt very safe and it feels safer to walk in a pair.
I'm really hoping they don't stop it.
I know they have to do what it takes to bring infections down and I will always comply, with the rules but I'm crossing fingers that they won't change the excercise rule.

IDepending on where a person lives, it could be unsafe for some single people to be out walking and excercising their own.

Most people I know are using it to socialise rather than exercise

Again, why does that matter? If people are out walking, that is exercising.

So many people seem to want to demonise people for the thoughtcrime of wanting to see someone for a while out walking in a totally safe way.

AlexaShutUp · 13/01/2021 17:12

Again, why does that matter?

Because they are not distancing!

And some people are abusing the bubble system by having multiple. Should be ban those too?
@TheFlis12345 - and what were you doing out and about?
Jogging. On my own. In the road, as the pairs of coffee sippers weren’t inclined to move over to let people pass safely on the pavement.

You can exercise without distancing tool. I’ve seen plenty of joggers too close to each other.

Complain about the distancing, not the fact they are not exercising to a high enough standard.

I went out for a walk with my support bubble DP at the weekend. We weren't distancing because we don't have to. How do you know whether the pairs of people you see should be distancing? Plenty could be support bubbles or people who live together.
sofiaaaaaa · 13/01/2021 17:20

To be honest I was surprised that we’re allowed to meet one other person to go for exercise together during full lockdown, but not allowed when in Tier 4.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 13/01/2021 17:23

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

How about the mental health impact on people who live on their own, being told that they're now not able to even go for a bloody walk outside with another human being

Single people can form a bubble though so can do far more than just exercise with another.

Only if they know someone who is available to be in a support bubble with them. I've seen various posters who live alone but don't have a support bubble because family and friends are either already in a bubble with someone else or are CEV so not wanting to risk a bubble or have lots of contact with others at work so too risky for the person who lives alone.
itsgettingweird · 13/01/2021 17:23

Infection rates are showing signs of dropping. Which means they may not go further with restrictions.

I may be wrong but although we know the cases from last week will overwhelm the nhs in next 1-2 weeks I think that as they are dropping it'll go back into manageable.

However it maybe they cannot cope with the rate in which they are dropping and may need it to happen quicker?

I must admit for the first time since this I'm struggling with the not knowing.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 13/01/2021 17:25

@AlexaShutUp

I hope they ban it. Most people I know are using it to socialise rather than exercise. If you live alone, you're entitled to a support bubble, so could you exercise with them?
Again, only if you have someone to bubble with.
PeasNotBeans · 13/01/2021 17:27

There is no distinction for me between exercising and socialising.

DownWhichOfLate · 13/01/2021 17:36

It’s not meeting one other person outdoors that is driving the huge infection numbers! Stop being blindsided by the government. Angry

ceeveebee · 13/01/2021 17:39

No I don’t think they will do this.

I think they will tighten what is non-essential retail. ban non-essential click and collect, and make takeaways delivery only. And possibly tighten up more on employers who are still making employees come to offices when could work from home

Isn’t that exactly what Scotland did today? They’re usually a few weeks ahead of England.

It was allowed in tier 4. Except that I was in tier 2 when my main running friend was in tier 4, so we couldn't meet.

I hope they ban it. Most people I know are using it to socialise rather than exercise. If you live alone, you're entitled to a support bubble, so could you exercise with them

Well I guess being a member of a running club skews my perception and experience somewhat, but everyone I know is using it to exercise. We can't all exercise with our households - my husband has an arthritic knee and can't run.

puffinkoala · 13/01/2021 17:41

This would have a massively larger impact than stopping people exercising with one friend outdoors.

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 13/01/2021 17:49

I hope not. I have just one person in my bubble apart from my dc. They also just have one person in their bubble and they work alone and have no other contact. One person, no family. This has been my lifeline since march although we've only met 4 times for a walk in this time. The closest I've got to anyone is in a supermarket, where people are idiots. So now I go 45 mins before closing at 21:15 when it's empty. I'm chronically lonely and it's the only thing that's keeping me sane. I already feel like I'm slipping this time round. I see people flouting rules all the time. These types always will, no matter what. While they make the rest of us suffer.

PurpleDaisies · 13/01/2021 17:54

They can’t have another bubble if they’re in one with you. Confused
Am I reading that wrong?

Exactly! They are always one step ahead!

I really hope they don’t ban it. I go for early morning runs down dark country lanes with my friend (with a sensible 2m gap before anyone starts) , I would not feel comfortable doing this alone and it’s the only thing that is keeping me sane right now! Can’t go in daylight hours (at least not on weekdays) as also working full time and juggling homeschooling two primary aged DC with DH.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/01/2021 18:14

It’s already banned in Wales.

I think this is to stop the leisurely stroll with a hot drink brigade, so I do agree with it, but it restricts where I feel safe to run alone in the dark (it’s dark by time I get home form work 5 days a week)

Underhisi · 13/01/2021 18:18

Stopping exercising with one person will be difficult to police because any two people exercising together could be in a couple or support bubble.

Msmcc1212 · 13/01/2021 18:20

Can’t in Wales anyway.

ragged · 13/01/2021 18:24

Fattest country in Europe so let's make exercise even less appealing to the populace -- woohoo, great idea ... NOT.

Cattitudes · 13/01/2021 18:29

@TheFlis12345

The amount of people round my way who ‘exercise’ while carrying a coffee, strolling along at a snails pace and chatting is astounding!
Let's be tolerant of each other. A friend and I walk every week, we are trying to lose weight and sometimes it can be hard when you just start walking to walk quickly but our weight and risk of covid is steadily dropping. It may look to others like a snails pace and chatting but we are getting a little faster each week, and fewer stops, fewer pauses in the conversation to catch a breath. We don't have coffees and we do mainly talk about work (we work together too but wfh), but you wouldn't know that unless you were close to us.
