Nursery closed, positive test

MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 20:55

So today our nursery closed due to member of staff testing positive. We are all quite shocked as staff member had no symptoms. Weve all had tests and await results. Its very scary being so close to home.
We had parents having a go saying they thought we were safe! Just this really, we are not safe!

Well nursery staff have been saying this all along but if you had read some of the replies on here a lot of parents still choose not to believe it.

mynameiscalypso · 12/01/2021 21:12

Our nursery has a suspected case in the staff too - luckily the timing means that the member of staff hasn't had any close contact with any of the children recently. She caught it from her housemate. The only other case they had last term was a staff member who caught it from her boyfriend.

ScissorsBike · 12/01/2021 21:12

I mean, you were shocked? It's the middle of a pandemic. One in fifty people currently have covid. It's hardly shocking.

AutoIncorrect · 12/01/2021 21:13

We had 20 staff test positive in the last week of term.

Badgerstmary · 12/01/2021 21:14

I’m not surprised your nursery is closed. Probably caught from an asymtomatic child.

MyNameForToday1980 · 12/01/2021 21:15

1 in 50 on a good day @scissorsbike nearer 1 in 15-30 in London.

It's just waxing to me we've had zero (known) cases at DD's nursery (75 kids, 20 staff).

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/01/2021 21:16

Why shocked - covid is running rampant everywhere. Or this just a thread to say all nurseries need to close.

MyNameForToday1980 · 12/01/2021 21:16

Waxing... = 'amazing'

Gooseygoosey12345 · 12/01/2021 21:16

I don't really understand the shock, many people are asymptomatic. But parents were having a go? Are they for real?

wonderstuff · 12/01/2021 21:17

I don't understand why you were shocked? Schools are closed because of a pandemic. There was always a risk in sending a child to nursery that they would pick up an infection, but children are at very little risk of serious illness and most younger adults are also at quite a low risk of significant harm. Covid isn't fun in your 20s/30s/40s, but its rarely very serious.

I know it's a scary time and I hope you'll all be ok. But, if you only found out today and then took tests today, remember that the test is unlikely to show up if you or you DC does have covid as it's too early to tell. So if your DC has been told to isolate, then a negative test won't stop the need to do that. Sorry if you're aware of the above! Good luck Thanks
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/01/2021 21:20

Your parents (customers) are being very unreasonable.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/01/2021 21:21

Also, testing today doesn't mean you don't all have to isolate. All contacts of the positive staff member over the 48 hours before they tested must isolate for 10 days.

MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 21:53

I guess i am shocked because we are a small nursery of 9 members of staff. Got asked to go for a test if we chose yesterday which 4 members of staff did, all came back negative apart from 1. Today the rest of us have a test and closed. Its just not a nice feeling. All our children have been going to school as keyworker children.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/01/2021 21:56

Are you all isolating?

JengaJanga · 12/01/2021 21:58

Is this for real?

You thought a Early years setting was safe?

You are shocked because the member of staff had no symptoms???????

We are 10 MONTHS into this.

Im SHOCKED by people who are clueless

1 IN 3 PEOPLE WILL HAVE NO SYMPTOMS

MabelMoo23 · 12/01/2021 21:59

My DD’s nursery is currently closed due to a Covid outbreak. Children self isolating

We didn’t send her as I’m home on furlough and DD1 is homeschooling so thought we’d keep DD2 at home. Did wonder if I was overreacting because it’s a nursery, it’s safe innit???

Er no it would seem not. So glad we listened to our gut instinct and kept her home.

Feel for nursery staff, they should all be closed!!!!

JengaJanga · 12/01/2021 22:00

IF you wanted a test?

You all have to isolate for 10 days regardless!!! And need to remain closed

Spacemonkey2016 · 12/01/2021 22:01

Baffled by the response by the parents! My DCs nursery has been shut 3 times since December due to covid. Couldn't imagine getting cross about that. I hope your colleague is better soon.

MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:02

JenagJanga thats my problem, parents think its safe to send children into nursery and it clearly isnt safe! Some parents have come back and said they thought is was safe to send children back, of course we knew it wasnt safe but we had to remain open!
I AM DEFINATLY NOT CLUELESS THANK YOU

OP posts:
MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:03

Janga again weve all now had to test....

OP posts:
MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:04

and obviously have to shut!

OP posts:
Wingingit15 · 12/01/2021 22:08

You get though you still have to isolate even if test returns negative if you’ve been in close contact with the person who was positive?!. The test only captures a result at the time it was taken and you can be incubating for the 10 day period. A negative doesn’t mean you don’t need to isolate

JengaJanga · 12/01/2021 22:10

You say you arent clueless but you said

‘We are shocked, because she had no symptoms’

So you obviously are clueless because 1 in 3 will have NO SYMPTOMS

and again you said ‘3 of us chose to have the test’

Make up your mind!!!!

Regardless of tests, you all have to isolate for 10 days

emma8t4 · 12/01/2021 22:15

I don’t know if it might make you feel better but my mil (who is our childcare) tested positive after we all came down with what we thought was a head cold. Out if 4 of us at home only my dp has tested positive and he had one day on the couch.

His 2kids who live with their mum have had it but his ex’s hasn’t.

My mil tested positive but my sil and niece who she lives with hasn’t.

So hopefully you’ll be ok.
