Nursery closed, positive test

MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 20:55

So today our nursery closed due to member of staff testing positive. We are all quite shocked as staff member had no symptoms. Weve all had tests and await results. Its very scary being so close to home.
We had parents having a go saying they thought we were safe! Just this really, we are not safe!

@MyLifeNow20 I think people are misunderstanding you Flowers.
No, you're right. Of course it isn't safe. I think the government have kept early years settings open to try and protect the economy more than anything.
I am a parent of kids in Y6 and y9. The high school my DS was at had to close 3 whole year groups just before Easter. The primary had (unlike high school) had one case all term, but 10 reported cases over Christmas and loads of kids had to isolate. It wasn't safe.
Hopefully once lockdown has gone on a few weeks it will be safer for you guys. But the parents are unreasonable assuming it is safe!

MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:22

Excuse me Jenga, I am not clueless its just a very big shock because its so close to home. She had no symptoms, its bloody scary.
OBVIOUSLY I know I have to isolate but my children dont! We are all isolating hence the close.

What I trying to get at is its very close to home now which we neevr thought it would be, I lost my uncle last week to Covid. My child has been going to school because im a keyworker and its ridiclouis because quite clearly nurseries are not safe!

Mabelmoo ive always thought it was unfair we stay open. Now I realise the risk, we are so close tothose children everyday, caring for their needs. My work collegue has somehow tested postive

whippettiger · 12/01/2021 22:35

“ parents think its safe to send children into nursery and it clearly isnt safe!”

Nowhere is 100% safe from the risk of a COVID case at the moment but nurseries are generally seeing less cases than other environments like schools / offices.

There’s zero evidence to say this came from a child, it could just as easily have come from one of the staff.

So why are you shocked? What’s the purpose of your post? Do you think any business / place which has a positive case should shut? That the entire sector across the UK should shut?

JengaJanga · 12/01/2021 22:37

My work colleague has ‘somehow’ tested positive

The same as 60,000 others!!!!

MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:37

whippet thats very harsh of you.
I wonder if you have children in the Early Years that are attending the setting?

OP posts:
IndecentFeminist · 12/01/2021 22:38

I'm not sure what the point of this is, why are you so shocked that you know someone who has tested positive? It's hardly rare at the moment?

MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:39

One parent literally said to us they thought our setting was safe and how could we do this to their child?
Ranting and swearing down the phone they canr believe weve put their child through this when we are meant to be safe

Morons! If there’s a case at my daughters nursery then it is what it is; same way as if I catch it from the supermarket, I would never ever blame the staff
JengaJanga · 12/01/2021 22:42

That parent is obviously clueless !

So many clueless people on covid threads!

Does parent think that the person who tested positive caught it because they broke the rules or something? That's the only reason I can see to be annoyed. Otherwise, it is what it is.
MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:47

So im sorry Jenga I am not cluless.
Its just too close to comfort for me now which makes me very anxious especially when we have done all we can for those children and get a reponse like that from parents!

OP posts:
MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:48

It defiantly it is what it is. I dont think shes broken the rules at all

OP posts:
CheshireSplat · 12/01/2021 22:51

I don't know how to quote a previous post, but I imagine the ranting parent is worried about how they are going to work and is directing their anger and frustration at the wrong target.

MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 22:53

This parent doesnt work!

OP posts:
Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 12/01/2021 22:54

But staff and children at nursery are not solely in that setting. You all obviously leave and go to homes with potentially other people who leave the house too or go to shops etc
You or the parents dont know where the covid came from at all. Could be in nursery, could be home, could be so.eone with symptoms or without
But I think you need to calm down and stop panicking

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 12/01/2021 22:56

Evidence suggests that transmission of asymptomatic child to adult is extremely rare. Statistically, the nursery worker is likely to have caught it from another adult either in the setting or in the household.

Also flummoxed that staff / parents seem to have been under the impression that the setting was immune to any risk. Most adults appear to understand that managing this involves a balance of risks and benefits and it is a difficult but necessary line to walk.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 12/01/2021 22:59

@JengaJanga

Is this for real?

You thought a Early years setting was safe?

You are shocked because the member of staff had no symptoms???????

We are 10 MONTHS into this.

Im SHOCKED by people who are clueless

1 IN 3 PEOPLE WILL HAVE NO SYMPTOMS

This is basically what I was going to say. Why are people still shocked by this. Its common Knowledge that loads of people are asymptomatic, how can it be shocking?

I'm in a primary school and I wouldn't even entertain any parents having a go over a positive case like this.

We are all doing the best we can. Asymptomatic cases are making it even harder for everyone.

They shouldn't have sent their kid to nursery then... and they know it!
MyLifeNow20 · 12/01/2021 23:08

but nursery is open to everyone!

OP posts:
Remmy123 · 12/01/2021 23:10

@MyLifeNow20 staff member couid have got it anywhere - shops / family member ?

No point you all having tests you have to self isolate and test if symptoms.

Tanith · 12/01/2021 23:14

Hope you're OK, Op. It must have been a tremendous shock for you.

I hope your setting manager will be contacting the parent to tell them their behaviour is unacceptable. There's no excuse for it.

BrummyMum1 · 12/01/2021 23:31

People are giving you a hard time but I know lots of people who are feeling safe and secure who haven’t have anyone close to them who have got covid or become seriously ill. Once you do then it’s a wake up call and shit starts to feel very real.

MoirasRoses · 12/01/2021 23:32

Our nursery have had 3x cases along staff. Zero among children astonishingly although I suspect asymptomatic. Why are you surprised? Luckily our nursery has never had to close as the staff members hadn’t been in nursery 48 hours prior to their tests.

It’s going to be in nurseries 🤷🏼‍♀️ No workplace is secure, particularly ones with toddlers in it! Most likely you’ll be fine, don’t panic.
