How long did it take you to feel fully over it... if you do

I'm on day 12 of symptoms. Nothing seems to be changing. Still coughing. Still very tired. But feel guilty that I am not doing more

According to what I could find on the Zoe app:-

  • 15% still have symptoms after 4 weeks
  • 10% still have symptoms after 8 weeks
  • 5% still have symptoms after 12 weeks - these would be the Long Coviders.

And the NHS wesbite on recovery from Covid says in most cases the fatigue resolves in 2-3 weeks.

I just don't know what to expect.... and I know you can't tell me. What's your experience?

I've never been so bad I couldn't get out of bed... although I am keen to get into it earlier than usual, as well as having a little snooze in the afternoon. Which I think I'm due now. Because I've done some fruitful work (2 phone calls and an email) and now I'm knackered.

8 days (I have asthma but not had symptoms for years). I have been taking multivitamins to boost immune system and vitamin D3 since March though.

Dogatetheleftovers · 12/01/2021 16:59

Hi Confused was that 8 days from starting to feel ill? Sorry if I’m being a bit dense maybe but I’m only on day 2 and feel so awful already. Like you I have asthma and I’ve been taking vitamin D long term. I’m so scared.

U8myufo · 12/01/2021 17:12

Roughly 2 months from first symptoms

PuzzledObserver · 12/01/2021 17:38

Thanks, @legalseagull, I’ll keep that in mind if I get to 4 weeks and it’s still as bad.

Dogatetheleftovers yes the first 5 days were awful, I'm pretty sure it went to my kidneys. The turning point for me was day 7 but I got up suddenly and had a dizzy spell so I carried on taking it easy. Day 8 I was back to normal. I did use a pulse oximeter to check on my oxygen levels and heart rate, used zinc and vitamin c lozenges for the sore throat, slept on my front, ate very plain food and drank loads of cool boiled water. I also kept doing nasal washes with water. And rested as much as I could near an open window (DCs had to have movie night every night 😬). I also took an antibiotic as originally I thought I had a UTI.

girlofthenorth · 12/01/2021 17:55

@Dogatetheleftovers hey hope you're ok, I'm on your other thread. It is really scary. I can't even remember how I got through the early days , I think chatting on MN helped a lot !

I'm 26 days now from onset of symptoms. I'm just starting to feel better chest wise ( 2 lots of antibiotics and 1 lot of steroids - am asthmatic so also upped my dose of inhaler ) .

But, I'm still so so tired . Some days I can function and do a few jobs but then I have a day where I'm busy like yesterday and have not been able to do anything today . Really struggling with sleeping and having to take some half days at work .
Had the same long fatigue last year when I was severely unwell with a chest infection . Luckily I have 2 part time jobs and one is very quiet because of lockdown , so I can pace myself a bit .
I'm a big dog walker and was half way through C25k when I got sick. Now am tired after a short walk ! Hoping is going to get easier .....my DD 20 already has CFS and she can't even walk down the road atm .

opinionatedfreak · 12/01/2021 17:56

Day 15 here.

Improving but still very tired. Off work (HCP) as going back gradually not possible (Covid ICU is busy!!)

Appetite came back today. And stuff no longer tastes vile (never lost my sense of taste).

Still coughing.

I’ve done quite a bit today relatively speaking and am worried I’ll be shattered tomorrow which has been the case previously after a good day.

Egghead68 · 12/01/2021 18:01

7.5 months. Get well soon.

Dogatetheleftovers · 12/01/2021 18:42

girlofthenorth I feel so sorry for you having this and thanks for following my other thread. I do sympathise with your dd, CFS can wreck lives from personal experience. Please tell her to take care, which I’m sure she already is. I hope that you both have now properly started to turn a corner and getting stronger and stronger.
Ehhhead68 Seven and a half months!!! I have no words for you. 💐

Dogatetheleftovers · 12/01/2021 18:43

Sorry egghead68 not ehhhead !

Coming up for 10 months and I'm still not back to full fitness. Better than I was but it has been a long, slow journey and I have no idea if I will every actually get back to what I was before covid.

Oh goodness, that must be exhausting. Hope things turn a corner soon.
SunnyNights · 12/01/2021 20:00

Took around three weeks for me, although still have the cough six weeks on - it's more annoying than anything though.

I didn't have it that bad but the tiredness really dragged on, the worst symptom I found.

OneMoreForExtra · 12/01/2021 20:13

Interesting thread.

Day 20 here, keep thinking I'm through it and then exhausted. Concentration issues, intermittent dizziness, lungs feel sore and kind of raw still generally achey and still coughing, although now dry cough. Sense of taste/smell has been mostly back for a week. Wasn't terribly ill although did feel proper grotty for 10 days.

Dogatetheleftovers · 12/01/2021 21:14

Can I just ask if it’s normal to have lower o2 levels after exertion? I dragged myself to the shower as I felt so grotty. But afterwards I felt breathless and used the oximeter. It read 86 initially but with some effort in breathing deeper I managed to get it to 95/6. Is this normal? I haven’t been using the oximeter today so I’ve got nothing to compare.

Egghead68 · 12/01/2021 21:52

I don’t know but I am pretty sure 86 after minor exertion is abnormal (but was your finger wet and not connecting well?) Do keep an eye on it and get medical help if you need it.

danro · 12/01/2021 21:59

It’s been almost 3 months since I tested positive and I’m still not right. Lying here as we speak in so much pain with the muscle aches/burning in my legs. It can get so bad it brings tears to my eyes sometimes!

Much better since Christmas than what I was generally, back to working FT and functioning more normally i.e not sleeping a ridiculous amount as I was doing within the first month or so.

I’m hoping one of the last symptoms of the leg pain starts improving soon too as it can really get you down 3 months on. Other things that are hanging around are breathlessness, insomnia (but also feeling very fatigued) and some dizziness.

Kitten11x · 12/01/2021 22:13

6 weeks in and I’m not better . About 80percent better through. I still get achey joints and sore lungs / wheezing .

caffeinebuzz · 12/01/2021 22:19

I had it last Spring, and while I recovered for day to day activity within 3ish months, if I get a slight cold or start to get run down it hits me way harder than usual and I struggle to do very much without feeling breathless. Hoping my immune system will get stronger again with time!

2020out · 12/01/2021 22:25

Just under a month for me. 1 week really unpleasant with breathing difficulties but not severe, then slow progress for 2 weeks and totally over it now. It really hits different people in different ways.

I hope you're all well soon.

amyj606 · 12/01/2021 22:56

I'm approaching 3 months since testing positive. I've got a weird feeling when I breathe like a ruttle or flutter, tight chest and a weird dry feeling in my throat and my heart rates still all over the place. I am however managing longer walks and small amounts of exercise. I've got follow ups with the asthma nurse and doctors next week to go over my asthma plan and weird symptoms

GandalfTheNoble · 13/01/2021 02:13

I keep describing the aftermath of Covid to others as being like having Multiple Sclerosis (I have/had both).

The complete exhaustion is exactly the same.

I'm day 17. Still have the cough and lack of taste and smell.

lovelemoncurd · 13/01/2021 02:46

The fatigue and tiredness didn't go until 5 months later.

My chest pain I still have

I have cycles of joint pain every month or so.

It's been bloody awful!

lovelemoncurd · 13/01/2021 02:49

@Dogatetheleftovers that oxygen saturation is not good. 96% and above is acceptable. I would 1. Make sure your equipment is working

  1. Get checked out at your gp practice.
lovelemoncurd · 13/01/2021 02:52

@Dogatetheleftovers sorry just noticed you are confirmed Covid- get checked out at the hospital. ( my background is respiratory nursing) your oxygen sats are too low.
