Anyone else tired of being on furlough now?

Just that really. I enjoy working and am starting to feel like my brain is turning into a marshmallow with lack of workplace stimulation.

I’ve tried to do different things at home but I’m starting to just feel rather “meh” with the whole situation

Anyone else fed up of furlough?

No furlough bashers please. That’s not what this thread is about.

Yes, furloughed in March (who wasn’t), went back for a few months over the summer but now been furloughed again for three months and likely to go back end of feb earliest. Totally fed up, I know I’m safe at home and I’m grateful for that but totally understand what you mean. Don’t know what day it is most of the time!

Number37 · 10/01/2021 16:48

@GrapefruitGin I’m glad it’s not just me! I like working, I like my team and I miss the office atmosphere.

I too was off from March until August, went back, off again through November, went back, now off again until who knows when!

Could you volunteer ? Community or hospital based - lots of help needed.

UghNotThisAgain36 · 10/01/2021 16:49

Absolutely done in with it tbh. I'm only on part-time furlough, but I have had to change job role to wfh due to homeschooling. I may not even get my original job back. Its better than doing nothing though.

Most of my colleagues are still furloughed after going back for a few months in late summer. I hate the way furloughed workers get bashed. Its not like we don't want to be at work and at my workplace we are not allowed to take other employment.

Number37 · 10/01/2021 16:50

@UghNotThisAgain36 I’m not allowed additional employment either Confused

Lots of hospitals looking for runners - things like stocking up. Just a suggestion.

GreenApplesYo · 10/01/2021 16:54

Yeah me too. Was off March - Dec. Worked through Dec and now I'm off again. I've been volunteering in a wfh role for a charity, but it's not the same as working full time. I do feel lucky to still have a job to go back to, so I'm not really complaining, more just very much looking forward to a return to 'normality'. Work is what gave my life structure.

Pomegranatespompom · 10/01/2021 16:55

We’ve a little network where I live - people collecting prescriptions etc too people have found it really helps break up the day.

Shaniac · 10/01/2021 16:57

I am. Furloughed from 1st part time job in march. Returned for literally 2 days in December as they are trying to sack me (been bullied for years there.). Furloughed from 2nd job i took on whilst on furlough for 1st job. Now im sick of being stuck inside and in debt unlike lots of people saving money, circumstances out of my control mean we are now in debt supporting 2 households. So i am looking at jobs now and am considering trying to be a self employed cleaner if i can work out how to do the taxes.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 10/01/2021 16:58

I would rather be on furlough than trying to work and homeschool at the same time. But I can see how it must be boring and stressful not knowing what's happening long term.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 10/01/2021 17:04

Yes and no.
Yes for the same reasons as you, I miss work, the team, the office, the adult conversation etc.
No, because I have an 18 month old son, although we've been mainly on lockdown since March (I literally returned and 3 weeks later was furloughed), I've been able to be with him and witness milestones that I would have otherwise missed.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 10/01/2021 17:06

Why are you not allowed other employment - or voluntary work?

I'd give my eye teeth for furlough. I would never be bored.

garlictwist · 10/01/2021 17:20

I love it! It's like being retired. Lots of pottering, I have read so many books, done loads of exercise, taken naps. It's the dream. I really don't want to go back.

emmaluggs · 10/01/2021 17:23

Yes I was on maternity leave then furloughed, it’s looking likely I’ll be furloughed until the scheme ends to which I would have had about 2 years out of work 😳. I’ve been glad of the extra time with the children. I think it’s some normality I’m craving as opposed to going back to work.

Pomegranatespompom · 10/01/2021 18:09

I’d love a few weeks of furlough - my favourite things are pottering and reading. I’ve no chance though (nhs).

BrokenCircle · 10/01/2021 18:11

What about the NHS volunteer responders, or a local foodbank?

I’ll swap for a bit, if it helps. I’m not looking forward to mixing with staff and students at school tomorrow.

whatisforteamum · 10/01/2021 20:11

I still love it.I realise the 12 he days I was doing were punishing. Now I can cook chill read learn new skills. My life before was that of a workaholic.Still a while until I retire this is good practice though in the absence of choice.

Paperyfish · 10/01/2021 20:16

I guess it’s just as well I’m furloughed as the kids need homeschooling and I am rubbish at it even with out my own job to attend to. I do love my job though and miss it a lot. I’ll be on mat leave come may- so won’t be back there for ages. Furlough without homeschool/ kids might be more enjoyable! When the schools went back I was using hs as a threat I.e. get your shoes in or we’ll back late again and then they’ll make us homeschool! You don’t want that, do you!” And they’d rush to be out of the door! Backfired now of course 😂

TheSpottedZebra · 10/01/2021 20:20

WhT do you all do that you have been furloughed so long?

Parker231 · 10/01/2021 20:21

One of my friends has been furloughed since March and is totally bored now. She has recently volunteered to help with the vaccine rollout and is now helping to direct everyone where to stand and queue when they turn up. She is enjoying it as it is giving her something meaningful to do and she gets to be with people throughout the day.

Katie517 · 10/01/2021 20:34

Not furloughed but on maternity leave since August. Aug-nov I loved it lots of activities and meet ups with other mums and friends (tier 1 area) now i am enjoying being with my little girl but the lack of activity/ things to do is mind numbing thankfully I worked right up to going on mat leave or I would have been going mad by now I think. All those people saying they love pottering there is only so much postering you can do surely?

Maverickess · 10/01/2021 20:35

I was furloughed March to July. Apart from the financial ramifications that I'm still facing now (loss of overtime was the main problem. It kept me afloat) I enjoyed the first few weeks of "getting things in order" and then..... Well just worried about my job and my financial situation.
I went back and hated every moment, people treated us like shit and used the "You should be grateful you got furlough and have a job" to justify it.
I was verbally abused, pushed out the way, threatened and more for asking people to adhere to the covid rules that we'd had to put in place by law.
I changed jobs, lucky to be able to do that really because I had the experience behind me.
I'm still fairly new to this position, and it's an essential role that can't stop. Financially it's obviously much better, but comes with it's own set of worries and issues too.
On balance I prefer this, but I'm still new to it so it may be because of that, many of my colleagues have a bit of fatigue with it all now, I've not got that yet.
I did volunteer through the first lockdown but appreciate now that those opportunities are not necessarily available.

HedgieHog · 10/01/2021 20:38

I’d love a few weeks furlough got so many jobs to do at home!
I don’t know anyone on furlough this time, everyone’s back at work (or was made redundant) it’s business as usual for us (though wfh)
