The Met Police said: 'We are aware of the images. A local investigation is underway to identify the officers and establish the full circumstances.

'Our officers are responsible for enforcing Covid related legislation and it is important that any allegations of breaches by our own staff are properly investigated and the appropriate action taken.'

And?

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 14:45

Cracking down on people sitting on benches or walking in a park but they are allowed to eat a meal in a cafe?

Froth, froth, foam, gnashing of tea, ‘what about.....?!?!?’

This will keep everyone going all afternoon.

Armi · 10/01/2021 14:48

*teeth, not tea!

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 14:49

In case you haven’t noticed, we are in a global pandemic.

The police don’t do themselves a lot of favours at times. They also love going after a bit of low hanging fruit.

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 14:50

How many grannies have they murdered by doing this?

You're not allowed to criticise the police, even when they're being hypocritical, power-abusing bullies.

Ridcully82 · 10/01/2021 14:56

Not to pour common sense on this potential bile fest, but "the police" have hundreds of thousands of people from a cross section of society:a couple of idiots breaking the rules doesn't damn the while lot

I haven't got the energy for all the frothing required on here at the moment.

That's disgraceful! They should be arrested and then hung in the town square!

I think unless there's actual heads on spikes it doesn't show that it's been taken seriously enough personally.

Its the hypocrisy that chokes.
I am in the North. I took two dogs 1.5miles in the car this mo4ning tomthe beach, at 5:30 am
We do this every day, summer and winter. We see the same dogs and walkers every morning, and the humans shout 'morning' across the sands, while the dogs run.
I am always there from about 5:30 - 6:30.
At 6:20 this morning I was cautioned by police not to come back. As were the other early morning beach walkers.
To be clear this is an incredibly wide beach, even when the tide is in. Humans never come within 10m of each other. The car park is huge and abandoned. There were 4 police cars in it this morning, which doubled the numbers.
Yesk I could walk to the beach, along unlit roads with no pavements. Or I could walk from the house, along with 27 gazillion dog owners around me ( i live adjacent to a country park that is rammed with people all day long).
I took the decision to safely drive to the beach, very early morning to take my daily exercise and avoid contact with others. But the police say I cant. But they can eat in a cafe????
No.
Dont give a toss if they were sent from heaven. The hypocrisy stinks.

And I apologise for the typos 😶

Heartlantern2 · 10/01/2021 15:08

Maybe the photo was taken ages ago?

Was the cafe not shut and for takeaway only? Our have all the chairs on the tables.

It's the Daily Mail, so it's highly possible it's not up to date.

Posters on Mumsnet attacked for going to a supermarket with partner or child - no law against that. Police officers breaking the law is frothing.

Interesting.

But they're not allowed. They're being investigated.

Posting a link to a story in the Daily Mail about police wrong doing? of course people will start frothing.

It was hugely unwise, and clearly not legal. Although in their defence most likely they were the only people there and as colleagues in a profession where you can’t socially distance unlikely to have added any additional risk.

I also don’t agree with the police arresting or fining people who haven’t broken the law (only guidance- or rather the police interpretation of guidance!).

They will probably be rightly sanctioned, but it’s more public perception that’s at issue than any real risk.

StatisticalSense · 10/01/2021 15:56

It looks bad at first glance but surely they wouldn't be this stupid. I wonder if there has been a local arrangement for officers to use the building when awaiting calls so that they are not crowded into an undersized area at the station in which they couldn't social distance.
