'Our officers are responsible for enforcing Covid related legislation and it is important that any allegations of breaches by our own staff are properly investigated and the appropriate action taken.'

@Funkypolar

In case you haven’t noticed, we are in a global pandemic.
Are we? Thanks for informing me.
Covidcovid · 10/01/2021 16:24

Work canteens are allowed. So I wonder if the police have asked this cafe to stay open to act as a second canteen allowing the officers to spread over two canteens and be more socially distanced. 🤷‍♀️

@Funkypolar

Cracking down on people sitting on benches or walking in a park but they are allowed to eat a meal in a cafe?
Well no, that’s why the alleged incident is being investigated.
AnguaResurgam · 10/01/2021 16:43

They haven't been allowed - the incident is being investigated and action will be taken

Which is more that what happened to that twat 'make your own decisions' Cummings

Justice has been served @Funkypolar, not heads on spikes but fines...

Why weren't they in a countryside car park making sure no one drives for exercise (the most dangerous activity with the highest risk of virus transmission requiring utmost policing efforts).

supercatpowers · 20/01/2021 14:39

BTW Only people in my road driving to exercise their dogs and kids are the police officers family.

Purplethrow · 20/01/2021 14:43

How many grannies have they murdered by doing this

🙄

Do people not understand that "the police" is actually many thousands of individuals? Some good, some bad. Of course you will get some who break rules and some who are over-zealous in dealing with those who go against government guidance. As in all large organisations, breeches are investigated and appropriate action taken.

It appears it has.

I would be more willing to accept it was a couple of bad eggs if the police hadn't started inventing laws about driving for exercise and fining people for crimes that don't exist.

The Guidance specifically says you can travel a short distance for exercise, e.g. to access an open space) and as pp demonstrates, the police are fining people for doing something they are expressly allowed to do.

This is lazy policing. There is a real law about face coverings, not to mention indoor mixing (which these officers were doing themselves), real laws that the police are reluctant to enforce.

Just seen a news report: the investigation has concluded, and all officers have been issued with a £200 fixed penalty for breach of covid rules

SquirmOfEels · 20/01/2021 18:45

Ignore my extremely tardy post....

Well behind the curve today!

@Ratched

Its the hypocrisy that chokes. I am in the North. I took two dogs 1.5miles in the car this mo4ning tomthe beach, at 5:30 am We do this every day, summer and winter. We see the same dogs and walkers every morning, and the humans shout 'morning' across the sands, while the dogs run. I am always there from about 5:30 - 6:30. At 6:20 this morning I was cautioned by police not to come back. As were the other early morning beach walkers. To be clear this is an incredibly wide beach, even when the tide is in. Humans never come within 10m of each other. The car park is huge and abandoned. There were 4 police cars in it this morning, which doubled the numbers. Yesk I could walk to the beach, along unlit roads with no pavements. Or I could walk from the house, along with 27 gazillion dog owners around me ( i live adjacent to a country park that is rammed with people all day long). I took the decision to safely drive to the beach, very early morning to take my daily exercise and avoid contact with others. But the police say I cant. But they can eat in a cafe???? No. Dont give a toss if they were sent from heaven. The hypocrisy stinks.
I’d be tempted to print off the actual law (not guidance) and ask them on my return tomorrow which bit you were breaking.

@oneglassandpuzzled
I actually started going back after a couple of days.
On Sunday, a Police car pulled up beside me in the car park. As we both got out of the car at the same time I asked if I was in trouble. He laughed and asked me why, what had I been up to?
When I said, 'well, driving to exercise', he just said 'Daybreak, deserted beach, dogs. Cant see a problem with that, just dont come back at lunchtime'.
Apparantly they were turning people back from about 10am (Sunday was a lovel sunny day here), so it seems that even within the same force, it comes down to personal opinion.
No police presence there since.

oneglassandpuzzled · 21/01/2021 08:21

I’m so pleased to hear this!

I'm confused. I thought you said it was this morning? Has it happened twice?

Ratched · 21/01/2021 10:41

@ancientgran

I am confused about what you're confused about Confused

ancientgran · 21/01/2021 11:01

Sorry I wasn't looking at the dates you posted, I read them today and being half asleep read them as if both posted today.

I shouldn't post before coffee.
