Hoping the video attaches.

And if they're not allowed to sit on a bench. Tape them off!

The world has gone mad

Is this the Bournemouth pier video?
If it is some things to consider.. there were organised demonstrations in the town with people coming from Bognor Regis demanding answers about cover ups and why if there are so many deaths have they not seen a single hearse in months Hmm

Also, the arrests were made because the people being spoken to by police refused to give their name or details so the police could issue them with a warning or a fine.

No one was arrested for "sitting on a bench"

SquirtleSquad · 10/01/2021 02:06

My point about the demonstration meant to include that this is why there were soo many police present in the video. They marched from town hall, through the gardens and down towards the pier.

MercyBooth · 10/01/2021 02:33

Oh my bad. They were going to fine her for sitting on a bench rather than arrest her. Thats okay then.

Community relations are now gone i should imagine

SquirtleSquad · 10/01/2021 02:40

I didn't say it was okay did I?

And no they weren't fining her for sitting on a bench either.

They were going to fine her because they had given her a verbal warning earlier in the day in a different part of town about a separate breach and anti social behaviour and then again in the same day for a different incident.

I'm not agreeing with the action taken but there's a lot more to it than a tiny snapshot video and people saying someone was arrested for just sitting on a bench isn't helping anything.

WanderingMilly · 10/01/2021 03:08

There was an interesting discussion on BBC news the other day, the interviewee pointed out that 'exercise' was walking or jogging etc., possibly with one other person. However, the moment you sit on a bench with your companion, possibly even drinking a coffee, you aren't exercising, you are 'socialising' and it's the socialising they are wanting to stop. Sat chatting, you are more likely to spread/catch any possible virus. I could understand the thinking in that...

Someone stopping for a moment to sit down, alone, while they catch their breath, doesn't appear to be the same. But I suppose if they are sitting for a while they need to be moved on as it's no longer exercise.

I feel sad for people in London, pictures on the TV show hundreds of people still out in parks, it looks as busy as a summer's day, hardly a lockdown. With so many crowds, I can see the police need to keep folk moving.

Out here it looks like a proper lockdown, the roads are empty and on my rural walks....I think I walked 5 miles yesterday and I did see one dog walker in the distance at one point. No-one else....

SquirtleSquad · 10/01/2021 03:17

But the issue here wasn't sitting on a bench, being out for exercise or having a rest.

These people had travelled from Southampton (including the woman filming), Bognor Regis and other places which are not the local area, caused a nuisance in the town, "demonstrated" / protested about covid and the lockdown, gathered in a group larger than permitted within the lockdown rules, been issued with section 35 notices earlier in the day saying they had to leave the area for 48 hours, told to go home and given warnings as to what would happen if they didn't (fines or arrests).

They then chose not to and were then found to be in breach of the earlier given section 35 notices. The police tried to issue them with the fines and they refused to give their details or names so the police arrested them.

Notsure2020 · 10/01/2021 03:19

They were part of a protest group who travelled from another county. The woman who took the part-video is batshit, one look at her Facebook profile tells me all I need to know about them.

MercyBooth · 10/01/2021 03:26

havent looked at any fb profiles.

SquirtleSquad · 10/01/2021 03:32

This just goes to show how the media / social media can show a snippet of something and make their own narrative with it.
Worrying really how many people will now believe someone was arrested simply for sitting on a bench during their daily exercise. That sort of thing may or may not happen else where or in a different situation but it simply isn't the case in this instance.

avamiah · 10/01/2021 03:38

WanderingMilly,
I live in London( East London) and let me tell you that the situation is very very serious here.
It is like a ghost town.
So many people are being admitted to hospital and dying .
The Police in my opinion are doing now what they should of been doing months ago and that is keeping people from Breaking the Rules to stop the spread of this .

Bythemillpond · 10/01/2021 03:58

If neither people have it then how?

salcombebabe · 10/01/2021 04:03

What part of STAY AT HOME do people not understand 😡

NiceGerbil · 10/01/2021 04:04

Some forces seem to love this.

It's way easier to go after people who are not criminals for sitting on a bench etc and look like you're doing all this stuff

Than go after actual criminals.

Isn't DV and child abuse up during all this? Not seen what they're doing about that on the news.

My first reaction was disbelief at the heavy-handedness of the police. I’ve now read your posts I’m not disputing your account. Please tell me how you know this.

The bit where it says you can go out for work, shopping, exercise and all the other reasons.

Thank you for putting the correct narrative to this.

Guess anybody can make a story read how they want.

I think the anti-police sentiment all these threads are purposefully trying to instigate is very dangerous

Wherediditgo · 10/01/2021 08:01

Link doesn’t work for me.

However, I think this, along with women getting fined for a socially distanced walk 5 miles from where they live and police forcing entry to a house with a suspected Covid breach are all great ways to undermine the public confidence in the police force

The video didn't work, but yes generally the police do target people who are breaking the law. It's kinda their thing.

The bit that says you can go out to exercise with your household, bubble or one other person ( children under 5 and carers of disabled people aren't counted in numbers) That you can go to work if you can't work from home That you can go out for food and essentials That you can go out to volunteer That you can help a vulnerable person That you can go out to avoid risk of harm, illness or injury That you can go out for education or training Activities involved with moving and selling houses

Paraphrasing and I've probably missed out loads....
I can't remember if there's still something about being an elite sports person in there or not.

BridgertonBride · 10/01/2021 10:14

Look at the thread aboutv’organised sport’!!

Lemons1571 · 10/01/2021 10:17

There are loads of reasons you can legitimately leave your house. You can go visit burial grounds, pet supplies stores, outdoor heritage sites or travel to a bike shop to shop there. All in the guidance. Travel is supposed to be local, but if the nearest bike shop is 10 miles away in the next town then 🤷🏼‍♀️
