Anyone breastfeeding had the vaccine yet?

Just wondering if you had any side effects and if baby showed any signs of it affecting them. I'm likely to be offered it through work soon and have a 3 month old.

Yes I have - breastfeeding an 8m old and had the Pfizer vaccine 10days ago. My only side effect was a bit of an achy arm like with other vaccines. Baby has had no side effects at all. Hope that helps!

Following with interest.

iamverytired · 13/01/2021 13:48

I'm having it Friday so fingers crossed all ok!

Following. I had my vaccine today and have a two year old who is pretty much weaned, asks for it about daily but just for a couple of seconds...so I'm tempted to stop feeding for a few days...

DisneyIsMyDrug · 13/01/2021 19:54

Also following. I’m due to have mines Friday as well but I’m still unsure. I don’t know anyone else in real life who is breastfeeding & able to get the vaccine (I’m NHS).

Mummydoctor · 13/01/2021 19:55

Our GP colleague whose baby is about 10 days old and is breastfeeding had hers last week. No ill effects in her or baby.

DisneyIsMyDrug · 13/01/2021 20:01

Can I also ask out of curiosity, if given the choice of vaccine (Pfizer or AstraZeneca ) which one would you have?

GarlicMushroom · 13/01/2021 20:07

I'm a midwife, bf my 20 month old (frequently 🙄) having pfizer next week. Will report back!

Mummydoctor · 13/01/2021 20:09

I’d happily have either but had Pfizer as that’s what we’ve got available. We’re not giving patients a choice.

Dreamylemon · 13/01/2021 20:10

I'm due my this weekend ( nhs) and breastfeeding my toddler. I may use it as a push to wean as I am done after years of pregnancy/breastfeeding but I would not be worried about the effect of the vaccine on my child and would carry on if they were younger.

Subordinateclause · 13/01/2021 20:11

Are staff on maternity leave being offered the vaccine? (I know this isn't applicable to some PPs breastfeeding slightly older babies/toddlers)

Mummydoctor · 13/01/2021 20:17

Yes - we are using the ‘spare’ 6th doses from Pfizer to vaccinate our NHS staff including those who are currently on maternity leave given they’ll be coming back to work with us again soon seeing patients including covid patients.

Terrhins · 13/01/2021 20:19

I had it yesterday & am breastfeeding my toddler at night, once. She was fine last night.

I’ve got an achy arm & am feeling slightly rough but I did after the flu jab so was expecting really.

I had the Pfizer as that’s what my trust offered.

I'm on maternity leave and I have been told I can book an appt for vaccination (frontline NHS)
thelostartofkeepingsecrets · 13/01/2021 20:24

I had the Pfizer vaccine yesterday and I’m breastfeeding my 14 month old. It was a difficult choice but on balance I thought it was the safest option. I used the BMJ, WHO and NHS websites to make my decision.

I haven’t had any significant side effects, just a slightly sore arm. I haven’t seen any side effects in my son either.

Anonanon12 · 13/01/2021 20:27

My baby is 3 months old and I'm wondering about this too. Has anyone come a cross any info about breastmilk and vaccines etc. Studies that might help?

BungleandGeorge · 13/01/2021 20:39

I’m surprised those on maternity leave are being done already,

Mummydoctor · 13/01/2021 20:56

Just depends where you are. I know some areas of the country are already onto vaccinating their 70s and over. We are still on our over 80s and health care/social care workers.

Anothermother3 · 13/01/2021 21:29

I’m having it on Saturday but bfing a 1.5 year old so she’s not just feeding (although she doesn’t always get that memo). I feel quite relaxed and am just super pleased to be getting it but I might feel more anxious with a tiny baby (for no good reason OP I’m just saying I understand why you feel that).

iamverytired · 13/01/2021 21:40

Reassuring to see people have all be ok so far! I'm NHS and having Oxford jab but could have been offered either. And I'm on maternity leave - I said I didn't want to have it before frontline staff but they have rung me twice to book it in now and seem to have loads of appointments for all staff (ambulance service - doing their own jabs rather than in hospital now).

Thedutchessofhastings · 13/01/2021 22:15

I had the Pfizer jab today and am breastfeeding. As I had ticked yes to the breastfeeding question on the form, I had to speak to the doctor before having the jab and she had to sign it off. She was very relaxed about it and reassured me it was fine. My daughter is 3 and only feeds a bit at bed time and first thing in the morning, more out of habit, so I did ask if I should try not to feed for a few days and the doctor said not to worry about it and carry on feeding - unless I want to use it as an excuse to stop! 😂

LividLoving · 13/01/2021 22:37

Has the advice changed for breastfeeding and TTC?

I think I’ll be offered it soon enough but TTC too.

Iheardit · 13/01/2021 22:48

Following with interest. Bf my 3 month old vaccine booked for a months time, feeling a little worried about it

villamariavintrapp · 14/01/2021 08:10

I'm having it today-Pfizer. Breastfeeding my 10 week old a lot and 2 year old very little, she'll tell me if she notices any difference so I'll let you know. I've also emailed about the trial, but think I'm too far away and as I'm having it today guess I'd be too late now.

kwaziseyepatch · 14/01/2021 21:52

I am and had it a week ago, no ill effects with baby
