Does anyone know when it is?
With all this new talk of this current lockdown not being enough I just wondered if maybe he’d step up and say something

exactly noone listening this time i havent been to shops for ages i exercise thats it

all i can hear down the main road is cars all day last march there was silence people jsut dont care anymore

echt · 09/01/2021 20:01

@CaughtInTheCovid

I understand the pressure on the NHS and the numbers but some people are so quick to give up any liberties and freedom it’s quite scary. If makes you realise how the Nazis took power (I don’t mean this as a criticism of anyone in particular but seeing how people are quick to hop on board with new very strict rules, dob in people they feel break them and push for harsher restrictions ‘for the greater good’ is very Hitler-esque).
Oh FFS.

The Nazis didn't get into power on the ticket of giving up civil liberties.

StCharlotte · 09/01/2021 20:03

Capital punishment for my neighbour's son who despite testing positive this week went out earlier this afternoon.

JOKE!

Maybe

Seriously though, I do think multiple bubbles should be banned. Well I think they are actually. But, for example, if your Mum is your childcare bubble, she could also be your emotional support bubble.

Kazzyhoward · 09/01/2021 20:04

@GabsAlot

i dont think takeaways should close i dont see the relevance maybe just coffee shops
Takeaways are fuelling socialising and partying. People are meeting in takeaway car parks (McD's etc)., and others are getting huge orders to take (or get delivered) to their homes.
Palavah · 09/01/2021 20:06

@Lifeispassingby

I don’t think support bubbles should be taken away but they are definitely being abused and used as excuse for so much. I know people who mix twice a day with their bubble just because they can, with no regard for the fact that a bubble doesn’t mean you can’t pass the virus on
The whole point of a bubble is they're basically an extension of your household - there's no limit to how long you can see them for, or how often.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/01/2021 20:07

For people who don’t have to go out for work, why would they need more than 1 or 2 trips in the car per week, if that? Lots of people should be able to go weeks without using the car...that was the case in the first lockdown, there seems to be acceptance of much more going out now.

They might be caring for someone. If my Mum was still alive I'd be going out in the car at least once a day.

Speaking of going weeks without using the car, surely that can't do it a lot of good. Mine has been parked outside the house since before Christmas and I'm thinking it would be better to drive it than have to call out the AA when it won't start!

WombatChocolate · 09/01/2021 20:07

2 things need to happen. People need to have a clearer sense of what is happening in the hospitals....pictures of the chaos and a sense of what this means for other treatments they and their contacts might need.

And then the rules need to be tightened up and made very very explicit and law....no good making laws on things that cannot be enforced, but they will have to do things that cause economic damage like closing more businesses like garden centres, saying people can only exercise with their household, far less children in schools and nurseries, much tighter and clearer restrictions about when you can leave home and possible curfews, stronger rules on how far people can travel and mask wearing anytime out of home.

Currently, most people don’t feel they are breaking the rules. The rules are loose and open to interpretation and so people push the limits and feel entitled to do so and within the boundaries. And they don’t feel scared of Covid for themselves and so don’t really care about the figures enough for it to impact their daily lives.

StormBaby · 09/01/2021 20:09

@Kazzyhoward some of us have huge family’s at home?! It costs me between £50-£80 to get a takeaway in. There’s a lot of us. Doesn’t mean we are having a party 🙈

CrocodilesCry · 09/01/2021 20:13

There are truly too many people still taking the piss.
Our neighbours are both police officers, they're having people over in their hot tub outside and have been since Boxing Day.
My DMs neighbour is having his father and brother over to work on his house.
Someone else I know who is seeing both son and daughter and their families under the guise of having support/childcare bubbles with both and going for meals.
Multiple people I know having to self isolate after going for meals with people outside their household pre-lockdown 3 despite it being against the rules.

I wouldn't be surprise if they do stop support or childcare bubbles because so many people are taking the piss.

Lifeispassingby · 09/01/2021 20:13

@Palavah but if you are working or mixing and then surely you should be careful about going to see your bubble?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/01/2021 20:14

Obviously we have to ration how much food we order @StormBaby in case the curtain twitching busybodies think we're having a party!

We had a massive Chinese takeaway delivered tonight. We hadn't ordered from them before so didn't know what the portion sizes were like. I joked to DH the neighbours will think we're having a party... I hope they're not on here otherwise I'll get a knock on the door!

Kazzyhoward · 09/01/2021 20:14

But they're not essential are they? I can just about understand key workers etc needing a takeaway on their way to/from work due to lack of time, etc. But not at all sure why a full on family takeaway is "essential" given the seriousness of the pandemic. Most takeaways weren't open at the start of the first lockdown and people managed. A temporary closure of them for a few weeks may well drive home the message for people not to socialise and party.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/01/2021 20:16

Jesus Christ, some people won't be happy until we're all shut indoors eating bread and drinking water. There's no need to suck every last bit enjoyment out of life!

Busygoingblah · 09/01/2021 20:19

@Viviennemary

My suggestions

Masks imperative in any public place
Shops open only for essentials
No bubbles
No test no school
No mask stay indoors
Exercise outdoors only with people from your household

Otherwise they might as well not bother

So your suggestion is that anyone who lives alone, whether or thats there choice, should be completely isolated with no face to face interaction for potentially months. You realise that’s completely inhumane right?!
GabsAlot · 09/01/2021 20:19

well takeaways opened last time and the numbers came down still so i dont think thats the main point

and can people not use hitler as an reason not to go along with rules its bloody insulting

RedskyAtnight · 09/01/2021 20:20

Agree about not allowing multiple bubbles and people stretching the restrictions to the limit.

It's perfectly legal to have a support bubble, a childcare bubble, a "baby under 1" bubble and to go walking twice a day with a different person every time (where realistically, if you're chatting, you are closer to them than you think). However, the spirit of the restrictions is that we all minimise contacts, and really we should all be trying to do this.

Emmie12345 · 09/01/2021 20:21

Nobody is going to comply with this and they can’t enforce it

RedskyAtnight · 09/01/2021 20:22

BettyOBarley · 09/01/2021 20:22

I'm really surprised private and school nurseries are open to all still, I can see that changing to key workers only. There was a case in DS's nursery before Christmas and by the end of the week it was 5 kids and 3 staff.

There's no way they'll stop support bubbles.
Maybe tightening up on childcare bubbles but that's it.

minisoksmakehardwork · 09/01/2021 20:22

@cardibach - so you chose to find a loop hole, which is what lots of people are doing.

I wonder why we continue to have lockdowns?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/01/2021 20:23

I presume that would have to be plugged in? If so it won't work as I don't have a driveway.
SycamoreGap · 09/01/2021 20:26

Masks are a massive issue - at least a third of people coming in to our pharmacy today didn’t have a mask. When we ask some say they forgot or they didn’t realise, some drag something out of their pocket that looks like it has been used to clean their toilet and the rest say they are exempt.

For non-exempt we give a free mask.

The number of exempt people is rising week on week - I fully understand some people are genuinely exempt but the numbers we are seeing is unbelievable. Lots say they have asthma - these are the very people who should be wearing a mask - especially in a pharmacy where we have a steady stream of people coming through the door with COVID symptoms. I have asthma and worked a 10 hour shift in a mask today - I definitely would not risk being without one.

The government really needs a system in place to filter out the genuine exempt people from those that can’t be bothered.

fullofhope100 · 09/01/2021 20:30

@GabsAlot

the shops need to start restricting how many come in again-its ridiculous 2 adults and kids doing a fmaily shop not necessary
Absolutely
missymoomoomoomoomoo · 09/01/2021 20:33

Having loads of support bubbles isn't allowed. You bubble with someone else and thats it. They can't bubble with another household. Its a closed bubble.

StealthPolarBear · 09/01/2021 20:34

newyearnewname123 that's a good point. Didn't all the traffic announcements in the march /April lockdowns remind us to stay at home? I've not heard any of that this time.
