DH just tested positive but we have 3 DCs who are clinically extremely vulnerable.

DH just received email informing him that he’s had a positive test. Not surprising really when lots of colleagues have it. But he’s tried to be really vigilant, wearing kn95 masks, hand washing etc because of our kids. Now that he’s tested positive, coughing, tight chest, fatigued, we’re left wondering what to do. The DCs are teenagers so old enough to understand the risks and to know that they’ve all had shielding letters. I’ve had one as well. I’m terrified now and I know we’ve got to wait 14 days to see if one of us has it too. Already one dc has temperature and headache! Anyone offer any kind words of support or advice, it would be most welcome.

I’ve got it now as well ☹️ So that’s 4 out of 5 of us. Already I feel so ill. Thankfully our GP has been proactive in prescribing steroids and antibiotics for me and one of my DCs. I’m just so scared of how this can all spiral downwards. Four of us are cev so we are at risk. I’m trying to take it an hour at a time.

I'm sorry you are having such a tough time, I hope you aren't coping by yourself with all this theres no real reason for your DH to isolate if the rest of the house is positive too. Do you have any health professionals, support workers etc that you can call just to air your concerns and generally get a bit of practical advice? Hope this is as bad as it gets for you all and start to feel better soon Flowers

Dogatetheleftovers · 11/01/2021 16:27

Thank you, that means a lot.

That's rotten. Is it worth switching round now so that the child who hasn't got it is physically isolated? The rest of you might as well mix now and keep each other company.

FabbyMagic · 11/01/2021 16:33

I’m so sorry OP Flowers You are doing so well. Do you have family and friends you can talk to on phone/text as well?

Orchidflower1 · 11/01/2021 16:37

That’s a good idea. Thinking of you @Dogatetheleftovers.
Minky37 · 11/01/2021 16:57

Oh dear, it spread through our house quickly too. Thankfully there is only me CEV and whilst I’ve felt rotten it hasn’t progressed to breathing difficulties, just to try and reassure you a bit.

itsgettingweird · 11/01/2021 16:58

Checking in to remind you you aren't alone. We are here for you virtually if you need to chat.

Glad gp was proactive.

Fembot123 · 11/01/2021 17:01

Thinking of you loads, I think you are right one hour at a time.

Santaiscovidfree · 11/01/2021 17:08

Thinking of you op. We have 5 dc and the pressure to give reassurances is massive. 1 of my dc tested positive in army camp last week. He is hundreds of miles away. You sound super organised - much respect to you. Your dc sound a credit to you - all pitching in is being a great family op...
Flowers
Wishing you all a speedy recovery.

Squiffany · 11/01/2021 18:53

Get well soon OP. Get plenty of rest.

Reinventinganna · 11/01/2021 19:01

Bless you op! I agree with the one that doesn’t have it now needs to isolate.
Have you got everything you need? Food, medicine etc?

InvincibleInvisibility · 11/01/2021 19:03

Excellent idea for non postive DC to isolate. That way your DH can help you.

I second (or third) the idea of packing a bag for each of you just in case.

Dont forget things like phone charger, meds, earphones etc etc.

My shielding DB had covid and althoug he was exhausted and coughed loads he avoided hospital.

Just remember that 104 year old Italian lady who was hospitalised with covid back in March (ish) and survived.

Stay away from the news and stay away from all the depressing and negative mumsnet threads. Also stay away from Dr google.

Drink LOADS of water.

FairyFairy · 11/01/2021 19:11

Must feel like a bad dream. Wishing you all a speedy recovery x

BBC link to an article on 4 ECV people with different illnesses who all survived covid. Just in case you want some positive stories.

Sending you lots of energy and positive thinking. You sound amazing and you can get through this.

Peggyslantern · 11/01/2021 19:31

So sorry OP, that's so rough for you all. Hour at a time, definitely. I hope you all get some sleep tonight.

Dogatetheleftovers · 11/01/2021 19:32

Thanks for that link Invincible I’ll have a read. I’m having huge anxiety tonight now that I’ve got it too. I keep thinking that I’m going to get really ill, or worse, and leave my babies (teenagers) behind. Or that there underlying health problems mean they struggle to fight Covid. These awful thoughts are going round and round and I don’t know what to do. I came up to have a lie down but I just can’t settle.

Nothing helpful I can add OP but just wanted to wish you all well Thanks

Orchidflower1 · 11/01/2021 19:51

Oh @Dogatetheleftovers you poor thing. Try and take it just an hour at a time.

Do you feel well enough to watch a funny film?

itsgettingweird · 11/01/2021 19:53

Do you mind or would your teens mind saying what conditions they are? People have have experiences of the condition with covid?

They do say children under 16 are still very rarely badly effected - even those CEV.

My ds has autism and hereditary spastic paraparasis (neuromuscular)
He's 16 and so comes under vaccine for underlying condition.

However his autism has never been an issue when ill.
His HSP does react to flu jab. But he has no respiratory issues and it doesn't affect his respiratory system so I've been told it's unlikely to be an issue. However he does have very bad muscles for a week after the jab and 48-72 hours later he often has a few hours he cannot get up. I've been told he'd likely have a muscular reaction that could be severe but along the lines of how you'd expect illness to affect him.

We actually think he had it. He had 3 days beginning of March with temp of 35.2° (his often drops when ill), couldn't get his muscles to work properly and was extremely fatigued. Coughed a few hours one day.

We didn't think covid due to date and lack of temp but I then be as,e ill and had very typical covid symptoms and wasn't right afterwards.

LaughingStock2021 · 11/01/2021 19:55

Handholding. It's so horrible to be so worried about the health and wellbeing of your loved ones Flowers

Ithinkim · 11/01/2021 19:56

What a worry for you. I hope you're all okay and it is only mild for you all.

Unsure33 · 11/01/2021 20:18

Sending a handhold.

Just to say when my family member was ill , in two occasions the paramedics treated him at home . He is recovering now .

GandalfTheNoble · 11/01/2021 20:19

Oh bless you OP. I understand your panic.

Hope you all remain well and have it mildly Flowers

RandomMess · 11/01/2021 20:49

Just sending you virtual hugs, I hope you manage to stay calm and you all start to improve quickly Thanks
