DH just tested positive but we have 3 DCs who are clinically extremely vulnerable.

DH just received email informing him that he’s had a positive test. Not surprising really when lots of colleagues have it. But he’s tried to be really vigilant, wearing kn95 masks, hand washing etc because of our kids. Now that he’s tested positive, coughing, tight chest, fatigued, we’re left wondering what to do. The DCs are teenagers so old enough to understand the risks and to know that they’ve all had shielding letters. I’ve had one as well. I’m terrified now and I know we’ve got to wait 14 days to see if one of us has it too. Already one dc has temperature and headache! Anyone offer any kind words of support or advice, it would be most welcome.

So pleased you are recovering. You've really been through the mill. Hope you truly have a speedy full recovery.

jpclarke · 31/01/2021 11:55

Dogatetheleftovers, I am delighted to hear you are doing ok and that your medical team are still checking in with you. Your poor daughter that is very difficult for you all, I hope as you get stronger she starts to realise that everything is going to be ok. Sending you prayers and positive thoughts, you sound like you are a very strong woman and your family mean everything to you ThanksThanksStarStar

You have done so well Dogatetheleftovers. I'm sure it will take time for you all to recover mentally as well as physically from such an ordeal. Anxiety alone is so debilitating. Do take some time out for recovery if at all possible.
As an aside - you mentioned Fortisip. I was very poorly at the beginning of last year - now it would be thought to be Covid as I had so many of the major symptoms, but this was straight after Christmas when Covid wasn't supposed to have even hit our shores. Whatever it was it knocked me for six and I used both Fortisip and Ensure - which is another make. I found Ensure more palatable I have to say! I hope you can get them on presription, but if not, they are available to buy via Amazon. They were invaluable at the time.
Thinking of you all.

dublingirl66 · 31/01/2021 18:07

Pebble can I just ask what that is please?

Pebble21uk · 31/01/2021 19:32

@dublingirl66 they are high calorie milkshakes - small ones which pack about 500 calories each and all the daily nutrients required. So they can be used either as a food substitute if you're not up to eating or as an extra add-on to food to try and bolster you if you are ill or underweight.

I found the coffee, chocolate & banana flavours the best!

dublingirl66 · 31/01/2021 19:57

Ok thanks so much for that
Good to know

ememem84 · 31/01/2021 20:14

Oh @Dogatetheleftovers hope you’re doing ok xx

A friend of mine with a dh and 2 young dc got ill with covid and ended up in hospital. She’s on the road to recovery now but did say that the stay in hospital was the best thing for her. It meant she could rest and be looked after which her dh couldn’t really do as he was caring for the kids more than her. Which is a sad reality.

We think dh had covid back in May although he tested negative on day 3 (his only test). I have two dc (oldest was 2 at the time youngest 10m). So they took all my energy and attention. I felt awful for dh. But luckily he didn’t end up in hospital.

Did anyone with Covid have terrible leg pains? For the past three afternoons/evenings, I’m getting terrible cramp pains which are almost a gnawing sensation. They’re in both legs, mainly thighs front and back but it’s unbearable. I’m just wondering if it’s to do with my recovery or something unrelated? Last night, I couldn’t sleep until 6am with the pain.

Are you drinking enough water? I find if I’m dehydrated my legs ache like anything.

Also try soaking your feet in green tea. Or having an epsom Salt bath if you have any.

No idea of the relation to covid but those are my go to leg ache fixes

Dogatetheleftovers · 31/01/2021 20:50

Thanks, I’ll try those ideas. I doubt if I am drinking enough as my taste has changed completely so that even water tastes revolting.

Wishing you a good recovery op
What an ordeal

Love to everyone else recovering from this too ❤️❤️

ssd · 31/01/2021 20:54

God bless you @Dogatetheleftovers

AlwaysUnsure · 31/01/2021 21:05

I have heard of people complain of leg pains with covid - there's a girl on Instagram who documented her time suffering through covid and she complained about leg pain. Always worth a check with your doctor though and making sure you're hydrated and pain meds are topped up. I hope you're recovery is speedy.

ememem84 · 31/01/2021 21:06

@Dogatetheleftovers oh man the loss of taste thing or change of taste thing is awful. A colleague had covid about 8 weeks ago and he said the loss of taste is the worst.

It’s something that would infuriate me as I love food.

CatherineCawood · 31/01/2021 21:46

Glad to hear you are home from hospital. Sorry to hear that you are still suffering. I hope you make a full recovery ASAP.

gettingfedupagain · 31/01/2021 22:38

Try some magnesium for the leg pains. Either magnesium supplements or magnesium oil to rub into your skin

kittylion2 · 01/02/2021 18:19

My taste changed too OP - and I couldn't drink much water somehow. I managed by drinking squash - my favourite was pink grapefruit, I am still drinking it now (was ill last April).

So glad you are through the worst.

november90 · 01/02/2021 18:45

OP I've just read through your thread and just wanted to post to say what an amazing Mum and wife you are. Always putting your families mindset and health before yours, you sound simply amazing!
What an absolute storm you've been through. I have a lump in my throat reading through this, it sounds like an absolutely horrendous journey you've had.
Wishing you and your family and the love and health possible ❤️

Dogatetheleftovers · 01/02/2021 19:45

Aww, thanks so much november90 that’s such a lovely message. Although I don’t have any friends in RL, reading such kind thoughts and wishes from people on MN make me smile. It also helps me to feel that I do matter and that life for my vulnerable DCs might just be ok when there are people as lovely as you in the world.
kittylion2 I’m so pleased to read that you’ve recovered. I’m doing something similar, swapping water for squash but it’s lemon flavour for me.

Oh OP, I kept popping back to see if you had updated and was getting worried. Just scrolled through my watching threads to find your and then looking for an update while holding my breath! So glad that you are feeling better and are home. Glad everyone else is on the mend too. It is understandable that some of them will be anxious that you went into hospital, if they don't watch a lot of tv and seen how busy they are, I can only suggest that you explain that it has happened to a lot of people so that they do not think you was unusual in needing extra help to recover. Good luck

hermionieweasley · 02/02/2021 17:18

Ah sooo glad to hear your DC and DH are better and that you're on the mend. I kept thinking about you but couldn't find the thread, so started a new thread asking about this morning!

dublingirl66 · 02/02/2021 17:27

Wishing you all the best op

What a worrying time for you all

Lots of kindness on here helped me through covid hell especially when my entire family were sick
❤️❤️❤️

girlofthenorth · 02/02/2021 19:43

Hi OP I'm glad to read you are back at home and sorry to hear about your ordeal.
My DD , who has chronic conditions had awful leg pain post covid and my DH too though his was mostly during. I've read it's a thing. But also DDs Vit D level was found to be low and we read that could cause it too.

goodname · 03/02/2021 16:42

Magnesium is great for leg pains. I had the change of taste when I had chemo and the only thing I could cope with drinking was grapefruit juice 😊. Hope you feel better soon

alreadytaken · 03/02/2021 17:46

Been avoiding social media - or I'd have joined in with the suggestion for magnesium. Epsom salts are magnesium sulphate and you'll absorb the magnesium through your skin, pat dry, dont rub after something like a 15 minute soak in a warm bath. It dries your skin a bit but is very good for muscle pain. If you try supplements avoid magnesium oxide as although its the cheapest form its also the most likely to cause diarrhoea.

Dark chocolate, avocados, nuts, seeds are good magnesium sources.
