When will people realise the supermarket is NOT a place to have a lengthy chat in?

Every bloody lockdown I see the same thing.

Just come back from Waitrose which is pretty civilised because they keep numbers down.

BUT the same as before- a couple ( youngish maybe 30s) - standing chatting to another woman (same ageish) for ages and ages at the end of an aisle.

Don't they realise that a) they should shop alone unless there is some reason they can't and b) it's not a place to catch up for a 30-minute gossip?

Other people might be queuing in the cold to go in and can't other shoppers to come out.

I see this at every lockdown and it's always 'yummy mummy' types who hang around talking, yes, they wear masks but NO they are 2 metres apart. These 3 today were not from the same family and were standing very close together.

It's usually older folk in mine but I agree with you. There should be snipers to take out those who loiter. (not even joking)

LovelyLips · 08/01/2021 16:17

Well yes, they can be as bad! Last lockdown I waited for bloody ages to get to a fridge as 2 old dears were chin-wagging for ages.

We should just weld people in their homes for a year. That would cut Covid deaths.

LovelyLips · 08/01/2021 16:20

:)

Last lockdown they had a tannoy system telling people to get a move on and be in and out as fast as possible but STILL the yummy mummy types were hanging around having chats.

Try being the one working in a supermarket. People grumbling at us because they have to queue outside in the cold. It's not the fault of staff that people are chatting and idling while doing their shopping.

Take a list, shop alone (where possible).

hamstersarse · 08/01/2021 17:01

Oh do get a grip OP

hamstersarse · 08/01/2021 17:04

I notice with these 'Perfect Citizen' types such as OP, they always leak out some bitterness and hate.

Yummy Mummy types? Confused

Whirlwind14 · 08/01/2021 17:07

The ‘yummy mummy’ types. Hmm

Jrobhatch29 · 08/01/2021 17:08

Get a grip OP. I talked to my friend who I bumped into in asda the other day because I was just so excited to see her, you know, after having nobody but my 3 kids for company all week!

Sorry but I don't actually understand that comment. Would you like to clarify?

People are allowed to meet 1:1 outside for exercise, 2 mtrs apart.

They are not allowed in each other's homes.

They cannot therefore substitute a supermarket shop for a cafe or a home, to chat.

While they stand chatting, others are queuing outside.

And...more importantly, masks stop the virus to some extent but people standing chatting and laughing risk spreading droplets through their masks to other shoppers.

Time for you to get a grip of reality I think.

OP, I hope you confiscated the copious amounts of gin, wine and Prosecco they had in their trolley as you know they’ll be swigging this whilst ‘home schooling’ and posting to their insta page.

Bloody ‘yummy mummy types!!

Nope. You get a grip and stop making excuses for behaviour that is anti social .

Supermarkets are not social venues. Get your food, pay, and get out.

I am with you OP but I have said this from the start (and have wondered for about two decades why going to the supermarket is considered to be an interesting family outing).

LovelyLips · 08/01/2021 17:11

FWIW the supermarket does actually tell people NOT to stand around chatting. The paging system - roughly ever 20 minutes- asks for them to shop as quickly as possible so other people can be allowed in.

Maybe you should tell them to get a grip?

Yes it's bloody annoying to be honest, having done a 12 hour nightshift and going to the shop on my way home, because unfortunately even people like me need to eat, to be held up by people gassing in the middle of the aisle, usually bitching about rule breakers, and then looked at like shit when you say excuse me.
Be the first ones to winge if they got held up in their business though by someone else.
Just fucking talk on the phone and stop being a selfish arse, you might have all day but some people don't.

hamstersarse · 08/01/2021 17:14

Get a grip means just have a moment to think about what you are saying.

Are you happy that you have become this person?

Water pistols are cheaper and easier to get hold of.

People standing around and chatting annoy me all the time so I will quite happily get on board with government sanctioned water pistols.

Whirlwind14 · 08/01/2021 17:16

Have you considered a Waitrose click and collect, OP?

secretllama · 08/01/2021 17:16

Oh sod off.

God forbid people actually have a bit of social interaction when bumping into a friend in the one place theyre allowed out to... after a year where most of it youve not been allowed to.

Jesus christ.

WunWun · 08/01/2021 17:17

😴

IndecentFeminist · 08/01/2021 17:18

What's a yummy mummy type?

ImBoredAgain · 08/01/2021 17:20

It’s the only place they can have a chat these days. I do personally avoid socialising as much as possible but that was way before COVID was a thing

ImBoredAgain · 08/01/2021 17:20

To add - I rarely see ‘yummy mummy’ types in Waitrose Hmm
