Meeting for exercise but not really exercising...

So me and my mum have met for dog walks which we have counted as our exercise since you've been allowed to meet another person.

It's the only time I really get out of the house and we live rurally so rarely see anyone else on our walks.

Question is, I am now heavily pregnant and I just can't walk the same so we'd planned to meet at a local field where people often let their dogs run and stand/walk round a little whilst the dog has a play.

I know people are getting moved on in some areas for sitting in the park or whatever but this is the only small form of exercise I can manage right now and my dog still needs to go out. Unreasonable?

A half hearted star jump if you see any police??
Your ddog needs a walk op....

GintyMcGinty · 08/01/2021 14:18

Fresh air and a wee walk around is plenty of exercise and proportionate when heavily pregnant and your dog needs to go out too.

Ha I'll have to. Really I could do with just sitting whilst he runs around but with all the bloody stories of fines and whatnot I'm scared to! And yes... I live in Derbyshire 🤦😂

You will get over zealous perfect rule abiding knob head telling you that you are breaking the rules and you are selfish and don't care about anybody but yourself.

In the real world of course it is fine to meet one person outdoors for a short walk and to exercise the dog.

fruitpastille · 08/01/2021 14:20

It's still gentle exercise if you stroll at the edge of the field? Also you are allowed out for animal welfare reasons.

Delatron · 08/01/2021 14:21

It’s fine OP. You are getting the exercise you need by getting out and about and if you need to stand rather than walk because you are pregnant (or god forbid sit on a bench!) then that’s justifiable.

Also comes under ‘animal welfare’. Your dog is exercising you are supervising him.

MangoFandango1 · 08/01/2021 14:21

Thanks. I guess I was mainly worried as I think most of it will be spent standing still tbh!! I am just knackered at the moment and can barely make it up the stairs nevermind a proper walk these days.

He's got a dog walker some of the days but the weekends I like to at least try and get some fresh air myself with him!

I can't imagine how much of an arsehole someone would have to be to fine a heavily pregnant woman sitting on a bench while her dog runs around!

Delatron · 08/01/2021 14:22

Plenty of people sitting on benches in our park (good on them!) but we’re not in Derbyshire!

MangoFandango1 · 08/01/2021 14:23

Hadn't thought of the animal welfare aspect, that's very true! Just want it to still include meeting my mum and was concerned as I know you're supposed to only meet for exercise which this isn't, not properly anyway!

Yes, I've made a mental note not to get a Costa on the way to said field!!!

Standing in a field for half an hour is a fair amount of exercise for some women with well endowed bumps.

Mousehole10 · 08/01/2021 16:05

It’s still exercise for you if you’re heavily pregnant. Definitely counts.

beckypv · 08/01/2021 20:10

Absolutely nothing wrong with you standing still in a field while your dog has a run around. However someone else standing with you having a chat is not exercise and, as you are not meant to socialise with other households it would be against the guidance.

Againstmachine · 08/01/2021 20:21

Hope we haven't gone back to the batshit, that you can't sit on a bench again.

One of my pleasures is sitting reading a book in the fresh air in the park(I don't have a garden).

Athinginitself · 08/01/2021 20:48

I think its totally fine. I've got a chronic illness so cant walk far or fast, I'm still entitled to go out for exercise and will be meeting my friend for a short walk next week.

DenisetheMenace · 08/01/2021 20:50

Bless you. Don’t think the strictest person would expect you to be jogging 😁 it’s good for you both.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/01/2021 20:51

If you are heavily pregnant then just feign contractions when they get close, that'll move them on. Grin

I dunno the OP has said she's in Derbyshire - remember, a coffee counts as a picnic there.

Hopefully even the idiots in the police there would use their common sense around a heavily pregnant lady.

lovelemoncurd · 08/01/2021 21:05

Lay down in the field op and have a rest. I wouldn't give two hoots if someone is exercising or they are not. It's none of my furkin business.

itsgettingweird · 08/01/2021 21:12

Take a coffee too.

Maybe not a blanket to sit on in case you're accused of having a picnic!

Or do you need a scotch egg for that?

Delatron · 09/01/2021 15:19

I went to the local park today. Sat on a bench and had a coffee and a sandwich. Plenty of other people doing the same. There was even a band playing. Two police officers arrived and walked through the park. Didn’t say a word to any of the many people sat on benches. So at least in our county they are being sensible.

Lockdownlovernotfromliverpool · 09/01/2021 15:20

Apparently carrying a take away coffee makes it appropriate to hand out £200 fines...

Pandemicpanic · 09/01/2021 15:23

Op I think it's awful you are in this position.

We must apply common sense.

I'd take a camping chair and move your legs if you see plod in the chair. BTW I think having a dog buys you many more freedoms...

Hardbackwriter · 09/01/2021 15:24

I took my toddler for a walk earlier - I'm 35 weeks pregnant and have SPD and he's a two year old who wants to stop and examine every leaf he passes. We had a few good sit downs on the way. We were probably going at the pace of a slower than average snail. That was the exercise we can both manage and I can't imagine how big a twat you'd have to be to question that.
