Serious Covid illness in younger people with no serious underlying conditions

Recently in video and news paper reports in the mainstream media I’ve noticed more of a mention of younger people in their 20s, 30s and 40s being seriously ill in hospital and ICUs with covid. There seems to have been more of a mention of this during this wave compared to previously. I’m aware that the new strain is only thought to be more infectious and that there have always been some younger people who are severely effected however I’ve noticed that the number of younger people who are getting seriously ill with Covid has been flagged up with more frequency recently. Does anyone know if there has been a rise in younger people being seriously effected and if so why or if this nothing has changed and it’s more of a case of making sure that people are aware that no one is immune to serious illness?

Approximately 20% of COVID critical care patients are aged 49 or under

So 1 in 5.

That's quite a lot.

With obesity - cheaper food tends to be full of sugar and crap. Do people reliant on foodbanks have much of a choice? There's an increasing number of them.... I think poverty and obesity are linked, aren't they? I don't think it's as simple as willpower. I looked at the Pioppi diet and my main thought was it sounds EXPENSIVE.

I can just give my experience, i'm in my late thirties, healthy weight, no serious underlying conditions, I was hospitalised in October with covid pneumonia. I was in private ward so didn't see but the nurses told me that the number of previously healthy middle aged people who were in hospital at that time was crazy. In the first wave it was mainly a different demographic in their opinion

@IloveJKRowling definitely yet another issue. It’s definitely easier to eat well with a decent food budget.,I’ve been ensuring I eats lots of fresh fruit and veg etc and while there are cheap options more money makes this easier.

@Sorehandsandfeet I’m sorry to hear you were hospitalised, that must have been a scary time. I hope you’re recovering well. There seem to be a lot of reports like yours which is worrying especially as under 50s won’t get vaccinated anytime soon and will be exposed through work and school children etc.
