I feel ok, when would I feel worse ?

forrestgreen · 07/01/2021 09:26

I had a test, routine one, on Monday which has come back positive.
I feel ok, I'm cev though and was told originally by my consultant that if I get it, I'll die.

So when does it get worse, I live alone so need to be prepared

I’d say if it’s been 4 days already you might be one of the lucky ones who doesn’t get symptoms. Fingers crossed!

Bmidreams · 07/01/2021 09:30

Wow! What a lovely thing to be told! So I take it that you can't look back and see that you had any symptoms? What day are you saying today is?

FTM24 · 07/01/2021 09:31

@forrestgreen that's awful you've been told that. I've heard day 7 is the worst but you could already be past that depending when your last test prior to Monday was?

HuaShan · 07/01/2021 09:35

I don't know if it helps but I have had friends who are CEV who have had Covid with minimal symptoms too, also friends with no underlying health problems who have been v poorly - so it's not always a 'done deal'.
I agree with the pp , if you are 4 days on with no symptoms you are likely to be fine. Just look after yourself.

InterfectoremVulpes · 07/01/2021 09:59

Your consultant sounds a bit unprofessional, or are you just paraphrasing what he said?

As others have said, you are likely to be fine

Porcupineintherough · 07/01/2021 10:47

Usually if you are going to get seriously ill it happens 5-7 days after symptoms start. But please remember how sick you get depends a lot on genetic factors and lots of people just dont get sick, regardless of any other underlying conditions they have. 4 days along and feeling ok is very positive.

NancyDrew1966 · 07/01/2021 10:48

Days 5 to 12 are when people tend to deteriorate. Some may feel better and then deteriorate. Thst's why people get anxious. It doesn't progress in a steplike manner like flu.

TheDailyCarbunkle · 07/01/2021 11:57

I doubt your consultant told you that you'll die, I'd be really surprised if any doctor said something so stupid.

Millions upon millions of CEV people have had covid and been absolutely fine. For some reason people want to believe that covid means sure-fire death. It's so, so weird.

forrestgreen · 07/01/2021 12:07

Nope, she honestly said those words. I'm hoping it was a scare tactic at the time to make sure I didn't go out?

I get a test every Monday.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm back in hospital at a clinic today, fell like a leper but everyone is being kind.

I asked about what my consultant said and the nurse said she's know for dramatics.

If she comes in I'll ask.

So not sure how to count the days. Is Monday day 1?

Porcupineintherough · 07/01/2021 12:15

At the very least it was an oversimplification. Some people arent susceptible to symptomatic or serious COVID and, as yet, we dont know how to identify these people or exactly why they are minimally affected. I guess your consultant was wanting to make it clear how serious COVID might be for you (certainly little was known about mild cases at the beginning of the pandemic). I'm sorry, that must have been a terrible pronouncements to live with for all these months.

Do you have any symptoms at all?

Porcupineintherough · 07/01/2021 12:18

Day counts are difficult. They usually go from the first day of symptoms eg you usually get worse 5-7 days after symptoms start. But if you test positive with no symptoms then you start the count from the test. But then, as you dont know whether you are asymptomatic or pre symptomatic it can throw the rest of the count out by a few days.

MorelloKisses · 07/01/2021 12:20

It is really irresponsible to be told that - even for CEV groups you have a much higher chance of being fine than dying!

Best wishes, stay positive.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 07/01/2021 12:28

((((HUG))))

That must have been a very stressful thing to live with for all of these months.

I'm 'just' CV and I've found it stressful enough.

Do you get tested because of your CEV or are you part of a trial?

Do you think you might have picked it up on your previous visit? How else do you think you could have picked it up?

I presume it was a PCR test last week, not one of the less reliable ones?

Hopefully they can tell you more while you're there. Let us know how it goes.

You don't know her personal medical history though.

I'm not sure 'stay positive' will ever make a come back!!

balzamico · 07/01/2021 12:30

I downloaded this chart yesterday which suggests that days 5-9 are the worst but then again, if you've had no symptoms yet you may well be asymptomatic 🤞

I feel ok, when would I feel worse ?
WanderingMilly · 07/01/2021 12:36

If you haven't had many symptoms, you will probably be lucky. If you don't know when you first started to feel ill you will need to count the test day as Day 1 but be aware it may not be, if that makes sense...

Day 5 can start going downhill, after that some people start to feel much better and then suddenly go downhill at Day 9/10. If you get past 10 days without anything happening, you will be fine....

stopchewingeverything · 07/01/2021 13:11

Sorry, not in the UK so I may have got the rules wrong here (I try to follow as closely as I can). But if you have tested positive, why are you attending a hospital clinic?? Surely if you have tested positive only a few days ago, you only attend hospital if you need A&E and/or admission?!? Shouldn't you be isolated at home?

Gluestick80 · 07/01/2021 13:16

Sorry but shouldn’t you be isolating or have I misunderstood?

SwanWhite · 07/01/2021 13:22

Hi all, excuse my ignorance but what does CEV mean? I've seen it lots, googled and can't find an answer.

Porcupineintherough · 07/01/2021 13:25

@Gluestick80 that depends on the clinic. If, for example, you needed kidney dialysis, that wouldn't stop because you were positive.

Clinically extremely vulnerable
Veuvestar · 07/01/2021 13:26

There’s no way you should be out
Unless it’s a clinical trial you’re part of ?

SwanWhite · 07/01/2021 13:26

@HadEnoughOfBears thanks so much!

I would assume something like dialysis would have to go ahead
