If so many people wanted schools closed then why are some schools seeing up to 75% of children in?

I have never wanted schools closed although I do recognise why they need to and that they need to be made safer.

Yet it seemed like I was in the minority, all over the internet people wanted schools closed and their children safely at home.

So why are so many trying to send their children in? Is it a case of "schools should be closed except for my child?"

It isn't compulsory to send children to school. Parents have always been able to home school.

But I get your point and I really don't think it's ideal that children are going to be out of school for months again. There are other options and don't know why that bunch of fuckwits in government haven't tried them. Honestly, they are as slow witted incompetents who got where they are by being from the right family. No wonder they can't see a problem with the gap they are creating between the chosen ones (keyworker kids) and the rest. Fuckers.

@DBML

Then that’s a shame whitty, because that’s exactly what children need right now, regardless of the demands on us as adults.

Every parent is their child’s first and most important teacher.

Well I know my own flaws and hence didn't go in for teaching, that's your job
HelloMissus · 08/01/2021 12:34

Part of the reason there are so many kids on is that absolutely no one believes school will return to normal until after Easter.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 12:35

Twilight I agree with you on disparity. It is so shit to be in the group that gets the raw end every time. I’m with you there.

I baulk at dreaded blended as due to KW numbers it would be even more shit and lower provision to non KW children.

whittystitties · 08/01/2021 12:36

And by the way, that doesn't make anyone a bad parent, unbelievable that you could even have that attitude really, talking yourself out of a job?

This sounds lovely and airy if you fancy Home Ed as your new way to teach,

Most prefer school and dressing it up as above doesn’t change much.

Tianatiers · 08/01/2021 12:37

I wanted schools closed but open for the children who really needed them open, less children in, less risk of spread. My child is doing fine at home but I know that wouldn't be the case for all children so I'm glad there's an alternative for them.

DBML · 08/01/2021 12:38

I’m about to teach my afternoon classes so this is sadly my last post for a few hours, but whitty, it’s not wise to hand over full responsibility of a child’s learning to their school/teacher alone. It’s a collaboration of effort under normal circumstances and even more so now.

MynephewR · 08/01/2021 12:39

@marshaBradyo I thought I could get away with her thinking that schools were just closed and that is why she can't go. Make sure we aren't out walking at pick up/drop off etc but now they are doing these live lessons she will know that she's the odd one out who's not allowed to come in. It's awful. Not that I blame her teacher or the school, they are doing their best in this shit situation.

I'd be more than happy with a period of home education if it was proper home education. If we could take them to museums and other educational places. If they could socialise with other home educated kids. But the kids who are off school are expected to not see any other children (apart from siblings) for a couple of months... maybe longer. And what about only children? It's so bad for their development, so unfair on them and absolutely unacceptable.

Oh please, I'mBInvolved with my children, how patronising, im just not a bloody teacher and big enough to hold my hands up to that - we pay you for that

whittystitties · 08/01/2021 12:43

I've never been more convinced that whilst there are excellent teachers around, there's a lot of dead wood in the profession who this situation suits them to a tee

GoOnTwo · 08/01/2021 12:47

@TwilightToStarlight

Don't blame people who wanted schools to close for the fact they haven't really closed Confused.

Do you think this is some dystopia where if you ask for your government to act on something, they do something quite different which punishes children unfairly? Most people on here were saying that school reopening should be delayed by a couple of weeks, not closed to a select unlucky few for months! Blame the inept, stupid wankers in government. They deserve to lose their jobs and more. Bunch of rancid shits.

Exactly this.

I wanted online learning, This shit show is the fault of government and no-one else.

Gavin Williamson calling for parents to report online provision to Ofsted deflects the blame from the calamity he caused and shows the contempt we are faced with. This shouldn't be us against each other, it is us together against them.

Our schools and teachers are doing their absolute best. With 12 hours notice they brought online provision. They were working on logistics for testing without additional resources.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 12:55

The schools we use are very good. But I really feel for some posters who have that sinking feeling at getting so little. It may improve but if it doesn’t there needs to be a course of action.

DecemberSun · 08/01/2021 17:18

Look at the thread with schools closing on that first day. What is your interpretation?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4124666-school-closures-coming-in-thick-and-fast?pg=8

That thread doesn't exist. Is there a newspaper article you can provide?

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 17:18

What are you going on about?

You don’t exist as a poster can you type so I can see it

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 17:20

What is up with that? Weird as hell.

Are you talking to me? I have no idea what you are talking about.

I SO agree, PP on other threads have tried to point out the disaster of closing schools and were accused of wanting teachers murdered, and once again its the vocal big mouths. Shame on them and I hope they are enjoying home schooling.

I suspect some of them are even using the schools for their own children despite what they were saying on a forum. Or maybe it was a load of teachers who were just shouting everyone down in order to work themselves at home?

Online schooling is not great. The difference between state and private will become huge. I heard in the last lockdown teachers saying they didnt have broadband, didnt know how to use Zoom or the technology and werent very interested in a Can Do attitude. Some teachers hid behind their Head who were not taking calls or blaming the local authority or Boris. I even heard one say that they couldnt use Zoom because they might appear on a port site. Funny how the private schools have never mentioned it. It felt as a parent like excuse after excuse to not do something.

Of course its not all of them but there is a sizeable % of schools who are not stepping up and blaming everything and everyone as to why they cannot do something.

It doesn't when I click on it. Must be a glitch. I just get the error Ooops message.

Is there a newspaper article in it or is it just anecdotal?

Tumblebugsjump · 08/01/2021 18:54

They aren't.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 19:15

December try typing the thread title in search

‘School closures coming in thick and fast’

on date when they closed, the day before blanket closure

You’ll get there eventually.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 19:17

At least read it and say why you think it’s false.

How many turned up to the NEU meeting can you answer that or did that not happen either in your odd world?
