Taffix Nasal Spray Covid Protection

BlueBlancmange · 06/01/2021 21:09

According to the below report, Taffix Nasal Spray offers significant protection against Covid and is already available in the UK. It appears to be on Amazon, although Covid is not specifically mentioned in the description. Has anyone bought this? It seems off that it should be launched with barely any fanfare.

I have been wondering too

I meant it seems odd.

Posted the same the other day totally agree

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 06/01/2021 21:22

They want us to have the vaccine instead don't they 😂

Justiceishalfblind · 06/01/2021 21:30

It’s clever “fly paper” isn’t it? An alternative/addition to masks

picklemewalnuts · 06/01/2021 21:31

That report reads like an advert. Is there anything more independent sounding?

Justiceishalfblind · 06/01/2021 21:34

Indeed. It is CE marked. I’m not sure how far that takes us.....

Definitely not an alternative, but possibly a useful addition.

It’s “approved for marketing”/CE marked.....

Justiceishalfblind · 06/01/2021 21:44

Yes- it’s flypaper - like that First Defence spray you get in Boots.

So not specific to Covid but a film in your nose must surely be a good thing?

Here is what the authors say:

“One point that should perhaps be made more clearly is that Taffix is not a specific protection against a specific virus/receptor but a non specific physical and chemical blocker of viruses over the nasal cavity. The concept of non specific viral protection in the nose was thoroughly researched and proven by others ( Hull D, Rennie P,- ref 6, James E. Gern: Inhibition of Rhinovirus Replication In Vitro and In Vivo by Acid-Buffered Saline, JID 2007:195 (15 April) and Rennie, P., Bowtell, P., Hull, D. et al. Low pH gel intranasal sprays inactivate influenza viruses in vitro and protect ferrets against influenza infection. Respir Res 8, 38 (2007). doi.org/10.1186/1465-9921-8-38 ). We do not claim any specific interaction with the ACE receptor or the S- protein but rather a nonspecific blockage that prevents viruses from reaching cell surface. This last claim is supported by studies we performed in several viruses including the SARS- CoV-2 virus cited in the article and posted on the company’s website. 3. Taffix is classified as medical device class 1 and as such is subject to marketing authorization process. That marketing authorization in Europe is posted on our website and referred to in the article including the approved indication “ Taffix ™ is legally marketed in Europe (CE- DE/CA09/0760/N18/001) with the following Indication for Use: TaffiX ™is indicated for use as a protective mechanical barrier against allergens and viruses (e.g., SARS-CoV-2) within the nasal cavity.”

I'm just kind of thinking there can't be much to lose, apart from money.

We decided the buy a load of vicks first defence off the back of your first thread OP 🤭. You certainly sold the idea to me and I plan on making DP use it daily across winter to protect him from colds and viruses. He has an auto immune disorder and always gets the worst of even the most standard colds.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 06/01/2021 22:00

What’s different about this compared to other nasal sprays, like First Defence and Nasaleze, that claim to trap viruses? Apart from price obviously.

Justiceishalfblind · 06/01/2021 22:45

Useful assessment about First Defence.

No obvious evidence this is different.

But if it does no harm.....?

WanderingFruitWonderer · 07/01/2021 11:57

I bought some Boots own brand Dual Defence yesterday. I've heard it works on the same principle, and it's been/being studied for Covid protection.
It was on special offer, and I reasoned it could do no harm, and hopefully some good. I'm following the rules, but surrounded by people who aren't, so need all the protection I can get...

DarceyDashwood · 07/01/2021 12:11

I posted about the Dual Defence study on the other thread and have bought a bottle! Don’t think it can do any harm?

DrumsPleaseandTriangleToo · 07/01/2021 12:28

Which is the other thread? Or where?

WanderingFruitWonderer · 07/01/2021 12:59

Yes, I missed the other thread. Do you know what the title of it was please?

WanderingFruitWonderer · 07/01/2021 15:18

@DarceyDashwood many thanks

flapjackfairy · 07/01/2021 15:29

We are using this if we go out. The research is good. I saw an article in one of the papers a couple of months ago and been using it ever since.

Delatron · 07/01/2021 15:36

I’ve been using first defence or similar since this all began. Used it if I needed to go out on public transport or if I felt a tickle in the throat.

Research looks good. Worst case I’m losing £7. Best case is protection!

WanderingFruitWonderer · 07/01/2021 15:39

Which one do you use @flapjackfairy?

DrumsPleaseandTriangleToo · 07/01/2021 15:52

Thanks. I've been using the boots one since I read about the clinical trial. It doesn't burn my nostrils like Vicks First defence. From what I gather the trial involves using a throat spray 3? times a day, so that must be a formulation designed for the trial. I've been wonder about switching to taffix since it's kind of been trialled with the C19 & doesn't require the throat spray but not sure which if any are best. It could all be bollocks, am sure but like others have said, can't see the harm along with other mitigating measures.

flapjackfairy · 07/01/2021 18:46

@WanderingFruitWonderer
We use the Taffix one .
