Taffix Nasal Spray Covid Protection

BlueBlancmange · 06/01/2021 21:09

According to the below report, Taffix Nasal Spray offers significant protection against Covid and is already available in the UK. It appears to be on Amazon, although Covid is not specifically mentioned in the description. Has anyone bought this? It seems off that it should be launched with barely any fanfare.

not trialled with Covid 19

"studies we performed in several viruses including the SARS- CoV-2 virus cited in the article and posted on the company’s website."

WanderingFruitWonderer · 07/01/2021 21:45

@flapjackfairy ah, I didn't even know you could buy that yet. I may get some, when the Boots one I've started using runs out

pickingdaisies · 09/01/2021 15:28

I've just read the report published by Birmingham university, it says that taffix is possibly more efficient because the size and shape of the particles are more uniform, so it should be more efficient at blocking the virus. Basically forms a better physical barrier. But either of them have got to be worth a try as an additional defence.

Justiceishalfblind · 09/01/2021 15:36

Ooh link please

flapjackfairy · 09/01/2021 16:25

@WanderingFruitWonderer
I just bought it on amazon

Delatron · 09/01/2021 16:28

It looks like it’s sold out on Amazon now.

Justiceishalfblind · 09/01/2021 16:38

Thanks, yes

I'm taking part in the above research study through my GP Surgery. I have to use a similar liquid-based nasal spray in certtin situations for a year and chart any infections I might get. Covid is mentioned. These products are obviously being taken seriously at the moment...

Not sure if this thread is anti-vax, wishful thinking or an advert.

GinJeanie · 27/01/2021 20:23

@Aprilrainbow - not sure there's any agenda tbh. I think it was a reasonable thread to start. It may be useful to have the vaccine (as I have had) and use a spray - who knows? I didn't get the vibe that anyone thought it would be a useful replacement (although I could easily have missed that knowing me! 😊)

doireallyneedaname · 27/01/2021 20:41

Seems a bit pointless as Covid can enter through the eyes. Confused

FuzzyPuffling · 27/01/2021 20:59

I bought some so in the event of going out we've got an extra layer of protection. I don't expect miracles, but if it works a bit it's good.

Same alfeus we need to know more!

RoseWineTime · 16/03/2021 17:43

Same here.

alfeus · 16/03/2021 20:52

Still freely avail on ebay

This now looks like the same kind of hysteria these authorities are exhibiting towards Astra Zeneca: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9368071/Spanish-regulators-BAN-51-nasal-spray-studies-cut-risk-catching-Covid.html

notrub · 16/03/2021 21:15

Firstly, the research is pretty weak.

Based on 2 people out of 83 users catching covid, vs 10 out of 160 who "chose not to use the spray".

This sounds impressive until you consider what factors made 160 people CHOOSE not to use the spray?

NB - no clinical trial operates in this slip-shod way - people do not CHOOSE whether or not to use a product - they don't know whether or not they are using it as half would be given a dummy spray.

I would expect people who chose not to use the spray to be less concerned about catching covid, and more likely to take risks in their exposure - perhaps younger crowd??

In short, this is most likely to be pure snake oil.

Hysteria??

Demanding proof of safety and efficacy??

How dare they!

GeorgeandHarold66 · 16/03/2021 21:21

I use it, I got a couple of bottles off EBay. I haven't had Covid since I started using it Hmm not sure if that proves much really though. I find it very easy to take as it doesn't burn or make me sneeze excessively so it's worth having 🤷‍♂️
