Are you back to working in an office?

I remember a few months ago people were saying they were going back to offices in January...are most people still WFH if they can?

We (civil service department) have been told we mustn’t go in unless it’s essential. Not sure how long this will go on for. The armed forces personnel are also being told they need to WFH unless doing an essential job like new recruit training where they have to be on site.

The new lockdown restrictions mean that anyone who can WFH should do so. I've been WFH since March.

BlueBaubles12 · 06/01/2021 14:46

Still working from home. I’d started to go in one day per week (voluntarily, I wasn’t forced) in August. However, I haven’t done that since the November lockdown.

Our offices are not open plan and very few people are going in, so very easy to socially distance. In fact, some days I didn’t see another person other than the cleaner.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 06/01/2021 16:41

Been back in the office voluntarily since August. Wfh almost broke me. I sit in an office by myself, see a handful of others from a distance in the corridor or from a doorway, always in masks. Am covid tested every week (NHS).

The rest of my team and most of the rest of rhe department are wfh and senior management are very happy for people to continue wfh.

I'm a student (nursing) because I'm pregnant I'm based in an office. Most work from home but it's quite a busy office and I feel like I'm getting in the way. Lots of tension in there because people WFH aren't necessarily picking up their loads and it's causing a back lot etc. I can't learn from home but I'm not doing much there.

emmathedilemma · 06/01/2021 16:48

I haven’t been in since March. Ours was open for probably less than 6 weeks and I don’t think it was even open every day and then when England had lockdown 2 they all got closed again (even though our office isn’t in England!). None have reopened after Xmas.

OnlyTeaForMe · 06/01/2021 16:49

DS (21) is doing a one-year internship job and has been working from home since August. He finds it really hard since he's never met any of his co-workers. They've been told the earliest to expect to be back in the office is May, and his job finishes in August!

ChoccyJules · 06/01/2021 16:50

Been WFH since March. One of our three offices came up for lease renewal and it wasn’t renewed.

APurpleSquirrel · 06/01/2021 16:51

I was wfh from March then went back to the office Sept-Oct till the November lockdown, been wfh since. Tiny office, usually just me but downstairs offices occupied by cleaners (who clean care homes), plumber & electrician so boss said it was too risky to go back in after November.

whoamongstus · 06/01/2021 16:53

I'm still at home - I was going in one day every fortnight or so from August-November but we're not planning fulltime return til at least March now, probably later.

Chimeraforce · 06/01/2021 16:54

Still wfh. Last time I visited was August. I discovered my desk taped off (never had a chance to use it, we move in there 1 week before 1st lockdown).
We've now been told Another office move, I haven't asked where to. It will be shit, open plan, dirty hot desking and apparently we'll have to book a desk. No thanks. I'll wfh until I'm forced in.

larrythelizard · 06/01/2021 16:55

I haven't been back into the office since the first lockdown. Some people had started to go in but most are now essentially banned from the office. I don't expect to go to in to an office until the summer I don't think

PJsEveryday · 06/01/2021 16:55

I'm back in. Same staff as before Xmas are back in despite most of us being able to wfh. And as before Xmas, the senior managers can work from home whenever they want. Nothing at all has changed, except the mood at work. I reckon there will be a more than a few people looking for new jobs when life returns to some kind of normality. For a smallish, family run business, its clear they don't give a fuck about their staff.

cadburyegg · 06/01/2021 16:58

I’m still wfh and have been since March. I know my employers are now seriously considering wfh long term for the most part, even after covid, with maybe 1-2 days in the office per week for meetings etc

elotrolado · 06/01/2021 16:58

I'm at home, but others are in the office, unlike the first lockdown when only one person went in. No social distancing either.

Scaryprospects · 06/01/2021 16:59

I’ve been in three times since March also. Our office is completely closed until further notice

trilbydoll · 06/01/2021 17:01

I would be in the office if schools were open because I find it much easier. Now schools are online I need to be at home with dc. Not many people are in though so it doesn't feel particularly risky, there's about 8 of us in an area the size of a football pitch.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 06/01/2021 17:04

Civil service - only staff who cannot work from home due to software are in the office. Before this lockdown they were allowing people to return who didn't like WFH.

I was not one of them! Wink

annevonkleve · 06/01/2021 17:05

I've been WFH since March and our office is closed except to hardship cases or critical business need. There may be a few youngsters who really can't work in a shared flat.

Laquila · 06/01/2021 17:12

I work in a large organisation and had been back in the office a couple of days a week since August. Now we're all (mainly) back to WFH which is much more preferable for me, despite having to juggle the home-schooling aspect. We're allowed to go in if we prefer, though due to the nature of our work/industry.

DerelictWreck · 06/01/2021 17:18

I started a new job in April and still haven't been in to the office or met my colleagues/boss!

MellowBird85 · 06/01/2021 17:25

I’m a Support Worker (non-statutory) and during the first lockdown back in March we were WFH and couldn’t visit clients, instead delivering support remotely. This worked surprisingly well. They then put together a plan for a phased return to the office / visiting clients in October but that was scrapped when we went into Tier 3.

Throughout all of it though, there seems to have been an undertone of expecting us to be eager to get back in the office and show our faces. WFH is basically frowned upon. I’ve got a team meeting booked in next week - I’m not going. They haven’t got a leg to stand on.

dementedma · 06/01/2021 17:30

Nope. Still Wfh since March. Fucking HATE it.

PTW1234 · 06/01/2021 17:32

Since March, whilst there is benefits it’s really making me feel isolated. I refer to my spare room room / makeshift office as prison. But I am very lucky to have a spare room

Oblomov20 · 06/01/2021 18:43

I didn't like wfh. I found it lonely and isolating. I'm still going into the office 1 day a week, which is a lifesaver to me.

Redcrayons · 06/01/2021 18:46

Hope so.
I changed jobs in summer and I’ve only been to my new place once to pick my laptop up. I’d be happy to go in once a week when this is all over, as I do like office interaction. Don’t really want to do all the travel though.
