75% of my school are in

That's it in a nutshell. Three quarters of my school are classed as keyworker or vulnerable. Might as well chuck the other 50 in and be done with it.

Lockdown 1... 12 children.

No PPE and we've got to double our workload for the ones needing remote learning whilst we are teaching our classes. And then making phone calls to check on them.

It's the same for every school in my area.

Honestly. The clients can suck it up.

If they want an alternative 'professional' good luck to them in finding one in the middle of a pandemic. In the meantime the client can do homeschooling themselves if they don't like it.

If the client doesn't get there's a pandemic on then its tough shit.

The problem is that the tough shit will be on the tutor who loses their job. If the client doesn't like the work the tutor is doing, of course they can find someone else who doesn't have toddlers making noise in the background. The majority of workers in this country do not have dependent young kids and are therefore able to work undistracted, even during a pandemic. There is less work about, and the work that is about will mostly go to people like that, without childcare responsibilities to worry about---that's why mothers are so screwed and so many of us are dropping out of the workforce.

I'm not exactly defending the people sending their kids in, but just trying to point out that there are a lot of competing worries and concerns going on.

@Kitcat122

My school has high numbers in. Support staff in. Teachers at home doing lessons.
That's awful. So the support staff don't matter? And they are paid a pittance as well.
Busygoingblah · 06/01/2021 01:16

All the nhs staff or similar I know are extremely careful about patient confidentiality when wfh. I work in an nhs service that is usually based in schools and nurseries. There’s no way our service would be able to accommodate us all now doing this via video call in an office. There would be a far greater risk to patient confidentiality if we were making these calls within earshot of others making similar calls. WFH, without chance of a child interrupting calls, is the only viable option for us right now.

Flaxmeadow · 06/01/2021 01:17

Flexmeadpw. Piss takers such a long list my dog is one. Teachers need not many children in to stop spread. Everyone is a keyworker with the list.

But it isn't teachers who look after them in school, its teaching assistants. That's what happened last time, at least that's what happened in our local primary schools

Maybe an idea might be to employ more assistants? Because, if MN is anything to go by, teachers still do not want to go in, even for key workers/vulnerable children. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would be happy of a job as a teaching assistant ATM

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 06/01/2021 01:17

This is getting ridiculous. The abuse of the key workers/vulnerable lockdown system is self defeating. Is stupidity to be added to the Covid symptoms list? No wonder the rapid mutating super spreading can not be contained! If we don’t properly lockdown hard - this will continue and result in more unnecessary lives and livelihoods lost in the longer term. Lockdown no 10+ anyone? Children will be adults if they survive by the time the mutations finally dies out! We need to strategically think long term for lives and livelihoods damage limitation.

Fucket · 06/01/2021 01:18

Why can’t you go to school or nursery and work there? If patient confidentiality is an issue and you may have other people at home with you how is that justifiable? Just because pupils are not on site why can you not be?

happystone · 06/01/2021 01:19

I could have a keyworker space but I like my child’s teacher and ta and don’t want them to become ill or worse. Child’s teacher cares for elderly family member I would never forgive myself if my son was part of the spread. It will be hard son goes to special school I have 4 children in total all at home me and partner work shift’s . But you just get on with it and be responsible

ineedaholidaynow · 06/01/2021 01:20

@Flaxmeadow schools have no money to employ more people

starray · 06/01/2021 01:22

@FreekStar

Schools shouldn't be allowed to make their own rules! How is that fair?
Totally agree. The government needs to standardize the rules across the board!
TheGreatWave · 06/01/2021 01:22

Is it just me or does anyone think that the list is so long that the school closures are nothing but lip service? That the government can say "oh we've listened and shut the schools" but they haven't really.

DS is going in two days a week, according to that list I am a keyworker so both the youngest could go full time despite DH being the sahp. That is a rubbish thing to do, so I will just muddle on again. DS has autism, doesn't work at home so needs some school contact to actually do something.

happystone · 06/01/2021 01:24

Flaxmeadow . Good idea ta came become ill instead I don’t give a fuck about them yes and let’s employee more ta to kill off. I work in a supermarket which is bad enough but to work in a school is suicidal

Flaxmeadow · 06/01/2021 01:25

@Flaxmeadow schools have no money to employ more people

Assistants are not well paid anyway, but they went in last time we had a big lockdown. Keeping people on the dole costs money too, I'm sure many might even volunteer.

The thing is. According to MN, teachers, for whatever reason, still do not want to go into schools. It's a waste of time dwelling in that. So i think Gov't need to look elsewhere for help

You have to go through dbs checks and do safeguarding training before you’d be allowed to supervise children as a volunteer. Plus the school would need to make sure they’re insured in case of any accidents or other issues.

Quite rightly, schools won’t be allowing any old Tom, Dick or Harry to rock up and supervise a class.

Flaxmeadow · 06/01/2021 01:30

Flaxmeadow . Good idea ta came become ill instead I don’t give a fuck about them yes and let’s employee more ta to kill off.

It was TA's who kept the scheme going before though, during the first lockdown. They were the ones in school, not teachers

I work in a supermarket which is bad enough but to work in a school is suicidal

So did I. But people want jobs, I don't think schools are as high risk as a supermarket/retail. Others who happily worked in non essential retail have lost their jobs and I'm sure they'd rather be doing something now.

happystone · 06/01/2021 01:30

Flaxmeadow The government needs parents to look after there children ffs if it’s that fucking hard put them in care if you can’t do it. Or you go in a class and get long codv. That’s the best

happystone · 06/01/2021 01:32

Teachears and support staff have no ppe I do

Flaxmeadow · 06/01/2021 01:36

Maybe you think everyone should stay at home then. NHS, food retail, police, social services?

Lockdownbear · 06/01/2021 01:42

@ineedaholidaynow

My DH is an accountant. He would not call himself a critical worker
Stop and think about it, If accountants don't work, who pays the vat and tax bills, who claims the company Grant's and sorts furlough claims accounts?

Financial services includes banking - we'd all be a bit fucked if the banks stopped working.

There's key to fighting covid, nurses etc and there's critical to keep the country ticking over.

Flaxmeadow · 06/01/2021 01:43

Teachears and support staff have no ppe I do

Plenty of people have no PPE. The police here, and most retail staff wear no masks/PPE. The police wnet into my sisters house over Xmas, witness to a fight at her neighbours, no PPE, no masks.

Masks are cheap. Five for £1 in Iceland now. Not that everyone wears them in supermarkets anyway or in office jobs apparently. There is thread or comments about office staff and that ATM

echt · 06/01/2021 01:44

Oh look, a windmill. AKA what Flaxmeadow does they have no other arguments. :o

starray · 06/01/2021 01:45

"Honestly they have all already had Covid

At my DDs seconsay school all the support currently in school have had Covid."

UsernameSaved, I can't believe you actually said that. So support staff don't matter....because they've all already had Covid?!!?

HeidiOfTheAlps · 06/01/2021 01:52

This is why we need to keep numbers low at school
At a press conference at Downing Street on Tuesday, Boris Johnson said.............more than one million people were currently infected - with the number of patients in hospitals 40% higher than in the first peak.

The government's chief medical adviser Prof Chris Whitty cited the Office for National Statistics' random sampling data for England as showing how widespread the virus is.

"We're now into a situation where across the country as a whole, roughly one in 50 people have got the virus, higher in some parts of the country, lower in others," he said.

That latest estimates include:

One in 30 for London
One in 45 for south-east England, eastern England and north-west England
One in 50 for the East Midlands
One in 60 for north-east England
One in 65 for the West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber
One in 135 for south-west England

happystone · 06/01/2021 01:53

Usernamesaved. My friend ta in secondary has long codv she is slim fit no health conditions and is 27. She has to sleep in her living room because she can not walk up her stairs. She cares and looks after your children and her and staff are treated like shit. You should feel ashamed and embarrassed by your comments. I hop to god you don’t have children.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/01/2021 01:55

@Lockdownbear he is working but from home as have the rest of the office, but he, the rest of the employees and their clients accept the odd child, partner, dog, cat etc coming into view every so often. In fact they quite often discuss who has the cutest dog!

It is just what happens now. Yes a year ago it wouldn’t have been deemed professional but it is just accepted now. I would prefer a child popping up unexpectedly in a meeting rather than a school being hit by COVID and then passing it into the community.
