If you / anyone you know has had covid, where did they catch it?

I've been meaning to post this a while. I don't personally know many people who've had covid, though my number has increased a lot in the last week.

Of the people I know, one caught it off his husband who is a hospital nurse, one caught it off her boyfriend who caught it 'out and about', and one (2yr old) caught it off her dad on a contact visit. The rest have no idea.

Who does know where they caught it?

No real reason for asking, not a journalist, just interested.

2 of my relatives have died of covid - they were both elderly and in care homes so we can safely say that they caught it there.

Another, younger, relative survived covid. She was a part time carer for a disabled person, but cared for him in his own house and he lived alone. When tested, he didn't have covid. I suppose it could have been a false negative. No idea where she got if from if not him, it was a bit of a mystery.

My eldest had a positive case in his school year, and we were told to self isolate just before Christmas. Then I got it, presumably from him although he was asymptomatic. I've been ill for 7 days now, and the chest pain has started today. It feels like a flu.

From the only place Mum went to...the hospital, where she was told her cancer was in remission....3 weeks later she died of covid...she never saw anyone other than dad or went anywhere else for over a month, so that's the most likely place.

thishouseisashittip · 06/01/2021 00:06

My 9 year old, from school 😔 literally not been anywhere else.

I personally know of three close people who have had it.
The first is fairly certain to have caught it during a hospital stay (non-covid related) in March/April and phoned in tears to say they were left in a ward with two other people (who were later moved to a covid area) that were coughing for hours. They died a week later from COVID and I'm still really angry about that.

Second was a young relative who shared a very short car journey with a friend who subsequently tested positive. All other occupants of the car did too later. Had a bit of a headache, bit tired but no other symptoms, rest of family isolated for 14 days no symptoms.

The third one is current, and I'm really, really angry about it! Elderly parent, been extremely careful since March, no socialising within house or outside really, online shopping etc basically taken ill just after Christmas (non-covid related) Taken to hospital, tested on arrival and 4 days later, both negative. Discharged on day 6, was tested again early that morning. DID NOT LEAVE to go home to a clinically vulnerable person until about 5pm. Two days later received a test & trace phone call but wasn't available to take it, waited for call back. Checked phone (baring in mind they are elderly and not tech savvy & noticed they had 2 texts. First saying you need to check test & trace app, second saying as you have tested positive to COVID-19 you must isolate!!!

It's a clusterfuck!

My husband caught it at work, Gov call centre based work. The only thing he did differently the week he caught it was have lunch in the canteen on the Monday and by Friday had a positive test result. By the following Friday was admitted to hospital.

He passed it on to me, with my positive result arriving on the day of his admission to hospital having taken 3 days from ordering the test.

KriKay · 06/01/2021 00:23

I had it in November. It seems I caught if from either work (nursery), or supermarket.
Anyone else I know who’s had it got it at work (school).

Bluesmartiesandpandapop · 06/01/2021 00:24

All from work (frontline key workers) except for the two kids (and then their families) I know of who was from school

LindaEllen · 06/01/2021 00:25

I caught it off DP. He caught it at work along with 30 of his colleagues, one of whom sadly passed away.

Horrible times.

Bunchness · 06/01/2021 00:26

Mum caught it in hospital for a non related condition. She brought it home to me and my Dad. I suffered but was ok. This was beginning of November. My dad has gone back into hospital having been discharged 2 weeks ago. Honestly can't find the words to describe the life changing impact Covid has had on our family.

QualityRoads · 06/01/2021 00:27

Work - colleagues wife had symptoms and very ill, colleague came into work coughing

School - teacher in secondary school picked it up there

Household - prolonged fairly close contact inside someone else's house

tabulahrasa · 06/01/2021 00:30

1 in Hospital after being admitted for something else
1 in a Care home - resident
2 at work in a school
1 not 100% sure where, but owns/works in a pub...so...
1 at work, food chain animal husbandry and unable to social distance

And a couple who don’t know

FancySomeChips · 06/01/2021 00:30

School (about 22 friends of mine (adults))
Tesco
Other people’s houses (because they thought COVID wasn’t real and didn’t follow the rules)
Pubs

Suzeyshoes · 06/01/2021 00:33

My kids both had it first, then me and DH. I’m assuming it came from school as there were cases in both of their classes.

RMRM · 06/01/2021 00:36

Of my friends:
One on skiing holiday in Italy, first wave. Really poorly, had to get ambulance out.
One fb friend's relative fell over, taken to hospital, caught Covid, sadly died.
3 teachers caught it from their class in different schools.
1 nurse caught from a patient.
1 asymptomatic, works in a school.

Think that's it. It's noticeable how many more of my friends have tested positive recently.

MajesticWhine · 06/01/2021 00:38

My young adult DC caught it by mixing households and socialising indoors at a party.

colouringindoors · 06/01/2021 00:40

dd brought it home from sec school last week of term. Passed it on to me and her brother.

Separateatone · 06/01/2021 00:41

I know personally of 7, all caught at school or hospital.

Ploughingthrough · 06/01/2021 00:45

My brother caught it at work - teacher, then his wife got it from him. My aunt caught it in the shop she works in - she had to be hospitalised but is fortunately recovered now.

littlepieces · 06/01/2021 00:46

My grandmother caught it while in hospital for a gall bladder problem. She died a week after testing positive.
And a friend caught it right at the start last year, while at a ski resort in France.

NavyKitchen · 06/01/2021 00:50

My oldest friend caught it in hospital. Negative when she was admitted, had a private room, positive when she was released to a care home for physio/rehab 3 weeks later. Sadly, she died in the care home after a week. She was 42. She had a serious underlying health condition but would be alive if it wasn't for Covid :-(

veryhungryhippo · 06/01/2021 00:50

Not sure where I caught it from but it was most likely from my partner as he was going to work in emergency service. He tested negative at the time I had it. Other places I could have picked it up were from the shopping (mostly did click and collect) or the 2 mins I was in the chemist.
