I own a florist in a tier 4 area. We are currently closed as classed as non essential but are able to work behind closed doors and offer contactless delivery. Today an elderly gentleman knocked on the shop door, he wanted to order flowers for his wife's funeral, he was clearly upset and it was freezing outside. So i broke the rules and let him come inside. It just seamed cruel to leave him in the street. So was i unreasonable to break the rules?

@kidscreatemess

I empathise with the need for justification when breaking the rules (or even when following them!). Somehow lockdown has made many of us paranoid about the whole thing.

What you did was kind and right. I'm sure there was very little risk of transmitting covid if you followed the hands, face, space rules.

Don't fret!

You are right.

I 'broke' the rules xmas Eve.

We were having our family bubble Xmas day (ahhhhh - the memories of tier 2!) and my parents are childcare bubble for my DN.
mum is on chemo and felt really tired and wanted to be well Xmas day. (Poss last Sad).
So I had my DN.

Technically a rule break. But was seeing him following day anyway and my sister is involved in vaccine role out and was doing that all Xmas Eve.

I've felt a real sense of guilt over it and still try and justify it in my head.

But realistically I know transmission risk didn't change and people getting their vaccine actually helped reduce it.

Oh crap. I’ve just started organising my mother’s funeral and hadn’t even thought that I wouldn’t be able get flowers. Sigh.

I suspect you know the answer but want praise.
You could have told the story without the faux WIBU to break the rules?

So sorry for your loss. Don’t panic most florists are still working, give your local shop a call I’m sure they will be able to help you x
