So why is my tier 4 child less important than others

Just that really. We are midlands and tier 4 but have to send our primary kids to school tomorrow yet down south they don't have to. Surely all tier 4 should be shut? Fuming

I'm North East. Tier 4.
The schools my DC attend have both announced today they will be remote learning for all but vulnerable & keyworker / critical worker children. 1 has said for 2 weeks initially, the other has said they're hopeful it's a short term measure.

Billie18 · 03/01/2021 22:16

I clicked on this thinking you were complaining about your child being denied education...

Insertfunnyname · 03/01/2021 22:18

Christ your child is more at risk of death from chicken pox!! I thought this would be a complaint that your school was shut!

nomorename · 03/01/2021 22:18

Yep... ridiculous. Should be a blanket policy

igotosleep · 03/01/2021 22:19

You don’t have to!

Jj2431 · 03/01/2021 22:19

I'm happy for my kids as my youngest struggled with lockdown last time but if it's so bad we are in tier 4 then what's the difference between us and other places in tier 4 that are shutting schools? Makes me feel like midlands kids and our families are disposable

Maybe my child is..maybe my child isn't..I also have a baby and I'm asthmatic myself

Children aside following your professional and considered "fact" there... it's not just about children contracting the virus, it's about them spreading it to their parents and grandparents....

I honestly despair and the attitudes of some people

Indecisive12 · 03/01/2021 22:21

Also tier 4 with 170 cases/100,000 I’m glad it’s not a blanket ban and would be furious if they closed.

user1471453601 · 03/01/2021 22:21

Tell the school you are serving a section 44 under H&S legislation. See what they say.

Whatever they say,I wouldn't be sending my child to school any time soon

MillieEpple · 03/01/2021 22:21

I am down south in tier 4 and our schools are open.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 03/01/2021 22:21

It's only London and a couple of other places that the government have closed. Plenty of schools in the south are open as usual tomorrow morning. Unless the teachers have forced it to close.

Testingisajoke · 03/01/2021 22:24

Can you please get your facts right. The majority 'down south' are also being left to the wolves.
However why is the government so London centric when it promised us it would be a party for the north is a good question. On winning the election BJ said he realised that he had only been 'lent' the northern vote. I hope you all remember this.

BunsyGirl · 03/01/2021 22:25

What is your rate per 100,000? My DCs school is in an area that is closing. However, the rate is 945 per 100,000.

HappyChristmasTreeRex · 03/01/2021 22:25

SW Tier 4, schools are open here too. Not a North/South thing, possibly a London thing.

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 03/01/2021 22:25

Stop trying to make this a 'South' thing - there schools in Tier 4 directly bordering London that are open tomorrow.

DianaT1969 · 03/01/2021 22:26

You'll drive yourself insane trying to fathom reason in this government. Better to make your own risk assessment and decisions. If you have vulnerable family members, then you would make that call on local numbers, regardless of what the rest of the UK is doing.

Jj2431 · 03/01/2021 22:26

Ok, my apologies, London is mainly who I meant

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 03/01/2021 22:27

On the areas where schools are closed the Covid rate is much higher than the Midlands. Are you really asking why are we in tier 4? I think schools will close once the new strain of the virus has travelled north and enough people are dying for the government to take action. My guess is that will be in a couple of weeks.

TillysMum02 · 03/01/2021 22:27

write to your mp

i went to email mine but looked on his facebook face to find he had already been inundated with requests to appeal to government, which he now will do tomorrow

BethHarmon · 03/01/2021 22:27

This isn’t about protecting children or individuals, it’s about slowing the spread of the virus.

Divebar · 03/01/2021 22:28

You assume firstly that all the schools “ down south “ are closed which they are not and that all parents want them closed. There are some parents who will be up shit creek if the schools close again. Keep your kids off school - job done.

Viviennemary · 03/01/2021 22:29

If you are anxious don't send your child to school. But I agree this individual school closure is causing a lot of problems. Maybe it should be one rule for everyone

Insertfunnyname · 03/01/2021 22:29

@nomorename I do actually agree with you, and think schools should shut for that very reason. However op wasn’t talking about the fact that children can carry it asymptomatically to vulnerable relatives, she was just talking about her child’s safety.

Which I think is unfounded hysteria (assuming no underlying conditions as none were mentioned)

We’re tier 3 with 203 cases per 100k.
