So why is my tier 4 child less important than others

Just that really. We are midlands and tier 4 but have to send our primary kids to school tomorrow yet down south they don't have to. Surely all tier 4 should be shut? Fuming

Then don't bloody send them! Ffs this is getting ridiculous! In my parents what's app not one person has moaned a few simply asked about taking them out and are making that decision!

Your a hypocrite as I could say the exact same thing about you! Why should my child lose out because you want schools shut?!

BlipBlopYourNipNop · 03/01/2021 22:32

I'm East Midlands and our school is closed from tomorrow. We recieved the email at 4pm this afternoon. Other than key worker/vunerable children. It is 50/50 for the primary schools around us.

Indecisive12 · 03/01/2021 22:32

@Marmite27 plenty of tier 3 areas with less rates than ours. I seriously don’t get it. Can’t be to do with hospital capacity because we’re taking patients from SE apparently

MarshaBradyo · 03/01/2021 22:33

Don’t send them

I’m the same as pp it’s hard to get access to education thought it would be that

Littlepond · 03/01/2021 22:33

It’s not about the tier number it’s the case numbers. Closing schools last resort so only highest affected areas doing so. You’ll be a lower affected tier 4

DipSwimSwoosh · 03/01/2021 22:34

Your child is no more or less important. It's not about them. It's about community transmission. Children are at very little risk.

Alittlelessthanuseless · 03/01/2021 22:34

I’m in the south and tier 4 and my DS is going to school tomorrow

Gertie75 · 03/01/2021 22:35

I'm also midlands tier 4 and glad schools are back next week, dd's are year 1 and 3 and despite my best efforts with home schooling around my job in the first lockdown their education definitely suffered and dd 1 became quite withdrawn due to not mixing with her classmates.

The school have strict measures in place and so far have had 1 case which was a teacher who caught it outside the school.

beela · 03/01/2021 22:37

@Jj2431

I'm happy for my kids as my youngest struggled with lockdown last time but if it's so bad we are in tier 4 then what's the difference between us and other places in tier 4 that are shutting schools? Makes me feel like midlands kids and our families are disposable
The difference is that some places in tier 4 have a rate of 800+/100k, and some have a rate of around 200/100k.
NailsNeedDoing · 03/01/2021 22:38

Lots of tier 4 children down south are still expected at school tomorrow, no need to turn this into a north/south thing when it isn’t one.

spaceghetto · 03/01/2021 22:41

@Gertie75 do you think the "strict measures" make a difference? I mean that as a genuine question. The head at my ds school was boasting before Christmas we were the only school locally to not have it and that was because of the school's strict measures. I think maybe they were lucky. Anyway, the week after her comment we had 6 confirmed cases.

Alwaysready · 03/01/2021 22:44

Its ridiculous. My school is open my childrens has closed. Oxfordshire here. Tier 4 should all be closed.

Gertie75 · 03/01/2021 22:46

I think the strict measures help to reduce the risk but of course it can never be eradicated.

Ours have year group bubbles, it's a small school with 20 per class, staggered start and finish times, only lunchboxes and water bottles allowed in which are to be kept away from each others, parents wear masks and not allowed in the ground and windows and doors open in the classrooms.

I agree that teachers should be high on the vaccination priority list.

Howshouldibehave · 03/01/2021 22:46

It is ridiculous-the government don’t appear to give much of a shit about anyone outside of the South East.

Keep them off if you are concerned-I suspect they’ll be closed soon anyway.

SillyOldMummy · 03/01/2021 22:46

In my town 5 primaries have today announced they wont be opening, regardless what Boris says, and the local council is supporting this with public statements.

Local decision making is happening. Or is has lost control.

Panickingpavlova · 03/01/2021 22:47

Op you do realise school very close to London have higher rates and are also not closing?.. Nothing to do with North or south.

KinderWild · 03/01/2021 22:57

We are London in an areas where the gov has decided to close schools (the original list, not the extra London schools). Our rate is 985/100k and has climbed every day for the last 3 months.

Before Christmas my son's school has no cases at all. Two from entry.
If I was in a tier 4 area with high rates I would be wanting to keep my child off. I am CV not ECV.

GabsAlot · 03/01/2021 22:59

because we dont all have the same case rates

ours is 1000 per 100k cases whats yours

sunshinel · 03/01/2021 23:07

We're not in London, we're Home Counties. Our school is closed and I'm gutted, we both work so won't be able to home school properly. Our kids will miss out and we'll be stressed. We had zero cases in our school last term, small primary. I really hope it's only 2 weeks, if I had the choice mine would absolutely be in
