How many teachers will be handing in the section 44 letter tomorrow and not going in?

My DSis is scared to go to work tomorrow in a private primary school in Tier 3 but lowish numbers. She is not ECV but has got chemo damaged lungs so it petrified of catching Covid.

She desperately wants to follow union advice and not go in tomorrow but she’s worried that most teachers will be in as normal, she will have a black Mark against her and will be quietly pushed out.

Are there many teachers on here planning not to go in tomorrow? What do you think will happen tomorrow?

I think @Glitterbug76 has a chip on her shoulder about teachers in general. I am not engaging with this any more. I think this thread is just going round in circles.

@MarieG10

Just struggle to acknowledge the lack of sensitivity of some teachers and staff from our school who are already on Facebook celebrating lockdown....welcoming the "rest" after all the pressure they have been under

Oh come off it.

I'm on line now working with head teachers and teachers after a full day yesterday too. We are busy planning for tomorrow, after having all plans pulled just three hours ago.

Glitterbug76 · 04/01/2021 23:12

Our schools closed tomorrow for key workers to unfortunately they don’t have enough staff. Lots of the parents who are nhs staff are now trying to figure out how they are going to get cover for there shifts at 7 in the morning

Im a nursery practitioner and I think its disgusting that teachers/t.a's/ nursery practitioners etc should be put at risk of contracting Covid , I think a lockdown should mean lockdown closing all schools, colleges , nurseries and early years, why should we and our families be put at risk of ill health or even death , Boris needs to stop pussy footing around and impose tougher restrictions ( im also recovering from cancer, so this worries me even more about being put at risk )

I call bollocks.
CisMyArse · 04/01/2021 23:27

Rest? You have to be kidding. I've had to isolate three separate times since Sept and I've delivered lessons each time, remotely. It's incredibly hard and involves way more preparation than the usual lesson planning.

Rest? You're either happy to be swept up in the goadiness or you really have no idea what it involves in being a teacher.

Glitterbug76 · 04/01/2021 23:51

butterflyprincess74 but it’s ok for me to be and my family ?

madmum100 · 05/01/2021 00:19

Your prayers have been answered. No need to hand in any letters forms or resignations and no need to be worried. Lockdown 3 and all schools closed. Back to the hell of home schooling for ill prepared and incapable parents like myself. A bit peeved as just paid this term’s school fees and it’s exorbitant for a London school not in Central London but there are no good state schools where we live so we have been forced down this path.
The school isn’t very good at providing remote live lessons: they think 2 live remote lessons on Teams per day is really good!!! It’s rubbish compared to other schools in the private sector and some state schools. The rest of the work is all online tasks with power point presentations. The most disturbing fact was during the first lockdown the school never had any live French lessons which would have been the easiest of all the subjects to teach remotely on Teams. Instead they had to use a combination of online task sheets and a software programme.
There won’t be any reduction is school fees even though they will furlough all the medical staff ( we have full time medical staff at the school for the benefit of the children) and all the catering staff etc etc
Last time we were told we should be grateful and if we don’t like it we can lump it as there’s a long waiting list to get in! Then the governors pleaded poverty for the school! They don’t have the large endowments like Eton and Winchester but even those schools gave up to 35% discount off school fees! Sorry for the moan but the financial crisis is beginning to bite

butterflyprincess74 · 05/01/2021 01:11

@Glitterbug76 and your point being ?

caringcarer · 05/01/2021 01:15

How many hours of online learning each day would teachers think was acceptable for a Year 10 student? Every child in class has own devise and some have laptops, tablets and phones so no problem with devices or internet.

Miniondave123 · 05/01/2021 07:18

It is to do with the new variant of covid! As we are all aware they don’t know much about the new strain. I noticed pru settings are asked to stay open? Is a pru teachers life worth less than a mainstream teacher when there is actually more risk to pru staff!

I was quoting what some teachers were saying on social media...their words not mine. I have already said it is a minority so not taking everyone with the same brush!

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 05/01/2021 07:49

Seems teachers were more at risk than others. They just were hiding the data until forced

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 05/01/2021 07:49

And that was before the new variant

mrshoho · 05/01/2021 07:56

The data has finally been published. Now we can see why it was hidden. Criminal.

RoseTintedAtuin · 05/01/2021 08:40

That is absolutely gob-smacking and I agree criminal. I really hope the government are held to account.

Glitterbug76 · 05/01/2021 08:46

@Glitterbug76 and your point being ?
That you think you and your family are more beautiful important than mine and all the other workers that can’t demand to stop work.

Glitterbug76 · 05/01/2021 08:47

Sorry ! Important

@Countdowntonothing, thanks If they offer him the 1 1/2 hrs they usually do I will go back and ask for 4 hours. I can do Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology but not the BTEC Sport or Food. I bought the text books for the BTECS but only work set/assessed by his school will count. I just want them to set him some BTEC theory stuff do he could get on with it with support from text books and internet but they just don't set anything. I find it so frustrating. I know he will be ok at practical bits but as so far they have not started the theory in Sport and only done a tiny bit in Food. I have seen on his specification he has to do a topic and he wants to do cricket spin bowling but I just wish they would tell him to research it/write about it and then let him email what he does across. They are having a new Head of Sport/PE who is going to run course but if he does not get in he won't even get to meet them. Perhaps I will hopefully hear more news today.

RememberSelfCompassion · 05/01/2021 09:18

Wow that was before the new variant.

Shows why they weren't releasing the data
Lying scumbags.

lonelyplanetmum · 05/01/2021 10:23

The last minute announcement isn't great for international school pupils who board in the U.K. They'll have to fly back again.

Given they contribute a few billion each year to the economy you'd think notice before NY would have been an option.
