Where is everyone, why has there been no statement on today’s news, even a “we will meet shortly to review” tweet....

Just something, anything!

How the fuck can they possibly leave the teachers and parents scratching their heads with no plan of what’s to happen in 3 short days and with the news full of reports and scientific and professional findings of how absolutely ludicrous it is to send children and teachers back...

You honestly couldn’t make this shit show up, someone need to put a penny in wee Gav and introduce him to his backbone...

Someone should sack and replace Gavin Williamson : who might be a problem !
He really hasn't been great at all and they have had time to sort all this out.

This is a man who keeps a pet tarantula and is prepared to use it to goad colleagues

A tarantula makes Cronus, after the Greek god who ate his children

So the government can place the teachers

mstumble · 02/01/2021 16:59

The silence is eerie! They just need to let teachers and parents know what the hell is going on! Cases are higher than they were in April- so why could they justify it then and not now?!

SilverGlitterBaubles · 02/01/2021 17:00

Its appalling OP, the whole bloody lot are beyond incompetent.

AIMD · 02/01/2021 17:02

At the risk of sounding stupid.....I thought that they had said school will be open except for in some tier 4 areas?

Is this about something else? Or you mean in response to the teaching unions action?

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 02/01/2021 17:02

what’s to happen in 3 short days

I'm expected in a classroom at 8am on Monday, 39 hours from now - not sure where you got 3 days from op?

LadyCatStark · 02/01/2021 17:03

Is anyone actually surprised about this anymore??

Popcornriver · 02/01/2021 17:05

I think with no announcement yet we have to assume primaries will open as normal on Monday. I won't be sending mine however even if there isn't a last minute statement closing them.

StormyInTheNorth · 02/01/2021 17:05

I am starting to worry what the provision will be when the schools do close. Or will we be left to play teacher again?

I'm expected bank at my desk to work on Monday, and I'm in tier 4 with no schools and I've still no idea how my kids are getting taught on Monday virtually, nothing from the school!

This, w are there right now and there's been zero comms and no news!
HipTightOnions · 02/01/2021 17:36

It’s very difficult for schools/LAs/DfE to give any clarification though. It’s not like a strike - any Section 44 action has to be undertaken by individuals - I suspect many school staff are currently considering what to do, so schools may not yet know how many staff will be on site on Monday.

SweetPetrichor · 02/01/2021 17:49

Nobody can be all that bad if the have a tarantula. Wink That’s just an adorable little Brachypelma emilia. Best thing about working from home...nobody can tell you not to have a tarantula on your desk! They’re great for you’re mental health and stress relief!

As for the schools, well they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t. There’s no winning.

Remmy123 · 02/01/2021 17:51

What's the difference now where we were from September?

Why is everyone hellbent on schools closing.

Noellodee · 02/01/2021 17:54

We have a new strain which means that even with schools closed, it's not certain that will stop the virus spreading.

We have hospitals that are stretched to capacity and cannot cope with much further increase.

Grooticle · 02/01/2021 17:55

The rates now are as bad as they were in April, and there’s evidence the new variant (which is more transmissible) is spreading particularly among children. The hospitals are struggling like in the first national lockdown. Makes no sodding sense to open the schools now. We de-registered anyway, and will return kids to school once this shitshow is over, but for everybody else this must be a nerve-wracking time not knowing whether schools will be open, whether it’s safe etc. Government just needs to make a decision and let people know what’s happening.

Meredithgrey1 · 02/01/2021 17:55

I imagine the government wants the unions and teachers to make the decision for them. Then they can say they wanted to keep schools open, but local authorities (I think Brighton and hove have just announced primaries schools to not reopen), unions and teachers had other ideas.
No one in the government seems to have the ability to make a fucking decision until everyone else has already made it.

FoolsAssassin · 02/01/2021 17:56

Do you genuinely not see any difference between the situation we are in now compared to September? None at all?
Bizawit · 02/01/2021 17:56

I thought that they had done a u-turn and said schools will remain closed now?

Emmie12345 · 02/01/2021 17:58

We got an email from school today re arrangements for next week onwards - year groups going back , testing etc

This is secondary

Why is anyone waiting for another annnouncement ?

humtar · 02/01/2021 17:59

*What's the difference now where we were from September?
*My primary school went through the first half of the autumn term with no cases. By the Christmas break we had 7 teachers off with COVID, over 20 staff isolating and one class with 14 positive cases in the children.

Bizawit · 02/01/2021 17:59

Oh sorry just realised that’s just London..
