When will they decide about schools?

Ffs hurry up and let parents and teachers know what is happening. I was expecting some kind of announcement today but maybe they will see what the figures are like then tweet it later via some obscure number 10 person the resident mouse. I'm autistic and struggle so much with not knowing what's happening img. Tier 4 for us and rates have doubled in a week. I won't be sending primary ds back as I'm CEV and a lone parent but I wish they'd at least give us the choice and no threats of fines. I want him in school but he needs me to be alive more then he needs to be in school for the next month or so. He isn't due back until the end of the week anyway but ffs lots of schools are due back on Monday and still don't know what's happening 🤬

@Kjc39 @cecilia2016

  • There is no strike. Unions are advising school staff that they are entitled to refuse to work due to health and safety concerns.
  • Schools and shops are not similar. The problem in schools is prolonged close contact without PPE.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/01/2021 16:37

It's a nightmare. I need to be in work Monday morning, my manager won't be impressed if I'm ringing on Sunday night saying I can't come in.

finisterreforever · 02/01/2021 16:40

@ArosAdraDrosDolig

Probably 8.45am on Monday just as everyone’s getting in the car in their uniforms.
Pipped at the post!
listsandbudgets · 02/01/2021 16:40

Probably tell us that they're closing at mid day at about 9.30am on Monday so that everyone who's just dropped their children at school has an hour or two to rearrange their lives for the next ? days , turn round pick them up again

Chosennonesneakymincepie · 02/01/2021 16:40

The unions have started legal action based on schools being unsafe. The govt are going to need to counter argue that schools are safe. That is going to be ... very difficult
Unlike supermarkets Hmm students don't queue outside until their are fewer bodies in the building! Students are packed in like sardines and only wear masks on the heaving corridors! Staff are not allowed PPE unless a TA providing close contact support. There is no space for any social distancing at all... again, unlike Supermarkets.

Announcements need to be made in a more timely way, for definite. I 100% back teachers not going in on Monday; I have nothing but admiration for how they have managed through this and I feel sorry that conditions are so unsafe they are being told to not go in on safety grounds. We should save school places for those desperately in need-I am happy to support home learning for mine as it is safer for everyone right now.

MrsMariaReynolds · 02/01/2021 16:42

10:32pm Sunday evening sounds about right

YonderTweek · 02/01/2021 16:44

Yeah, I reckon around 9.30pm Sunday night. 🤷

lazylump72 · 02/01/2021 16:44

I am in Tier 3 and have just recieved a text from my dds primary school head mistress to say all in as usual on monday 4th,just continuing our staggered start and finish times.

MushMonster · 02/01/2021 16:46

I think we will have to wait till Monday.

Peppafrig · 02/01/2021 16:49

Depends what country your talking about

namesnamesnamesnames · 02/01/2021 16:54

So working 1-1 with a child all day, sitting closely to support that child, to speak quietly to the child whilst in class and still be heard so no distancing possible, whilst also sitting in a room of 30 other children all day and also supporting some of those children, makes people less vulnerable to covid than working in a supermarket? I appreciate the concern of retail workers but I disagree on this.

Char2015 · 02/01/2021 16:55

Not sure but the Government have until 4pm Monday to send their response to NAHT. Whether anything will be announced before then who knows. With what the NAHT and NEU have advised, surely Government can't just leave it to play out by seeing what happens Monday. We received information about the London Boroughs around 7ish yesterday evening, perhaps we will hear something similar time tonight. They need to come and speak to the school staff and parents who are anxiously waiting.

@Kjc39

It’s a good job all the supermarket staff didn’t strike and refuse to work! Schools are no more unsafe then supermarkets!
of course they are! Supermarket staff are not in a small room with thirty people at a time wearing no masks, switching those people several times a day. Confused

Ha Ha just brilliant! I presume you don't work in education? So presumably have zero idea of what you're talking about?
Pastanred · 02/01/2021 16:59

its been on news all day what can happen so im guessing most people should be preparing a back up now just in case

it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone when they do announce

Dawnlassie · 02/01/2021 17:01

BS
Supermarkets are plenty big enough to socially distance and the checkout staff now have plastic screens in front of them. Have you tried sitting in a classroom of 30+ seven year olds?

itsgoodtobehome · 02/01/2021 17:02

I thought they had let us know. Primary schools will open except for those in London. That's the information that I am working with. What else is there to know?

Popcornriver · 02/01/2021 17:03

Schools are no more unsafe then supermarkets!

Are you joking? Oddly enough since the union announcement I've seen that statement all over different social media. Please explain why you think that. They're completely different environments. Pretty much everyone in a supermarket is in a mask, more spread out and you're close to different people for seconds. Classrooms are small rooms full of other people in close contact for hours at a time Confused

notevenat20 · 02/01/2021 17:03

I think the data scientists are looking at the data all the time. As it's getting worse and worse you don't want to make a decision until the last second sadly.

notevenat20 · 02/01/2021 17:04

Supermarkets are plenty big enough to socially distance

That is definitely not true. The aisles are much less than two metres wide in mine.

Timeturnerplease · 02/01/2021 17:06

@Kjc39 One of the reasons the unions are calling for two weeks online provision is so that schools can be made safer, and things like masks finally allowed. Things that supermarkets already have.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 02/01/2021 17:07

Thursday evening. They'll have everyone back in for a good old share of the virus and then have to shut for 4 weeks.

Dawnlassie · 02/01/2021 17:07

You have the option of looking away from the other customers or walking around, or even going to a different shop. 95% of the patrons will be wearing masks anyway plus you can go late at night or early morning when its quieter.Teachers have none of those luxuries.

maverickallthetime · 02/01/2021 17:09

@Kjc39 hilarious!
I've been in a supermarket today, I've not had to tie shoe laces, comfort a crying child, be close to a number of children. I don't think staff have either, I've seen staff wearing masks (can't do that with the children I work with), cleaning checkouts and staying away from others. Stop being so bloody stupid
