Be quiet @Bagamojo1. Teachers are in such a precarious position right now.

SeldomFollowedIt · 02/01/2021 13:11

Question is will teachers actually not go in to work on Monday? Many will just do as their told by their head teacher surely?

SeldomFollowedIt · 02/01/2021 13:12

They’re rather!

Achristmaspudsskidu · 02/01/2021 13:13

The daft thing is, if the members of Us4Them hadn’t been so obsessive and militant about schools going back exactly as before last year with no safety measures in place, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be closing now!

Makingnumber2 · 02/01/2021 13:14

@Barbie222 the entire facebook group is a heaving cess pool of anti vax and new world order conspiracy theorists. My friends and I have dearly enjoyed screenshotting the most nuts comments and sharing them on whatsapp for lols to make Tier 4 life more bearable.
The issue is so bad that one of the main admins had to make an announcement not a few days ago essentially banning those types of comments and discussions because it was discrediting the group...
Will be interesting to see how many members remain since 5g and vaccine chips can't be spoken about. Teacher bashing is also banned on there- although still happens in spades, but the admin generally do a good job when comments are flagged to give them credit.

I don't think there are many headteachers on the side of the government.

The NAHT and ASCL are well-supported and I think heads will be inclined to follow their advice.

@RigaBalsam I think you are saying the same thing as me - I was referring to an earlier poster who said it doesn’t exist.

Panickingpavlova · 02/01/2021 13:14

The last time I was able to to access my gp in person I had to go through a heavily triaged system.

I had to wait outside in the foyer before reception told me via intercom to go through. They were behind full desk to ceiling perspex screen and nervously waved me to the waiting room.

In the waiting room thankfully I was alone as no window was open.

Then when I got to the GP quite rightly she was head to foot in serious ppe, with a top grade filter mask that looked like a gas mask.

Panickingpavlova · 02/01/2021 13:15

"*heavily triaged before I was able to even get an app that is.

EmmanuelleMakro · 02/01/2021 13:17

@Bagamoyo1
Someone with a different opinion to you isn’t necessarily a crackpot.
This.
You wouldn’t think it would need saying but there is no attempt by sone posters to engage in debate, but to aim to bully and intimidate.
Is is odd that sone of these are apparently teachers. As a teacher my role is to deescalate situation - some of theses simply ratchet it up...presumably to scare away any dissenting opinions. Unedifying.

YouWantToDoWhatInAPyrexDish · 02/01/2021 13:17

I’m not a teacher and I fully support the action that is finally being taken on their behalf. And on the behalf of vulnerable parents/relatives.

Ideally I want my child in school - she thrives there - but it is currently not safe for anyone and that needs to be recognised. I feel sorry for the teachers who are being blamed for this.

Sorry I just used your reply as part of the quote.

PinkTonic · 02/01/2021 13:19

I’d like more information on the proposed prioritisation for vaccination. Who would they propose bumping given that school staff will already be vaccinated in line with personal risk like the rest of us.

BobBobBobbing · 02/01/2021 13:19

Parent of a y5, y7 and y9 here and fully support the section 44 approach and the desire to work to improve safety in schools. I've seen the things that have had to be put in place to make our offices covid secure and what is in place in schools wouldn't meet those standards. The government have been treating teachers with contempt.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 02/01/2021 13:20

As a parent I am really happy about this news.

I don't believe my childs need for face to face teaching should come before safety of staff, children and their families.

SecretBabychamDrinker · 02/01/2021 13:20

@Panickingpavlova

It's strange that even GPs are working differently. I had to go and see a GP and she was only wearing a normal surgical mask

As a teacher, your first role is to see that students are safe.

If a head's risk assessment says the school cannot open because it is too unsafe to do so, what else should they be doing?

For teachers, who understand the conditions in school, to not understand why a full opening is unsafe disgusts me.

It shows you don't give a fuck about the children you teach, and that is truly scary.

Panickingpavlova · 02/01/2021 13:23

NEU did a good message.

I like the explicit linking up of hospital care and putting teachers, pupils and the community of being at risk of getting sub standard treatment in an ambulance unable to get into hospital.

Makingnumber2 · 02/01/2021 13:23

well @EmmanuelleMakro I'm on holidays right now so teacher patience is still at the classroom door Wink

And I don't think I'm the only one sick to the back teeth of posters like @Bagamoyo1 jumping on these types of threads to tell all of us silly, lazy little teachers to stop being 'unreasonable' and 'ridiculous' and get back to work - as she herself sits in a lovely, safe and socially distanced GP office with full PPE, seeing a bare minimum of patients face to face.

What time should we expect the press conference tonight?

Makingnumber2 · 02/01/2021 13:26

5pm Sunday I think is more likely @Char2015 Grin if previous form is anything to go by...

But watch out for Peston’s Twitter feed from about 4.15. He normally announces things first.

I think a press conference is a bit much, surely it will be a twitter post at 3am in the morning. Grin

Good, I hope they get somewhere. Glad they have mentioned special schools that always seem to get forgotten.
