Is it safe to book a U.K. based easter break?

What's your thoughts on this? Yay or nay? Sick of seeing these four walls and need to get away. Do you think things will be open by then?

I wouldn't. Plan for the summer when there will be fewer restrictions and it will be safer.

RaspberryCoulis · 02/01/2021 10:41

We have one booked - was originally booked for April last year and cancelled. Self-catering, only our household going. Very low risk.

Will be gutted if it's cancelled, again.

Freddiefox · 02/01/2021 10:42

No

Coasterfan · 02/01/2021 10:43

I don’t think anyone knows! We have a break booked for Easter to wales, I booked it back in summer under the illusion we would be approaching normality by then, now I think it’s highly unlikely but I can transfer it or get a refund. If you book just make sure you can get your money back if it doesn’t go ahead, it will give you something to look forward to. I also have a week booked in devon in august again booked last august when things were looking up. I am confident about this one!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 02/01/2021 10:43

No nor do I think we should be doing unnecessary travel. I’d wait until closer to summer when case numbers, vaccinated numbers etc will be available and it may be a slightly better picture then.

FelicityPike · 02/01/2021 10:43

No.

Yamashita40 · 02/01/2021 10:44

I've got a couple of nights at a Premier Inn booked for Easter. They change the dates if it won't go ahead. Try to read the small print before you book. Some big companies have been really good.

EagleFlight · 02/01/2021 10:44

I’d be surprised but as long as you can postpone it until later in the year or 2022, then at least it won’t be wasted.

Slytherin · 02/01/2021 10:45

Yes we have a UK break booked mid April.

daisypond · 02/01/2021 10:45

No. You could book it as long as you can cancel, so be prepared for that. I wouldn’t, though.

PicsInRed · 02/01/2021 10:46

I would only book that last minute, as in a day or two before. Are you able to book leave at work then cancel or move the leave at short notice?

Otherwise, don't put down more of a deposit that you could happily afford to lose. April's likely to be grim.

TheABC · 02/01/2021 10:47

If you do, make sure you can move it or get insurance to cover last-minute Covid-19 closures.

In a fit of optimism, I booked a UK February break, last year. It's unlikely to go ahead now and like you, I am wrestling with deferral dates!

Jrobhatch29 · 02/01/2021 10:49

Me and DP have booked a spa weekend at easter. I am unsure whether it will go ahead

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/01/2021 10:50

We have Butlins booked (moved from last year so not a new booking) but can't see it happening the way things are going.

HeronLanyon · 02/01/2021 10:51

I’d be astonished - and also delighted for everybody - if Easter saw us able to travel about and stay away overnight for leisure reasons.
This will all come to an end or to a liveable with accommodation but Easter seems way too optimistic.

Chemenger · 02/01/2021 10:53

We have a cottage booked for April which was postponed from last Easter. I think there is a 50-50 chance of us going. I doubt very much that the extended family gathering we had planned will go ahead so we’ll be rattling round in a house that is much too big. It’s only an hours drive away.

Crumpetycrump · 02/01/2021 10:54

We have Centerparcs booked as it was can called on 14th December. If it can’t go ahead we will have to move it again.

MinesAPintOfTea · 02/01/2021 10:56

You run the risk of losing your money. If it’s only a small deposit, then that might be worth it

Roselilly36 · 02/01/2021 10:56

Fingers crossed for everyone that has bookings, it would be lovely to start having holidays again, provided you will get the money back if you can’t go due the pandemic, pay on cc would be my advice.

TallTowerFan · 02/01/2021 10:57

Who knows?

We normally go away at Easter but have nothing booked for this year.

CMOTDibbler · 02/01/2021 11:03

I booked a sports holiday in Lanzarote for easter (in April 2020), and I think the chance of it going ahead is 30% and dropping tbh

Slytherin · 02/01/2021 11:08

Can I ask why people think it won’t be looking better by Easter in terms of travel etc? I thought all of the vulnerable would be vaccinated by then.

LindaEllen · 02/01/2021 11:09

I wouldn't risk it to be honest. It might not even be allowed by then (and I'm personally not convinced by summer, either) and even if it is 'allowed', it doesn't mean it's sensible to travel to another area when you don't really need to.

If everyone just stayed put without thinking 'getting away' was the most important thing on the agenda for this year, we'd be out of this mess much quicker.

LindaEllen · 02/01/2021 11:10

@Slytherin

It will take a lot more than just 'the vulnerable' being vaccinated to get this thing truly under control though. We need a bigger herd immunity.
Twixmasdilema · 02/01/2021 11:10

Thinking about it for the same reasons as you. Would only book something fully refundable and/or very cheap but there's still the disappointment and speculatation of whether we will be going or not right up to the last minute to contend with! However, I'm sick of having life on hold and trying to be optimistic and look forward. Looking at cheap Sun £9 50 deals (which are apparently fully refundable too) or a couple of nights in a Premier Inn - they are doing very cheap, refundable rates atm.
