Is it safe to book a U.K. based easter break?

What's your thoughts on this? Yay or nay? Sick of seeing these four walls and need to get away. Do you think things will be open by then?

No way at this point, I'd aim for a couple of nights booked at the last minute if possible but nothing in advance. Given the way things are going, the situation isn't going to get much better by March. Summer, probably looking up. Sorry.

I have a UK break booked with my mum for May. We booked it after getting home from our last one (which I think was September) as it was discounted. It is fully refundable if cancelled due to Covid.

boomboom1234 · 02/01/2021 11:19

How can anyone answer this?!?

EventOfTheSeason · 02/01/2021 11:21

I wouldn't. We've got a caravan rebooked from last easter for this one and I don't think it will go ahead. We can rebook again and will because it was the only holiday we can/could afford and it's self contained.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/01/2021 11:23

If it's fully refundable I would book. I've got 4 UK holidays booked for this year, all refundable. In my case as they are all with the same agency I'll move the payment along to the next one if I can't go. The annual leave part doesn't bother me, I'd take it anyway.

We’ve had to rearrange a break we booked a year ago for this week (ie ending tomorrow) rebooked it for Easter but not convinced it will happen. I wouldn’t have booked if we hadn’t had to rearrange to avoid losing money on it though.

Cornettoninja · 02/01/2021 11:43

Personally I wouldn’t. Being honest with yourself, is the disappointment of having to cancel or reschedule going to out weigh the benefit of knowing you have a possible holiday booked?

Don’t set yourself up for disappointment you can’t absorb right now. If you are happy to book it in the knowledge there’s a good chance you won’t be able to go then go for it.

Splodgetastic · 02/01/2021 11:47

Probably not. I am not risking booking anything except very last minute.

Magic1231 · 02/01/2021 12:37

Hmmm its hard to say, I do think restrictions may be loosened by then, but how much is difficult to say. I think by summer even if its somewhat like last summer, you will be able to get away. Keeping my fingers crossed for all with something booked 🤞

Indecisive12 · 02/01/2021 12:41

No. We have one booked that a friend booked, no way is it going to happen but we’re having to rotate other plans (house work) around it in case it does go ahead.

CarlGrimesRightEyeball · 02/01/2021 12:45

We booked a break last night for mid March. It is refundable so we won't lose anything and we certainly don't want to miss out if everything is open by then, and every man and his dog tries to book.

Delatron · 02/01/2021 12:59

I think if it’s refundable and you don’t get your hopes up it’s worth doing. When everything opened up last July things got booked up very quickly.

It depends how quickly they get the vaccine rolled out. I went away abroad last July with no vaccine in the pipeline so with a few months of vaccinations I think May/ June will be looking a lot better. April is hard to call though.

BubblyBarbara · 02/01/2021 12:59

Booking it is safe if you do it from your home though whether or not you end up going is a different matter

That was my thinking.

Katie517 · 02/01/2021 16:00

If it’s refundable I would book it, we left booking our trip to Devon for last September very late and it was so hard to find accommodation as everyone was wanting UK breaks. Have just booked to go to Greece in June and am hopeful that will go ahead, we will be in a much better place this summer vs. last so I can see holidays happening.

MushMonster · 02/01/2021 16:02

I wouldn't OP.

Spidey66 · 02/01/2021 16:02

I would, but with the proviso it's easy to cancel and get my money back.

NatMoz · 02/01/2021 16:05

I've booked 3 nights camping at Easter.

Again who knows
