Are we being primed for all schools to close next week?

All I can see on Sky News and the BBC is that the “teaching unions are telling the government that all schools must be closed NOW”. Don’t usually see the media reporting this unless the government want to get us used to the idea.

It worries me whats happening with EYFS and childcare. I provide care for 0-4 in my home. Open plan setting so can't home educate my 9 year old as he needs support I can't provide. As a single parent I could face no income too.

Freekstar I’m with you there. Our school hasn’t had a case, but it’s because we are in an area which has hardly had any cases.
The cold and the tummy bug that went round in September though didn’t get stopped by all our measures, and every single bubble in the school had it. We all said then that we have no chance of stopping COVID doing the rounds, we are totally reliant on it not getting into school in the first place.

It should never be schools open or schools closed. It should be schools SAFE. Safe for our teachers and school staff. Safe for our children. The government have had since March to sourt this out.but they don’t care about the staff your children or yourself. If they did they would have had a mass investment programme in schools.teachers and school staff care for our children and want the best for them.Us as parents need to show the same support and respect for our teachers and school staff.that they show for our children and us. They do amazing job. Thank you teachears and staff you are amazing Flowers
Absolutely 100% this!

I was pretty sure they were going to close until I read Bojo is on Andrew Marr in the morning. Presumably to tell us all how safe schools are again Hmm.

Petition already signed by 85,000 people over the past two hours, Parents and others can also sign it, link here:

Just as a total random comment. My Mum, a headteacher, visited her Tory MP to make a point about the state of the toilets in her school. They hadn’t been refurbished since the school was built in the 1950s and were rank, and uncleanable. She asked him if he would like to use toilets that were that old and smelly. His response? “They’re only children.”
I don’t think I have ever seen mum so angry.
Now if he is typical of Tories, then you can see how we are where we are. Critical underfunding for decades, followed by useless rhetoric but still no money during a global crisis. But expected to achieve miracles by being completely impenetrable to a virus.

baby he sounds like an absolute arsehole... except there is a use for an arsehole. Sadly, nothing much about the Tories surprises me.

I can well believe this sadly.

My kids school is closed next week and my and my husband are meant to be working. Im glad they have each other for company. I don't really know what the answer is. Their school hasnt been too bad with cases but we live in an area with some of the highest numbers of positive cases
