Hospitalisation Rates in Children

ClimbDad · 01/01/2021 22:01

Mumsnet removed a thread discussing hospitalisation and risks to children following the LBC interview with the hospital matron.

The Department of Health publishes hospitalisation figures by age. Daily hospitalisation of children is currently averaging 40 to 50 admissions.

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/healthcare?areaType=nation&areaName=England

The admissions criteria is designed to exclude children who are in hospital for other reasons and catch Covid-19.

I don’t know what we consider an acceptable level of risk. We haven’t had that conversation as a country, but I feel sorry for the hundreds of families living through this horrific experience every week.

Since you've looked at the data,
what %of all hospitalised is the 40-50 today?

And what % of all hospitalised were under 18s back in April 2020?

I thought we were supposed to view the elderly as important as the very young, in which case, the age of the patient is irrelevant to how horrific, right?

Barbie222 · 01/01/2021 22:05

Welcome back ClimbDad, I believe two threads have been zapped now. Thanks for the link

ComDummings · 01/01/2021 22:05

It’s concerning that these threads are being censored. They keep vanishing.

Barbie222 · 01/01/2021 22:06

What kind of cold fish genuinely believes this? Our children?

TheKeatingFive · 01/01/2021 22:06

Oh look who it is. Colour me surprised. Hmm

DrizzleandDamp · 01/01/2021 22:07

Why are they being zapped?

CarolEffingBaskin · 01/01/2021 22:07

You do understand that 'admitted with' does not equal 'admitted for treatment for' right?

Pomegranatespompom · 01/01/2021 22:07

The numbers of paediatric patients in London are very low - according to a meeting I was in yesterday. None were ventilated.
Best not to scare people.

yeOldeTrout · 01/01/2021 22:08

total daily admissions of Covid-19 patients in England were 2,572 as of December 27...

so...

50/2572 = 1.9%

I accept that may be 100x higher than the % of children admitted with covid in April. Do we have those numbers for children & total in April? (admissions daily)

Oh dear, the other one just went poof.

DontBeShelfish · 01/01/2021 22:14

Another one gone. This one won't be long either, fair warning OP.

Bookmarking for proper facts and discussion again.

ofwarren · 01/01/2021 22:15

3 threads deleted on this topic. I'm furious we aren't allowed to discuss this

KeyboardWorriers · 01/01/2021 22:15

BBC and the telegraph are reporting on this so why are Mumsnet zapping the threads?

yeOldeTrout · 01/01/2021 22:16

@MushMonster: where are you getting 3100 kids with covid in hospital from (was on a lost thread).

50 admissions/day and none discharged would take 60 days to get to 3100 in hospital. So 3100 is not remotely likely. Most should stay in about 5 days, so 310 in hospital is plausible.

Out 21,787 beds occupied, 310 would be ~ 0.15%.

ComDummings · 01/01/2021 22:16

Someone is pulling strings to get these threads suppressed. Why though? It’s a news article, so why can’t it be discussed? It’s sinister.

Imiss2019 · 01/01/2021 22:16

What the hell is going on with these thread deletions??

Jrobhatch29 · 01/01/2021 22:17

I am pretty sure that 3100 is the total since the pandemic began?

KeyboardWorriers · 01/01/2021 22:17

Really disappointed in Mumsnet censoring this discussion

bananabob · 01/01/2021 22:17

Why aren't we allowed to discuss this? It's crazy to just delete all the threads.
