How were your side effects?

I had Covid 4 weeks ago and I’m having my vaccine next week (yay!). I’ve heard that everyone gets a sore arm which is to be expected, and some people are reporting headaches and fatigue. I’m just wondering if I am less likely to have side effects if I’ve already got some immunity?

I’ve only had a week or so of feeling normal, the headache lasted on and off for over 2 weeks so I’m hoping not to have more of them 🤞

Most of my colleagues have had theirs (I missed out but hoping to catch another release soon). Not one of them has had any side effects other than the sore arm. None of them have had Covid as far as we know. Hope that gives some reassurance.

FlyingFlamingo · 01/01/2021 15:55

Thanks. Whatever the side effects I’ll be skipping out of the hospital Grin

I have a family member who is a nurse who was refused her vaccine alongside her colleagues next week as she had Covid 3 weeks ago. Have you been advised if there needs to be a gap between them?
(Just wondering if she would have a case to fight for getting it)

SandysMam · 01/01/2021 15:58

Do you not feel quite immune already though if you have already had it?

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 01/01/2021 16:01

If you've had it already, why would you need the vaccine op? I was always under the impression that if you've had the/any disease that gave you better immunity, and that the vaccine was pointless? We see many posts on here where kids are refused access to schools abroad when they emmigrate (USA/Australia I think) because they haven't had chicken pox vaccine but have had the disease?

FlyingFlamingo · 01/01/2021 16:06

@Pasqual there needs to be a 4 week gap and I’m 4 weeks post positive test today - I couldn’t have it when I was first offered it (I’m actually a Covid immuniser) but I’m booked in next week.

I don’t feel sufficiently immune, no. We have no idea how long natural immunity to Covid lasts, the thinking is that vaccine acquired immunity will last longer. And there’s no way I’m risking getting it again. My whole team was sent the invite and those of us who have had it were the first ones on the phone!

I've had it (Nov) and will be having the vaccine too.

I'll do anything for a lollipop and a sticker Grin

BananaPop2020 · 01/01/2021 16:26

I have Covid right now and am happy to skip the vaccine

Jammygal · 01/01/2021 19:09

I’m the same as you @FlyingFlamingo tested positive on the 4th December and am booked in on Tuesday for jab . Am a bit worried it’s too close and have heard people who have already had Covid get a rougher ride with the vaccine Shock. When are you booked in ?

FlyingFlamingo · 01/01/2021 19:12

Oh god really??? I’m Tuesday as well Shock

Sorry didn’t mean to scare you - hopefully someone will be along soon with more knowledge than me 😂

Jammygal · 02/01/2021 17:53

I read something today stating 28 days between testing positive and vaccine 👍🏼🤞

JazzTheDog · 02/01/2021 17:56

I had Covid (reasonably mild) in October and the first dose vaccine 2 weeks ago. I felt like I did when I had Covid, aching all over, headache and fatigue, lasted about 4 days ish.

Plummer88 · 02/01/2021 19:09

Yes it’s 4 weeks after a positive test you can have it - it’s one of the questions they ask when you go in for it.

I had a slightly achey arm but nothing really. Far less side effects than the flu jab.

FlyingFlamingo · 05/01/2021 16:30

It’s only been a few hours but so far I just have a sore arm
🤞

@Jammygal how are you faring? My side effects have well and truly arrived this morning - headache, aches and a very sore arm!

Which one did you have? Confused

moominmomma1234 · 06/01/2021 10:52

My elderly mum had bad case of covid in oct. she had the Pfizer in dec and only had a sore arm.

SarahMused · 06/01/2021 10:57

My doctor daughter had Covid last year (tested positive) and has just had the jab because she is being redeployed to the Covid wards from tomorrow. She was told that they recommended 90 days between the two at her hospital. Incidentally she felt worse after the jab than when she had Covid. Sore arm, fatigue and fever. She is in her twenties so probably had a strong immune response I guess.

The Pfizer one, I’m feeling a lot better this afternoon and my arm is less sore.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. I'm technically employed by two trusts, and had a text from the GP asking to notify them of being frontline so it'll be a case of who gets there first with whichever one for me.

KipperTheFrog · 06/01/2021 17:18

Had covid in March, had the vaccine Christmas Eve. All I had from vaccine was a sore arm (worse than flu vaccine).
Hope your side effects are mild.

It's exactly the opposite. Vaccination actually gives you 100's to 1'000's times more immunity that catching the virus, because that is what it is designed to do. This from Chris Smith this morning on Jeremy Vine.
