Are school staff exempt from the rules?

FestiveFannyGallops · 01/01/2021 12:55

I live near some of my dc's' school staff and was a little surprised to see one had visited the other for a few hours today. They blocked my drive and I didn't know who it was til I saw them come out and get in the car. Are they exempt from the rules because of working together? On one hand it does seem crazy to keep those who work together apart in the holidays but at the same time how are people supposed to have faith that staff are doing all they can to stop the spread. They did the same in the summer when we were tier 3. We are now in tier 4 and rates have doubled in a week.

All teachers should be willing to have no social distancing or safety while in work because schools are magical bubbles and remember that the magic stops when outside of the protective, covid-secure environment.

2021hasalowbenchmarktobebetter · 01/01/2021 12:59

However, children who are in the same bubble at school should feel free to socialise together, in school and out, in holidays and termtime, because "they might as well" .

BiggerBoat1 · 01/01/2021 12:59

Not exempt from the rules, but schools are the only workplace where we are told to just get on with it - no social distancing and no PPE so it is not surprising if your neighbour thinks she may as well see one friend this week who she'll be mixing with next week anyway. Cut her some slack. Unless you work in a school you can't have any idea how stressful it is right now.

EmmanuelleMakro · 01/01/2021 13:00

They are not allowed exempt, but you can see how farcical the rules are. My colleague (both teachers) share a tiny windowless work room with another and obviously have a lot of masks free contact. Yet when she cycled past my house a few days a ‘da Roolz’ prevented me from asking her informs cup of tea only much larger house where we could have sat more than 2m apart (if we could have been arsed).
Do don’t blame your neighbours at all, other than blocking your drive which is blatantly unreasonable.

2021hasalowbenchmarktobebetter · 01/01/2021 13:00

And teachers must not be allowed support bubbles either, in case anyone points out that exemption. Why would they need support?

OverTheRainbow88 · 01/01/2021 13:01

Maybe they are in a relationship or each other’s support bubble?

Or one is on the verge of having a nervous breakdown

Mincepiehangover · 01/01/2021 13:01

Could they be each other's support bubbles OP?

Flipflops85 · 01/01/2021 13:02

No, they have the same rules.

They could have a support bubble, a child care bubble, or just be inconsiderate idiots like many others. Idiots exist in all professions.

RememberSelfCompassion · 01/01/2021 13:03

You can have a support bubble if you're single and would make sense to bubble with another teacher if you're teaching with them anyway.

Andbearsohmy · 01/01/2021 13:03

You are allowed to meet for work/education reasons.

Are you in an area where schools have been closed? I am and I need to meet with my year group to redo our planning as it needs to be adapted now but the school building is not open until Monday (but it needs to be done for Monday as that is when the children will be logged in)!

PurpleDaisies · 01/01/2021 13:03

Some people really love curtain twitching.

mnahmnah · 01/01/2021 13:03

At my school we are absolutely expected to keep social distance at all times. Work stations in the staff room are set apart, special desks bought especially. We sit in separate rooms for meetings, conducting them on Teams. So no, we should not be following the rules differently to others!

Sarcobaleno · 01/01/2021 13:06

Maybe they're meeting to discuss work given all their planning for going back will have been flipped on its head.

mrshoho · 01/01/2021 13:06

I know a teacher and a ta who formed a support bubble shock horror. Yes it is allowed.

Newyearsamecovid · 01/01/2021 13:07

I work in an office environment (no one wears Masks or is particularly socially distant) and do think it’s mad that I can sit with my colleagues for 10 hours a day with no windows open but when the clock hit 12 and we go to lunch, we couldn’t sit in the restaurant together for example.
But not, no one is exempt from the rules - no matter how stupid they seem.

2X4B523P · 01/01/2021 13:09

Same rules as everyone else, except when in the workplace. When working PPE not allowed and social distancing impossible. As mentioned there may be an existing support bubble in place.

Jrobhatch29 · 01/01/2021 13:11

Maybe they are year group partners and they were doing planning?

Barbie222 · 01/01/2021 13:11

Probably working, and the school building won't be open. Why do you need to know? It looks like you're shaming people who need to work. I'm working today and I might drop things round to my colleague.

OloBo · 01/01/2021 13:11

I’d assume they were doing some form of work and leave them to it. They could legitimately be doing so and you’ll never know either way, so why get worked up over it.

I don’t think it’s mad that you’re not allowed to socialise with colleagues/classmates though. Any extra time together increases the risk, so we limit time together to what is essential to keep education and business going in order to keep the risk to a minimum. I can’t understand why people are still struggling with that concept.

humtar · 01/01/2021 13:13

A few of my single teaching colleagues have formed support bubbles, especially since Christmas when they were not able to go to visit their families.

FestiveFannyGallops · 01/01/2021 13:14

Not support bubble no as both married with grown up kids. It annoys me because I'm
CEV and expected to send dc week in to an environment that has no distancing at all. They even have extended bubbles with other years ffs. The staff are not teachers.

PurpleDaisies I wasn't curtain twitching, they were across my drive and when I let the cat in I saw them come out get into the car. Being CEV though I do like to gaze out of the window and see something of the world passing by seeing as engaging with the world is very limited for me.

Maybe one is from a single adult household and is a support bubble?

But I don't blame them if not. Let's face it. 2 households mixing at social distance when your mixing with 30 from Monday 🤷‍♀️

RubyViolet · 01/01/2021 13:15

Keep watching OP !!! If you see them again call the Police.
Give a Teacher an inch and they’ll take a mile !!
😂😂😂

I think you're just looking for a reason to have a go.

That’s literally the exception I was going to point out and ask!

Really you can’t think of a reason a teacher might need support?

Really?

Well your allowed a bubble if you live alone - are all teachers in relationships in your world?

Or you have a child under 1? Again are teachers not allowed to be parents in your world?!?!

Or are single parents and need a bubble for child care - see the question above or are teachers only allowed to have children if they are married and stay married?!?! No matter what the damage might be?!

And I believe mental health might cause some vunrablity in which case they could have a support bubble for that and I’d like to see the poor mental health rate in teachers because I suspect it is probably quite high!
