Are school staff exempt from the rules?

FestiveFannyGallops · 01/01/2021 12:55

I live near some of my dc's' school staff and was a little surprised to see one had visited the other for a few hours today. They blocked my drive and I didn't know who it was til I saw them come out and get in the car. Are they exempt from the rules because of working together? On one hand it does seem crazy to keep those who work together apart in the holidays but at the same time how are people supposed to have faith that staff are doing all they can to stop the spread. They did the same in the summer when we were tier 3. We are now in tier 4 and rates have doubled in a week.

I repeat, they aren't teaching staff, but don't let that stop you from thinking I'm bashing teachers.

This is why teachers should never live close to their school.

OverTheRainbow88 · 01/01/2021 13:20

@noblegiraffe

This is why teachers should never live close to their school.

I learnt that after a parent knocked on my door on a weekend to stay they had grounded their kid who had then decided to go out their bedroom window.

@RizzleDrizzle

Was my sarcasm too subtle?

Itisasecret · 01/01/2021 13:22

This didn’t go the way you wanted did it? It’s all the fault of teachers Covid is running exponentially through schools, school age children and their families. They are all breaking the roolz.

I see you.

KindKylie · 01/01/2021 13:22

They could well be spending their precious free time planning how on earth they going to make it all work come Monday...

2 people who are expected to work together with no PPE or SD every day next week, meeting in advance but potentially maintaining good SD while they do so, is not what is driving the transmission of this virus.

This is wasted energy for you OP.

Panickingpavlova · 01/01/2021 13:22

I don't understand the logic here.. How do you know they are not related and each each person's bubble!

Secondly, those two teachers will be linking up each house hold every day from next week, with no masks or sd allowed, along with... 30 students, catering staff etc.

So maybe if they are breaking tech rules, actually in the logistics of catching the virus they know the reality of this fudge and what will happen next eek.

That's ok then.

You are attempting to bash school staff though. 2/10

@FestiveFannyGallops

Not support bubble no as both married with grown up kids. It annoys me because I'm CEV and expected to send dc week in to an environment that has no distancing at all. They even have extended bubbles with other years ffs. The staff are not teachers.

PurpleDaisies I wasn't curtain twitching, they were across my drive and when I let the cat in I saw them come out get into the car. Being CEV though I do like to gaze out of the window and see something of the world passing by seeing as engaging with the world is very limited for me.

What a load of rubbish, you're just being nosy and stirring things up. Who do you think you should complain to that your vulnerable family still has to attend school? Hint: it isn't your child's teacher, nor even your school. This is the problem with not speaking up to the government and telling them they need to get sorted. If we had a few less curtain twitchers and daily Mail sad face types, and a few more people who actually wanted something to change and made the right sort of noises about it, we wouldn't all be in this shot situation now.
FestiveFannyGallops · 01/01/2021 13:28

@Itisasecret no, it went exactly the way I thought as so many on here think that the rules don't apply to them and the vulnerable can just suck it up and stay inside.

Maybe they are learning how to administer lateral flow tests!

OldBean2 · 01/01/2021 13:30

Even if they are not teaching staff, it would not be unusual for them to get together to do planning, now this could be anything from lesson planning for support staff to working on the budget, as our SBM and Office Manager are doing to say nothing of running the safeguarding checks on staff.

After the last few day and emails coming out from the DfE to HTs at 18:10 last night which needs to be actioned, I really wonder that you are surprised that they are having to meet up. However, I get the feeling that whatever people on this thread say, you will not be happy until someone tells you to complain to the school... which you most definitely should not. If you are pissed because they parked across your drive, then take it up with them directly.

myhobbyisouting · 01/01/2021 13:30

"but schools are the only workplace where we are told to just get on with it - no social distancing and no PPE"

No, they aren't.

No, they aren't.

I apoligise then. What other workplaces are you thinking of where this is true?
FestiveFannyGallops · 01/01/2021 13:33

I have no intention of complaining to the school. I think the entire situation is crazy with staff and schools and the lack of protection school staff and pupils have. The teaching staff have been fantastic this last year. I just wish there was consistency across society but then that's true of so many things.

School staff are not exempt for the rules unless of course they are at school, covid is not of school age . In school they can safely mix with hundreds of other people with no social distancing and no PPA is required .

As someone who works in a school I am a tad annoyed that I must abide by the rules until 8am on Monday. From 8am Monday I am expected to ignore all govt guidance that I keep to outside work and just get on with it.

Feministicon · 01/01/2021 13:38

Definitely call the police 🙄

myhobbyisouting · 01/01/2021 13:38

@BiggerBoat1 don't worry. They are called the forgotten service for a reason.

Dangerous without covid...indescribable with.

Agoodbriskwalk · 01/01/2021 13:39

Your OP is really a lie as you know FULL WELL that there’s no exemption, you just wanted to ask your pretend question to vilify school staff.

It’s not very nice behaviour OP. And in two days there will be hundreds of kids mixing with no social distancing so the behaviour of the relatively small number of staff will be the least of your (and their) worries.

If you REALLY care about the lack of safety in schools then contact the people responsible. Hint: it’s not the staff.

Tillsforthrills · 01/01/2021 13:45

They’ll need to support each other now more than ever, the government has thrown them to the wolves.

myhobbyisouting · 01/01/2021 13:46

"Your OP is really a lie as you know FULL WELL that there’s no exemption, you just wanted to ask your pretend question to vilify school staff."

Yeah, that's so obvious here.

CheltenhamLady · 01/01/2021 13:51

A spot of (almost)covert school employee bashing OP. Great start to the NY.

Itsnotlikethiswithotherpeople · 01/01/2021 13:51

To be fair given the huge changes they have had to implement, its possible they were actually working making plans for next week.

Sarcobaleno · 01/01/2021 14:22

You have absolutely no idea what they are meeting for. The staff at my school are working over the holidays, and that includes non-teaching staff. Life is hard enough without everyone assuming the worst all the time.
