Did you or your dp have covid or were you just required to self-isolate?

If your dd has been isolating for 14 days with your and your dp, she must have caught it from one of you I guess?

TheoriginalLEM · 01/01/2021 00:40

Weve both had covid i finished iso on monday. Dp yesterday. Thought maybe she would have been asymptomatic.- the guidance says 10 days i think

This has happened to us too. Dh and I had covid, isolation period ended and then dd got symptoms. She's tested positive. Obviously if you have a positive case one should isolate, but we've given it to her ....
I asked test and trace and the man had to spend 10 minutes finding out - he seemed flummoxed but surely this is common. He said for us to get re-tested. If we were negative and had no symptoms we were OK to go out. Was ok with this theory then I read otherwise on Google. So equally, I too am confused.

Whiskas1Kittens · 01/01/2021 00:50

Adding to the confusion I'm a teacher, so don't really want to do the wrong thing, working with 30 plus kids and several TAs.

Chabbylis · 01/01/2021 00:51

Following with interest. Could be a vicious cycle! Hope you all get better soon op.

Whatam · 01/01/2021 00:53

I think if you have symptoms then you have to continue isolating.

TheoriginalLEM · 01/01/2021 00:55

So why is isolation period ten days when my isolation started on 18th december what are we now ? Day 13 dd could have been going out seeing her friends for 3 days infecting people. She hasnt but could have

We had this with my siblings family. They were told that unless they showed new symptoms they wouldn’t need to isolate again as had clearly passed it on.

TheoriginalLEM · 01/01/2021 00:57

Whatam only certain symptoms my employer insisted on me going back after ten days despite feeling unwell as i didnt have temperature. Hmm its all so vague.

Yes, in a large family you could be isolating for a long time - weeks - if one after another child caught it gradually.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2021 00:59

The thing is that it used to be 14 days isolation and if she got symptoms within the 14 days you didn't need to restart isolation. Then they changed it to 10 days and changed all the parameters. I would think that if its within 14 days of the first symptoms and she hasn't been out then it was caught from your household so you don't need to restart isolation.

TheoriginalLEM · 01/01/2021 01:00

@ImAncient im.hoping thats the case as my mum died on 18th december and i need to organize things and havent been able to due to being unwell

No, your isolation ends after 10 days if you are well (coughs and loss of taste/smell can linger even after you feel better).

If another household member starts symptoms their isolation restarts but the rest of the household (recovered or never had symptoms) doesn't.

StacySoloman · 01/01/2021 01:03

This makes it clearer

Out of isolation period but dd showing symptoms
ImAncient · 01/01/2021 01:04

I’m Sorry for your loss Flowers

dementedpixie · 01/01/2021 01:08

The issue is that the child has started symptoms outwith the original 10 day isolation which would trigger isolation again BUT it used to be 14 days but was cut for compliance reasons so I wouldn't restart isolation anyway

TheoriginalLEM · 01/01/2021 01:32

Demented pixie yes that is exactly the point im making. Before it was 7 days with symptoms but 14 days without. Now its ten days for both and clearly this is not correct as dd is day 14 so could have been seeing people for 4 days. Thankfully she hasnt as her friend's mum is clinically vulnerable (although we wouldn't have allowed contact due to that reason just to be sure - legally we could have).

Poor kid has had an awful Christmas her nan died we got sick, she got toothache and her period (affects her badly), she finished her mocks just before Christmas and i was desperate for her to have at least some bloody respite. Ffs

I’ve had Covid over Christmas, isolation for me supposed to finish today. DD tested positive so track & trace told me I now need to isolate for 10 days from onset of her symptoms taking me to next Wednesday. I queried this with them but they said I had to isolate and not to risk it. I think they are wrong as feeling much better. Anyone had other advice?

ILovesPeanuts · 01/01/2021 01:56

My DD 13 had Covid in November but was told by Track & Trace very clearly that if one us or another close contact inc at school got it after the isolation period she'd still have to isolate. I wish they knew more about how long one might be immune for!

Bramblespoint · 01/01/2021 02:09

When isolation was 14 days you definitely had to restart isolation if someone started symptoms after the isolation period...but now it's changed to 10 days I'm not sure

Bramblespoint · 01/01/2021 02:15

This I think says you need to re isolate

Out of isolation period but dd showing symptoms
Thismustbelove · 01/01/2021 03:35

I work in a medical area and our guideline in covid is if any person in the household tests positive, then all members of the household must isolate for 14 days regardless of whether they have a negative test.

rose69 · 01/01/2021 08:26

I'm sorry for the loss of you mum. As I understand it- the whole household isolates for 10 days from the first symptoms or test. Isolation then ends for family members who have not developed symptoms/had a positive test in this time. If someone has they isolate for 10 days.
If someone with positive diagnosis has the following active symptoms at end of 10 days they should isolate for a further 10: sickness, fever, diarrioah or active cold. (Other household members are free to go) A cough or loss of taste may continue for a while but is not an active symptom and therefore isolation ends.
If anyone in household starts symptoms after isolation has ended then the whole family isolates again
